Just rode the Versys for my maiden ride to Hatyai...bike performed well. With panniers at full load, speed maxed out at 183/km/h (not true speed - bike speedo). slight vibrations at max speed but very slight. Ah twisties at Penang area was awesome. Very happy with the bike as I finally made the most out of it and the money's worth :)

swoosh,

three popular tyre replacement choices for the Versys available here :

1. Bridgestone BT016 - this is a sticky hypersport tyre for aggressive riders. below average thread life (less than 15k km). multi compound. excellent in the wet/corners.

2. Michelin Pilot Road 2 - very good sport touring tyre. good in the wet n high mileage too. dual compound.

3. Bridgestone BT023 - latest sport touring tyre fm B/S. multi compound. good wet weather/cornering grip n mileage.

the single compound B/S BT021 is also available n often selected as quickie replacements to the original Dunlops.

not popular nowadays becos of it's mediocre performance.

am using the michelin PR2. very happy with the performance. thread wear after 15k km is minimal n guess can do another 15k easy.

fyi, the Versys 2010/11 model will be locally assembled here.

price on the road is about RM38k (S$16k) n probably cheaper than spore. tat's good news.

the new Z100SX will also be available soon n costs RM83k.

Chose the BT23 as the new shoes for my ride. It is now like given a new lease of life haha. Wow 16k, last heard the new batch next month gonna cost 20K and they are assembled further up north :(.

Hope the Z1000SX will touch our shores although local agent said it is very unlikely...

Gonna add more bling blings to my bike - side box? v-stream windshield? Before that, gotta change a whole load of wear and tear stuffs. Chain and sprockets are due (47K liao) Going over the JB to change as using back original Kawa parts...don't wanna mess around with sprockets sizes since I used to it liao :p Then a new set of tires just before my annual trip to Hatyai in April... :D

OLD NO GO, NEW NO COME.

scarab,

perhaps you may wish to consider swapping the 46T rear sprocket for a 44 but maintain the Kawasaki front 15T sprocket (as it has rubber damper rings).

after fitting the 44T on my Versys, noted the following :

1. the bike clearly felt less vibeby overall. riding off was smooth n less dramatic n had better control of the bike, rather than trying to hold the horses down. but still enuf power to rapidly pull away at the lights.

2. in fact i found the bike so much smoother tat i often rode it on 5th gear, forgetting i had another gear to shift up until i check the acumen.

3. engine revs down 500 rpm at 110 kph (5k instead of 5.5K), 120 (5.5k/6k) n 130 kph (6k/6.5k), etc.

4. speedometer error reduced. speedo very slightly optimistic at speeds below 80 kph. about 5 % over at speeds above 80 kph. previously was 10 % error.

5. odometer now reads 5 % lower than actual.

6. loss of engine braking is noticeable, n use of the brakes before corners is now a necessity for me. previously can take the bends in 3rd or 5th gears using engine braking.

for those of us who enjoy touring, the change to a 44T is a blessing.

it might work for you too.

fyi, original Kawasaki 15T front sprocket costs RM119.70, 46T rear Rm176.60 n the 520 chain RM550.40. total RM846.70 @ say 2.40 = S$352.80. prices are retail as quoted by dealer.

bought my Afam 15T, 44T sprockets and DID X Ring (VM) chain from Unique Motorsports for S$250.00 cash n carry (or S$280 fitted). imho, better quality n better deal.

rgds.

Dear Versys riders,

I am interested in getting a 2011 Versys.

Some questions i need to check out:

1) Any legal aftermarket exhaust for the Versys?

2) Where do get your machines from other than Evershine and Looi's?

3) Any affordable and specialised workshop to service the bikes locally or otherwise?

4) Anybody who fitted H&B or SW Motech aluminium top case show us some photos?

5) I understand that no aftermarket centre-stand is avaliable? Hence, who is your opinion on this guy's work?

http://www.versyscenterstand.com/

TIA

Regards,

Kenneth

1) Scorpion, Gianelli

2) Excel, Sin Boon

3) Simple parallel twin bike no need specialised shop. Just stock necessary parts from up north

4) Can go UK versys website and search

5) Imo you dun need a centre stand for the V. when you need to oil chain just add swing arm sliders and use car jack will do. If not invest in scottoiler.

anyway, i miss wildcard.

Hi swoosh,

thanks for the reply.

Looi's quoted me 16.8k machine, which adds up to about 21k OTR.

I was thinking since it is being assembled in Thailand, why was there no price reduction...

Sat on it at Looi's and found it to be reasonably manageable for my height (1.71m), but it would be better if it could be lowered.

Any guys lowered your Versys?

TIA

Kenneth

there are lowering kit and lower gel seat for models up to 2009. Not sure for 2010 models and above.

hullo all!

i'm taking my class 2 next month and have my heart set on the versys - local and overseas forums + my mechanic friends are all singing praises of the bike. i have a few questions for versys owners though, if anyone can help?

- has anyone ridden off road with yours? not the serious dirt trails, but open fireroads like those in endau rompin, or cambodian village roads. how's the handling? any problems with the underseat exhaust during light river crossings/dirt?

- has anyone taken theirs up north beyond bangkok, where the roads conditions are really bad?

- any user feedback comparisons between the 09 and 2010 model?

- any lady riders own this bike, and care to give some feedback on the weight and manageability for our smaller body frames?

thanks a bunch!!
