Or just ride fast enough and try and avoid idling at traffic lights....hehehhe

Having said that, i wear a balaclava under my helmets, strange as it sounds, it actually feels cooler....maybe cos it absorbs the sweat

+1 to balaclava. Keep the helmet fresh. I have two pieces that I alternate in wearing them and quick wash the spare.

tried to search but cannot find similar thread

read some thread about flip up and noticed that quite many people use flip up but did not actually flip it up

so i was wondering buying a full face is it better?

better looking and better protection?

Flip up is for convenient only when in neighbourhood area, slow traffic, talking to friends & smoke (illegal) haha

WTS 2012 Yamaha FZ 16 ST red color version.

Interested party pls PM me. Good prices.

1st pair of i bought was Helmet HJC CL-ST, at that price, i would say it's worth it. Of course can't expect great ventilation, nice sound proof, but yea, it does it's job relatively well. agree with Cellardoor (pardon if spelt wrongly) it does fog quite bad, due to not so good ventilation, but can reduce by opening visor a lil bit.

as i am a smoker and wearing specs, plus a period of time where i often go to jb, i eventually finds that a flip up is a good idea, so i got a Caberg Duke. personal feels, sound proofing is definitely worse than CL-ST, viewing angle/field of vision reduced (i have to turn more/tilt more in order to see, again compared to CL-ST).

But it serves what i wanted, i'm still using it whenever i goes to jb short trip.

As riders should know, sg customs is compulsory to remove helmet, with a full face i have no choice but to do the ritual. (take out spec, remove helmet, put on spec, take out spec, wear helmet, put on spec, fasten helmet) but with flip up, it can be removed/worn without removing my specs. and m'sia custom sometimes requires to see your face but ok with helmet on, thus just flip it up!

then comes a day where my fren and i were bored, we went to motorworld, he saw a HJC rpha max lorenco replica and was mesmerised by it, he bought it. and i took a liking to another Rpha Max. cost me about $400. and i'm quite sure my next helmet will still be a Rpha max for regular local/tour use.

good sound proofing, cheap, good field of vision, relatively light weight compared to previous, great ventilation (i literally feel the air moving into the helmet from the top vents).

Conclusion: flip up for the convenience, anything else, i would go for a relatively good full face.

Off-topic: if i could afford, i would like to try top brand/priced full face like shoei/arai, but though my head is important, i still cant bear to part with that kinda $$ for them.

Actually, light and heavy full-face helmets don't differ that much (maybe 200grams). A entry-level full-face helmet weighs in around 1.6kg. At first, you'll find it heavy if you are used to open faced helmets, but after wearing a few times, you will get used to it and won't even notice the weight. At least that's my experience.

And like many people, after being used to full face helmets, I will never wear open face again. I feel much more secure knowing I'm not going to bash my jaw open in an accident.

As for Fullface vs flipup, there is no contest as to which is safer. The only question is are you willing to trade the full-time safety of a fullface for the occasional convenience of a flip up? Isn't safety the PRIMARY reason for wearing helmet in the first place? Know your priorities, and the choice is obvious.

Full face is always better. But don't buy cheap cos they are damn heavy

for me I always wear a flip up....why?....my first accident I had a concussion after sliding half my face on the tarmac and in the accident I lost memory of what happen as I believe the impact on my face caused the temporary memory loss and had concussion.

my second accident I was wearing a flip up on the way to melaka and the rear tire had blow out...and lost control but with the flip up even though my jaw hit hard against the helmet.....after finished rolling...i had the clear presence of mind to push my bike quickly off the road before two big trailers rolled by fast side by side....

my 3rd accident was when a car suddenly cut into my lane on a wet day..in the ensuring rolling and tumbling.....I had the presence of mine to plan what to do when i stop rolling on the floor...later i saw my flip up had gashes on the jaw area....but the moral of the story it helps minimize concussion especially on the jaw if you are wearing a full face or flip up....

of coz full faced helmet is definitely more solid since its one piece...but so far all the flip ups I had even though they cost less 200....never had the jaw mechanism break open ...in fact they help minimize the concussion on my jaw...and keep my face intact and handsome always...haha .the flip ups involved are nolan 100 and mfizz brand.....oh yes of coz to keep the jaw mechanism down n locked when ur riding coz it will be useless if u have an accident with the jaw guard flipped up....

just my 5 cent comments...

I ride at 70km/hr only...please please dont blow2 at me or overtake me dangerously....wait i change into Incredible Hulk n dont know why my little baby bike will always be ahead of u if u do that

I am kinda incline to get a flip up too as i travel long distance to work. still looking to fork out a budget for shoei neotec.

Most of the time I use a full face helmet. It's usually lighter and more comfortable. My flip up helmet is for very short rides in the neighborhood, petrol pumping and spare helmet for occasional pillion. Got a cheap open face as back up helmet but rarely use it. Safety first!

well at least i can say those 3 accidents happen 6 to 8 years in between in each accident....u can say those are damn ass stupid falls and I will agree with you but falls which I learn from the hard way because of hastiness and complacency but luckily no lasting injuries like broken bones or broken body....

Im unable to stop riding coz its in the blood and it gives u a freedom and speed thrill not even a car can give ...of coz im an occasional speed corner junkie but nothing beats the feeling that you can give a super car a run for their money for a fraction of the car's price...

Also even after how many decades you had been riding....the road or others always teaches u something new and I feel humbled to able to stay alive and learn again from other people's mistakes and my mistakes

I ride at 70km/hr only...please please dont blow2 at me or overtake me dangerously....wait i change into Incredible Hulk n dont know why my little baby bike will always be ahead of u if u do that

Hi anyone interested to get the HJC IS Max2 flip up helmet? I got the discount voucher $360 for 2 helmets from Motoworld. I only need 1.

Anyone using this helmet currently and is it good?

Please PM me if you wish to get 1 too.

for me, i use flip up because of 1 reason,

it's easier to slip into the helmet, i have extreme difficulty in slotting in and out of ff helmet such that it really makes riding a hassle

Same here. My helmets still smell as fresh as the day I bought them.

I am not a smoker but still prefer flip up. Much more practical in town. Agree that full face MIGHT give better protection during accident but it is really depend on how to fall, speed etc. Riding defensively would anyway beat any argument about best safest helmet.

Which shops have a good selection of flip ups? I use Nolan for last few years and want to replace it - I like flip mechanism and excellent ventilation yet I did not have a chance to compare other brands.

Any other models to recommend, especially if you had a chance to compare different brands? Cost is not an issue for such important thing.

Thanks lot.

I'm a newbie driver. Started with an HJC RPHA ST full face for protection. Realise SG weather really hot and I'm more sweaty than normal. After much research and shopping, bought a Shoei Neotec and never looked back. Was comparing with HJC RPHA Max, but the RPHA Max build quality is not as good as Shoei. Neotec's venting is really really good too. Essential for our knn weather.

Not to be preachy but I also hope to see more riders wearing riding jackets and proper footwear. Too many of us are taking chances with t-shirts and slippers.

I'll rather buy a slightly cheaper helmet and jacket rather than spending all on 1 expensive helmet. Ride safe everyone!
