Hi everyone. Need opinions, advice and suggestions from all the gurus n fellow riders here. Someone wants to swap their Kawa Krr150 for my Yamaha X1-r. Is it a good swap? How is the maintenance, reliability and consumption of the Krr vs the X1-r? Would appreciate all the advice I can get from fellow riders here as im a noob in the biking world. Thank u very much in advance.

KRR more power. But more expensive maintenance, more expensive insurance and need 2T. Most KRR's also quite old so must bear that in mind.

It's not that KRR is unreliable. It's just that the maintenance sometimes a little expensive compared to X1-R cos its old. Troublesome cos need to top up 2T also. How old is the bike? And how old is yours?

Thank u for replying zalk. So u think its not an advisable trade? Does krr breakdown/fail/spoil often or easily?

hi TS,

first of all, have you ask yourself if u like kr, a sportsbike in the first place. If no, then we are out of here.

an advise from a 2-stroker to a 4, what i can say is, its only an addidtional 2T which is essential.

luck plays a part as well when dealing with 2nd hand bike. you just need to be more hardworking to check it every now and then.

hose may be loose if there is any leakage, etc..

furthermore its just another cls 2b, 1 plug, 1 bottle EO. How 'more' expensive is that?

Ill be technical, bear with me.

2 strokes vs 4 strokes

1) Good quality EO makes little difference but good quality 2T does.

2) They have no valves so there's no need to do valve clearences nor worry about anything valve related like timing chain, cam timing and all that crap

3) They wear their rings faster than 4 strokes due to ports.

4) At similar displacement they produce close to twice the power the 4 stroke produces for example KRR can keep up with an S4 while the X1-R wait long long.

5) 2 strokes drink more petrol than 4 strokes because they aren't as efficient, that being said its not actually that bad, KRR being around 20+ km/l with X1-R being 40+ km/l

6) Overhauling a 2 stroke of similar built for example a single cylinder 2 stroke, is cheaper than a 4 stroke for reasons above, no valves, no camshafts, no cam chain, no cam chain guides.

7) 4 stroke don't need 2T which can be a hassle in long hauls and every day use. Imagine touring with a 2 stroke is a bother is there is no 2T, actually can be downright dangerous.

KRR specific, they have power valves and these tend to be point of failures. Imo get an RXZ.
