Generally, the bulk of their intake is from NTU. Girls will be around 22 years old and guys will be around 24-25 years old. So likely they are looking at this age group when they recruit.

yup.

my jc ex-classmate already graduating/graduated and have secured a place at big4.

i thought she very zai or something so fast secure a place, but it seems she said its a common thing.

Indeed, quite common. Some may even get 2-3 offers and get to choose where they want to go.

But of course, get the degree and landing a job in one of the Big 4 is only the beginning of a long struggle :D

Guess which word had this meaning.

2. A set of principles permitting greater opportunity or liberty to one than to another, especially the granting of greater sexual freedom to men than to women.

3. A set of principles establishing different provisions for one group than another; also, specifically, allowing men more sexual freedom than women.

The Big 4 international accounting firms ... way ahead of the rest in terms of their sizes. They are namely: PricewaterhouseCoopers, Ernst & Young, Deloitte & Touche, KPMG.

Used to be Big 8 ... but mergers over the years have reduced the numbers to 4 ... hopefully, it won't go down any further

An accountant (MrBean) had actually advised me to take on CAT from either FTC, FTMS or SAA. I'm enrolling for this July intake SAA.

Whole course would be around $2600 with da 25% discount if u'r paying for at least 3 papers. Whole course would last for abt 1 year to 1.5 years. The paper is recognised and same level as gov dip cert. Dates, mon, Tue, thurs, fri afternoon and evening classes. After which can proceed to ACCA which is equivalent to Degree cert. (which is not easy)

btw, CAT dip and ACCA part 1 completion, are they the same when applying for job?

i know CAT learn a whole lot more on tax and stuffs, so i'm wondering.

nov04 - oct05: TA200

dec05 - feb07: CB400SF4V3

My personal opinion ... completion of CAT will have less complications during the recruitment process.

Completion of ACCA stage 1 will raise other questions eg. are you going to continue to take stages 2 and 3 (meaning you could be attending classes after work and therefore unable to do OT ... or you could be overqualified for the job in 2-3 years time, resign and the company has to recruit again).

If you do not intend to take stages 2 and 3, potential employers may again question why, is it a reflection of a lack of will power on your part?

Of course, different companies may interpret your continual education differently, some view it negatively, some positively. Having completed CAT, you avoid such complications during the recruitment process. Just my two cents

I was from NUS Engineering before deciding to move into Accountancy instead ... with zero accounting experience like yourself ... took all the 14 ACCA papers (at that time) ... start and learn everything from scratch ... you can still pick up a good foundation in the fundamentals (eg double entry) along the way if you work hard, dun worry :cheer:

But dun see the point of doing 2 accountancy courses concurrently ... just focus on one that can qualify you for the "CPA Singapore" status and apply for membership after obtaining the paper qualifications and working experience :goodluck:

mr.bean. u are my hero.

i was motivated to go thru the RMIT Bsc biz(acc) - there isnt a RMIT Acc course -

but i see my work ppl here mostly go thru the ACCA route as its more recognised

i learnt from them that even if u clear the RMIT papers in 2 years, still need to go thru CPA australia conversion and things that u learn there is really different and cannot be applied locally.

a lot of MCQ which is dangerous.. for eg. they ask abt super annuition. at first u would be thinking WTF is that. study more its actually similar to the CPF system here.

upon completion of the CPA conversion then u are a quali CPA australia. still need to convert back to CPA SG.

might as well go thru ACCA from the start.

ps: the last 3 papers are really a b1tch. many of my frens gave up.

the only ones that i know who cleared is mr bean and another of my colleague who took one mth unpaid leave just to study for the last 3 papers.

nevertheless, paper qualifications are useless if u cannot work aka. buey cho kang.

therefore, having a good and positive work attitude is equally important.

trying to learn that myself. need to change some negative attitude from poly days

Yes, its tough ... but that is also precisely the reason why the ACCA qualification is recognised by the industry :thumb:

It will help to have guidance from good lecturers ... they can share with you their work experiences and connect these to theories, which would be difficult to comprehend otherwise. And also exam techniques :D

End of the day, don't worry about failing the exams ... you will get a chance to re-take just 6 months later ... unlike the World Cup which only comes around once in 4 years :cheeky:
