Hey mates. I'm currently looking to get a 2nd hand ktm. My budget is ard 3k? With this amount, which yr bike would I be able to get and how long will the coe last? What to look for when buyin 2nd hand ktms? I was also told that ktm poses lots of problems if used for daily transportation. Heard of its high fc and maintenance. Currently workin at tuas and livin ard toa payoh. How many days will a full tank last with the distance I'm goin? At the moment I'm riding a gilera and if I'm getting the ktm, it would be used on alternate days with my present bike to work. Browsing thru the forum I realise that EO is changed roughly every 2 wks (prob due to daily usage). So when do you advice that I should change my EO and for go for servicing if I ride the ktm for like 15 days a mth. Where are the gd shops to survey for ktm (reasonable price) and recommended wkshops for servicing? I was told dirt wheel is a gd plc to look for a ktm. How much to convert to motard and any plc selling 2nd hand motards? I need all help and expert advices as currently in a dilemma of whether to get a ktm (newbie to scramblers). Cheers

bro, u will be better off getting a wr200

high maintenance for using the ktm from ya hse to tuas.

2type of ppl, ppl who wans ktm for offroad use, understand the condition of owning 1.

the other type, wan the orangy bling bling factor. know nothing bout the maintainance.

the stock PWK is going to burn their pocket off when the petrol price is on the rise.

IMO.. if u use for transport from tao payo to tuas.....u pump near ur hse reach tuas.. after work got to pump again.. "depending on ur tank capacity" if not hardly will reach back to tao payo.. or just nice reach tao payo then pump again...

not onli the petrol.. the 2T.. u use cheap 2T for ur bike.. u end up paying more replacing the wore out parts..

EO change is due to off road rides.. if u use it for transport.. onces every 3-4week should be fine...

tires.. some tires wear out as fast as 2- 3 mth.. the most mayb last u till 6-7 mth...

the stock pwk do burn ur pocket off for petrol.. the aftermaket one may save u petrol but burn ur pocket off another thing...

so y not get urself a xr125, xr200, xl200, dr200 or even a wr200 if u onli wanna use for transport purpose onli... unless u r veri rich i would say then onli go for a ktm2..

Slow nevermind.... Pattern must be nice.... Bike must be BLING...

u can get a ktm2 and use it for transport ... and with a budget of $3k ... u can get a basic stock 2nd hand 1998 - 1999 ktm2 with renewed COE ...

a few things needs to be done to ensure that this manufactured Ready To Race machine is gonna be able to be as reliable as your gilera for daily transport ...

1. change to road tyres ...

2. change to the smallest sprockets set up ...

3. tune the carburettor be it PWK or Keihin to the most fuel saving setting ...

4. invest in good spark plugs ...

5. invest in good 2T ...

6. invest in the medium grade petrol ...

7. invest in a 13L tank or better still 25L tank ...

8. invest in good gear oil ...

9. service your bike monthly without fail ...

10. wash and lubricate your bike ...

With all these in mind, how much budget should i put aside if im to mod the bike to your recommendation? This will def have effect on bike performance rite? With the change in carburattor, speed will decrease correct?

1. not motard... change to dunlop 604 kind of tire

2. rear 40-42 front 14

3. pwk n pwm. pwk stock, pwm aftermarket.. both have its pro n cons

5. motul, motorex, maxima are good brands... for ktm2 1:60 appx 15-20ml per L

6. most ktms comes with 11L oso quite a no. comes in 7L.

8. gear oil not so impt as long it is change before its needs too

9. servicing means everything.. from eo, chain tension, tire check etc... replaces wore out bearings, rings

with a budget of 3k.. u should be able to get between fq-fs depending on condition.. set aside bout 1k.. rmb u pay peanuts u get peanuts..

Slow nevermind.... Pattern must be nice.... Bike must be BLING...

well power valve needs yearly servicing, shock bushing needs to be replaced yearly, erm replacement of exhaust packing and de-carbonizing of exhaust depends on how fast or how much u ride, engine bearings replacement is approx 3years once for my case that would cost about 600+ or more if there are other parts involved. as for petrol my max on a 13l tank is approx 130km. 2l 2t in a mth, but because my jetting and power valve is set to low-mid power. so i suppose that could be one of the reasons why it drinks that much petrol not forgetting the stock carb is 39mm which is big. the rest is really your luck on internal condition when u get the bike, your setting and your ride style. first thing if you really want the bike is to get the bike to a workshop to have it checked by a pro ktm mech. see if the engine is extremely noisy.
