Still cheap if you based on that perspective. Well some COE can cost 2-3 times of the vehicle and people are still buying??

Lets put that perspective in certain more developed countries dealing with bigger problems.

We're still getting screwed by the gahmen. Period. Bike look cheap compared to car bla bla bla you already owned the car if it was any other country. We're already paying at least double for the same thing elsewhere, not to mention the interest, ERP etc.

cheap ur head, do u know who can only afford small bikes?

Like I mentioned based on that car's COE perspective, well if you cant, that's nothing I could help.

Like me I can only afford 2nd hand bikes. Many are richer cos most wanted new bike and a few k more cannot repair small bike and you have rush to bid for ex COE?

I am sorry I cannot apprehend this logic.

To me less than 1.5k is a fair price. If you wanted it at this point of time, then too bad.

Maybe you define how small is small? In term of weight,cc or power?

I myself have a small bike, 161kg dry weight and small dimension. Many >200cc scooters are bigger than me.

Even with $1 COE we are already paying double for car with additional tax. The current system did well to control vehicle population, period.

We are screwed by dealers, if only they dont push package it in form of longer and longer installments. Not difficult to see ads up 7 years loan for bike in the forum.

IIRC, someone said if you earn 4k and have 2k lifestyle you got no problem.

If you earn 2k and have a 4k lifestyle, then you should do something about it.

I LOL with their reaction... But I LOL at myself too... Wonder if Grand Prix racer would react similarly when we ask them to guess the price of a R1, G1, R12GS, etc

How to maintain a 2k lifestyle when prices kept going up? Some people would not want to get a so called 2nd hand bike due to the wear and tear and problems that come with it. You know how the cycle goes. Person A buys a brand new bike and a few years later the bike got problems. Sent for repair and repair but problems kept coming. Then that said person will sell it off to shop and get another brand new bike. Person b buys the bike. Only to face the same problems and spend on repairs. Before COE ends sells it off to shop. Shop renewed COE for that bike and sells it off to person C. And you know how these salespersons sweet talk into getting your signature on those papers and later on sells you a problematic bike. The cycle continues over and over again. Hence why some people would rather not go through all that headache and just get a brand new bike. But then again what do I know? I have yet to own so many bikes to list it as a signature.

Do you think they implement COE and ERP long times ago saying it will ease road congestion really useful and effective?

-If No, they had use a broken system for so many years just to suck our money! No help at all..

-If Yes, Then why COE so high? Then why here jam there jam even public transport also jam like siao!

The main cause of it which they always think is right is in their white paper. The golden (((6.9M)))....................

Maybe you can tell us what do you think? I think is a fairly effective system.

Or you rather have a system that everyone can afford but the moment you drive out of the car park, it starts to jam?

The white are very money face, yet told us not to be money face when looking for job. F... them..

My friends salary from 5k+ drop to 2k+ because others FT is cheaper, more hardworking than him.

Then can our white PxP replace by FT too, so we can get cheaper and more hardworking white?

10 years ago till now salary either still the same or dropping for us.

But everything goes up to be world class idiot (We become the big idiot), thanks to our white elite.. Really very thankful,, Puiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

Agreed i was in a same situation 5 years ago with PRC around me getting cheaper and working longer I am afraid. During that time I was thinking what can I do to improve the situation?

By voting out the white? Which I did vote for WP.

By whining and trolling the internet?

Well, what I did was is to told myself be better than them, simple?

I also told myself I need to double my salary in 5 years time. Now I am very near to the mark not there yet but very close.

Out of my 19 bikes none one of them is more than 10k and except the first 1 all of them is paid in cold hard cash, I used those money which many of you used for payment for new bike to study and improve. Out of 19 bikes I got 2 lemons and sold them within 3 months.

FYI, I failed my O level and I got 2 ITE cert, 2 diploma and a degree coming soon and I spend time to learn and improve my own field of profession when I had a mid career change 2 years ago, well my life did gets better. Did a bit of investment as well. Well, when transport price goes up I am happy, means more dividend for me. I sometimes like to move against the odds.

Rather than to wait for things happen, I rather make things happen

COE is now a means to generate revenue. The idea of stopping congestion using it is already over. They know, we know, everybody knows.

I'm now thinking what if in the COE game we take out the "10 years duration" and make it life long, like how our driving licenses changed from collecting annually to a one-time payment. What do you think?

Posted
This i agree too. :thumb:

The myth of stratifying the bike COE to 3 classes is busted long ago.

Since COE is driven by a supply/ demand model, it will only benefit the Class 2 riders since the demand is not so high as compared to 2B. Again, this is based on the assumption that the total quota released for bikes (after the division) is equivalent on all classes.

It will not be as simple as just splitting the classes of COE. We will just end up with the same situation. The demand is driven up by the artificial constriction of supply (of COE) by the authorities. Even if the splitting occurs, the same situation will happen if the 2B quotas are numbered less or equal to the 2A and 2 quotas.

I may sound xenophobic. But why do we allow so much foreign plate bikes to be in Singapore? The VEP they pay can hardly match up to our COE, and they are taking up the space on the road which we pay heavily for. Wanna ride a bike in Singapore? Sure, just buy a Singapore plate bike or pay the same in VEP. Malaysia can do the same to us for all I care. I'll respect them even more since they are genuinely protecting their citizens from having to suffer the inflation brought about by trans-border spending.

Latest COE Results for FEBRUARY 2015 2nd Open Bidding Exercise for Motocycle: $5,800.00 :((((

From the above vote you can presume, maybe most are having 2b bikes or those who wish to renew their COE for their present bike don't wish to see the COE keep rising!

My friend when COE price goes up, the 2nd hand re sale bike price will eventually goes up together! For those who need it will suffer! By then 1.5K you can't event buy a second hand bike unless the condition is very bad that you have to pay event more for repaired or replacement of parts!

COE has surge so... HIGH is an unnecessary cost burden for the lower income bikers and also for those new bikers! Debits, High Debits and Highest Debits for those who take longer loan!

( Your salary can sub stain the loan now but how about later?)

I saw Dayo Wong talk show (黃子華《洗燥》棟篤笑2012), he said: how to save money and is money enough, if now the cost of living is so high and your salary not competitive! US so a big country is in debits and many others as well, worst is countries can goes bankrupt! Can anyone tell how much money does these countries owe the debits!

I don't want to be a slavery to Debits, that you have to work day and night paying Debit, Debits, DEBITss!

I think it is great that you take things into your own hands and work hard to better yourself. However, the COE has increased by approximately 4 times (400%) in the last 2 years. Did your income grow by 4 times in the last 2 years? No, right?

It is a fact that expenses in Singapore is rising way faster than the real rise in income (ie, income minus inflation), and far faster than what a person can keep pace with using his own efforts. Therein lies the problem: bettering yourself is only part of the equation. It should be something that is done anyway, regardless of the COE, because everyone should try to improve one's situation in life. But it isn't enough to compensate for the meteoric increase in expenses like the crazy COE prices.

Why would it start to jam, if the number of COEs is fixed and remains the same regardless of price? As I explained in another post, whether the COE is $1 or $100000, the vehicle population remains the same since the number of COEs is determined beforehand by the gov. It does not change with the cost of the COEs.

So you agreed to this system? Like I mention in earlier post, the surge of COE is due to dealers rather than self bidders.

I myself did bid a few times, and you will notice, during the last hour of bidding exercise, the price will start to surge,my point in posting in this thread to omit COS in the overall package when you buy a bike and self bid.

I agree that there should be a COE system. I just disagree with how it is implemented today, with more emphasis on revenue generation than controlling traffic population at a reasonable cost.
