4stroke (sohc) = single over head cam

or dohc = double

 

2stroke = power valve

 

2st and 4st = ignition at different cycle

 

same cc, and the 2st will produce more power.

a bit hard to explain.. but i`ll gif it a shot though.. make it simple to understand..

 

in terms of power.. 2-stroke are more powerful.. provided they r of da same cc.. like comparin xr200 n a wr200.. dun compare a ktm2 n ktm4.. diff class of bikes.. if u compare a 2-stroke ktm250 n ktm4.. da ktm250 has a more powerful pick-up..

 

maintanance wise.. 4-stroke are more fuel-efficient.. n maintenance free.. juz need to do da regular engine oil change.. where as fer 2-stroke.. gotta top up 2t.. change engine/gear oil.. n higher fuel consumption..

 

imo.. if u`re lookin fer a relatively gd bike to start besides a ktm2.. wr2 is a gd choice.. can be used as transport too.. itz a japanese bike.. parts r cheaper compared to da continental counterpart.. if u`re lookin to save $$ fer a bigger bike n at da same time wanna try dirt.. can try those 4-strokers like dr2.. xr2/125.. but dun expect much power compared to ktm/wr.. so pick ur choice wisely.. good luck..! hope to c`ya on da dirt soon.. =)

Visual inspection ----> 2 stroke got belly, 4 stroke no belly

 

want power and fun----> 2 stroke ( ktm2 or wr2)

 

want easy maintainence and reliability-----> 4 stroke (xr125, xr2, dr2)

 

basically, from what i know, the combustion from a 2 stroke engine is twice the frequency of the combustion from a 4 stroke engine.. therefore 2 stroke more power..

 

4 stroke ---> Bang!

2 stroke ---> Bang! bang!

 

2 stroke need 2T oil to lubricate.. if not the enginie will go bang! and your pocket will have a big hole..

 

4 stroke just need to change engine oil regularly

easy to say.... 2 stroke.. = 2 times the engine run 2 cycle 1 time the valve port open... 4 stroke = 4 times the engine run 4 cycle 1 time the valve port open... therefore 2 stroke better pickup 4 stroke better on the long run....
