Ok ... my dad bought it already. And I enjoy the ride. Not meant for speed, true. If i want speed i've got a proper bike for that - My slick yellow Gixxer!! haha

Depends on preferences. Why get a classic bike if you want speed? realiability, i'm yet to find out. but i think for a 500cc engine. hope can last a long time. with very simple engine construction, it should be ok. read sumwhere on the web, there's this royal enfield club in india made a trip to the himalayas. that's a rough terrain you have there.

for those vintage suckers, no harm considering this bike. if you are willing to spend that amount for it. rather than spending so much to restore a BSA. just hope we can con't to get the enfield parts at reasonable price.

if the bike price is any lower, i'd like one for myself and convert it to cafe racer with the upgrade kit stages [suprisingly they do have upgrade kits... haha]

i saw a Bullet with saddle bags parked at sixth avenue eating place area on saturday.

Just now as i was stopping at the traffic lights near the old NIE area, i saw the same bike passing by headed toward sixth avenue.

So i presume the rider must live somewhere nearby.

If the rider of that enfield is a member here, do give a wave...

since we are located nearby each other maybe can meet up for a drink....

Hi,

in Singapore I ride a (fairly exotic) Italian MotoGuzzi-V11.

But while I was in the state of Kerala/India last week, I managed to rent a Royal Enfield model 'Bullet' for a day.

http://www.mogdoc.com/fotos/India/kerala_04.2006/enfield31.JPG

Its quite fun to ride, in the silent side-roads of the backwaters around Alleppi, but also in the buzz-busy-crazy traffic of Kochi.

Yes,

its tru, the gearshift is in the right side, and you *pull* for 1st gear, and push further down for 2nd to 4th.

And the rear brake lever is on the left side.

The first km I ride verrrry carefully and exercise, before I dare to dive into the traffic.

http://www.mogdoc.com/fotos/India/kerala_04.2006/enfield11.JPG

The sound with the original exaust pipes is tremendous - like a steam boat rolling arounf the corner!

Power-wise, it seems underpowered, even on Indian roads. I happened to be overpassed many times by locals riding on their Daelims. But I was relaxed - it was my holiday...

Summarizing:

Oldfashined bike, with a nice time-zapping experience...feel like 40 years back.

However, not useful in Singapore unless you are a vintage lover.

You get better value-for money elsewhere.

Some links: 1.Royal Enfield

2.Swiss HiTec Upgrade on 'Bullet'

Have a good May-1st holiday

Thanks Gerd.Holler for the pics and honest opinion.

In the past, I was on the fence with this one, and I really wanted something practical as well. I think I will stay on the fence as a watcher since I have a hint of forming the same opinion as yours although I did not have a chance to try the bike.

"Boss" say better take with a grand of salt.

30km/l will be not bad if it can be verified..
