Guys, (and gals)

The last tracktime with you guys was a decent success. I never expected dragonforce to rope in many people, whether it's for playing or to be a spectator.

I first came into this thread many months back because I've observed many people were really wanting to try to ride on a racetrack like Johor Circuit in Pasir Gudang.

At first, I simply took quick glances at the forum because it seemed quite interesting just to see what the Super 4 (and other road-biking gang) were up to, and figured out that they would probably be okay about organizing a trip for themselves to go to the racetrack and that they were self-sufficient to do so themselves.

As time went by, many people visited this thread and the questions posed were more of 'I really want to try but don't know how to get there' type. Even some were very intent of going, asking around to plan one, or a soul to guide them there.

I was once in that position a few years ago as a newbie who really really want to try track riding, and it was intimidating at first, but I found two fellas to guide me there. The interest followed on through the months, but albeit without that two fellas anymore or anyone to guide me. So I know how it must have felt for those individuals to come to this S4 track thread to request to be led to Pasir Gudang to try track riding.

This is why I have decided to come in as a guide. At first, I was pretty afraid that as a sportbiker, that the road-biking people would be intimidated by my position, but they were receptive, and they were pretty enthusiastic by my decision.

I don't know for sure whether I will be joining you guys in the future because I'm stuck in between staying as a leisure rider or to move up to the next level to engage in performance riding, but I have to say that I feel wholeheartedly equal to be with you guys, regardless of what bike we ride, f*uk care about engine displacement.... :)

Till then, keep the rubber side up on the road, twisties, and on the track.

Dear Christopher & Alvin from last sunday track session,

I came across some photos on facebook with some interesting taggings :(

I hope to clear the air up, like I said earlier... I was sorry about being late and yep I was late for a hour.... I went for petrol and when I was pumping air I realise I was low on 2t so I went back home and grab 2t and then rush to meet the rest... I don't know how to explain to you guys because if I say I went back get 2t later you all laugh lol.... I tried to say sorry to you guys but you guys are all "black" face which I understand why so I did'nt dare to do anything in case I make matters worst.

Regarding the "pang seh" thing if its because I left half-way when some of you guys are on the track, its because 2 of my friends piston jam or seized and they can't play anymore so I went for a quick few rounds and no choice but to leave with them but before leaving I did explain and give heads up to one of you guys but nevermind....

trust me I very much would want to extend my session because I only did less than 10 laps

Once again my bad for the long long wait...

Anyway im juz a grumpy old fart who happens to be as hungry as the rest, as the saying goes, a hungry man is an angry man.....ahahahhahaa

no worries my anger has long subsided when i ate finish my wanton mee....hohohoho

when will be another track session for s4 ? i am quite interested but nv tried before

anything need to prepare and get before track ?

the answer for ur qns :

For those who are going for the first time, there's several things to take note before going with regards to the safety of the bike and rider:

-Try to have enough rest the previous night. Weather + attire might be hot and you certainly won't wanna lose focus or concentration while riding on track.

-Try not to use tires which are too old or worn out. Tires are the only thing that will hold your bikes.

-RPMs on track will way higher than on normal road. I'm sure you won't wanna risk your bike's health by going with old EO or insufficient 2T. I believe fresh, new cheaper EO is still better than old expensive EO with high mileage.

-Lub your chains properly to reduce wear and tear.

--------------------------------------------------------

Some other extra information:

-There will be a lot of perspiration. You might wanna consider using head linner or balaclavas to protect your beloved helmets from stinking.

-Consider bringing extra T-Shirts if you don't like the sweat smell after everything.

-For those using GPS phones, you might wanna consider downloading GPS laptimer on track.

Windows Mobile users can try RaceChrono. (Remember to download PG map)

Iphone / Ipod touch user can try Harry's Laptimer. (Not free but do not have to download any map. It will draw the map for you after a few rounds.)

I have tried both, they are not 100% accurate but good enough if you have nothing else. Ride with your phone at your own risk, I crashed with my HTC diamond before. Luckily it was unscratched.

Lastly... be happy and enjoy yourselves on the track :D

That's a very good compilation of the need-to-knows there Chaoz! Thanks for the effort.

P.S.: You look qualified to be a future Safety Officer with your expertise there ;)

=======

I'm going to add a few more:

Guide and safety tips while on the track

- Mandatory 3 rounds of orientation riding.

- Don't overtake.

It is very important that you orient yourself to a new track, and afterwards learn efficient linings...that is, turning lines that lets you avoid going wide or off-track, and who knows, may be a good stylo-milo cornering camera shot for you ;)

- Brakes are your friend.

A very good tip that I've gathered from many experienced riders and a performance riding book.

If you are unsure of an upcoming turn, by all means use the brake. It's not a rule to go slow nor is this a demerit to your skill; you will only go faster (and progressively use less braking) once you learn how to tackle the turn.

Even I use the brakes for some of the turns even if that would mean others would be able to overtake me.

And yes, there's a technique to proper braking that won't upset the bike's stability. Feel free to ask me if you guys are doubtful.

- There's no such thing as "wrong lining".

But there's such a thing as going beyond your confidence, and this should be discouraged. In other words, if unsure, slowly roll back the throttle to a much comfortable speed.

- Pasir Gudang Track Layout (for you guys to print)

http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a383/redbeacon/Tracklayout1.jpg

Take a quick glance at the track layout, but don't flood your brain with too much the night before. This is because experience comes with really being on the track itself.

Notes-taking and asking questions are encouraged on the day itself.

Hope these helps guys :)

3. What to bring/ensure

Updated: 16th January, 9:35pm

- 7 hours of sleep

- Enough water the night before, or when at the noodle house

- Lubing jobs ensure that none of that sticky stuff gets or flings onto your tyres.

- Ringgit cash. (There's a money changer right after exiting JB customs too)

- Passport

- White Card (M'sian customs just stopped checking white cards for a while, but bring just in case)

- Fullsuit (or armoured jacket + jeans + skating knee pads)

- Fullface helmet

- Gloves

- Track Boots (or any kind of boots that rises beyond the ankles)

- Our group needs at least one person with a tyre pressure gauge, and tools to dismantle mirrors if you wish.

next track sessions? pending arrangement lorrr... xD

p.s. these are useful info, should make it into a sticky or something... =D

Oi Uncle Tec, me not racer leh! :giddy:

I just changed my fairing only to protect my valuable assets. Anyways, will see if I have time to organize one. Will ping the new organizers Chaoz or Dragonforce if I'm free to go. I have trust in them for gathering a group consisting of newbie track riders and getting them oriented to PG ;)

Hi guys, hope all of you are still enjoying biking as much as I do, despite being a lil busy preparing for the festive season ahead.

I was just wondering whether we should begin another Newbie + Free-n-easy track session seeing that the first one had a huge turnout. I brought this up in Facebook and a few friends on my side actually were enthusiastic about it.

dragonforce, Chaoz: Any opinions about starting another round? ;)
