Hello people. I've finally finished reading all 74 pages. Just bought a used CBF and got to say that it's a great bike. It's a black, P-plated, FBB plate with 66k mileage. What are the things that you guys recommend I do? I've not done anything to it yet since I collected on Tuesday but saw that the bike is still using DURO front tyres and Epsilon? (not sure) rear tyres. Planning to change the tyres soon as the front tyre skidded in Cairnhill MSCP when the bike is stationary!! Also, when I depress the rear brakes, the brakes will sometimes have a 'tak!' sound and then the bike will slow down by a lot. And I hear a rattling sound when I open throttle. Seems like comes from the chain. Is it loose? Glad to be part of the CBF community.

hi, morpheuz, welcome.

i hope you have info of the past maintenance schedule done by previous owner. else change the engine oil and spark plug asap

From your post, my advice is to check the following

tyres wear - threading (i recommend change asap from stock duro)

front brake pad and fluid

rattling sound should be caused by chain, get it checked at or tighten and lubed

check rear drum brake wear

if you are changing tyre, ask the mechanic to open up your rear brake drum to check the rear brake drum rubber - there are 4 pcs inside the drum which will last about 2 years

check battery - when was it last changed? battery normally last 2 years

air filter - when was it last changed? i would change yearly - DIY since its so simple and cost 4 bucks if get from LAB

will be good to know when both the brake pad and brake shoe was last replace. good habit to replace them after 2 years or wear&tear which ever is earlier.

AND LASTLY, YOU SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN BIPOSTO's CBF, ITS A HELL OF A MOD AT ROCK BOTTOM PRICE.

I got my bike from shop. They changed engine oil and spark plug before collection. The shop recommended me to change engine oil every 2000km but you guys seem to recommend every 1500km max. Will it have any impact on the engine? Any recommendations on engine oil? Also how frequent do you guys lube your chain? Any chain lube to recommend? Will be changing tyres and brake pads and shoe together. Anyone know roughly how much it would cost at Unique? I'm able to go either branch coz I stay Tampines but work at Jurong Island.

I'm totally new to bikes so any help will be much appreciated. Thanks.

I personally go to Toh Guan branch and they take care of me well. Ride in and have them to assess the bike. They will give you a fair assessment. After that its up to you to change or not.

Hawkz Flightz, derived from an annual event conducted by Lamborgini called the bull run, where all owners from around the country gather to drive across several states.

Advantages

1. Cheap Petrol base on exchange rate with RM$28 abt S$11.60

2. Cheaper EO change at RM$28 abt S$11.60

3. Wash your bike at RM$8 abt S$3.33

4. While bike is washed, can have a good meal at Banafee Cafe at SG food court prices is a conducive environment.

5. Gain some knowledge of recent changes to our bike and others.

If you noticed, generally the economic gains is good. So, let's revive this meetup again. A big thank you to Worra for initiating last week's session.

Bro Eo change at RM$28 is what brand and viscosity? Which Shop in JB bro? Thanks.

Hi Morpheuz.

The shop recommended me to change engine oil every 2000km but you guys seem to recommend every 1500km max. Will it have any impact on the engine?

Answer: Well, it will have no great impact to your engine but your engine will be happier to have the clean and fresh engine oil cause u're using a common sump.

Any recommendations on engine oil?

Well this is up to individual preferences. Anyway you won't go wrong with branded goods like Motul, Maxima, Chex, Agip. All the popular brands one.

Also how frequent do you guys lube your chain?

Every 500km is recommended to clean and lube the chain.

Any chain lube to recommend?

Maxima ChainGuard(clear colorless color) or Belray Clean chain lube(white milky color).

Will be changing tyres and brake pads and shoe together. Anyone know roughly how much it would cost at Unique?

This one i don't know the cost. Sorry can't help you on this. It's highly recomended to change the stock tyres to Better grip soft compound tyres. Stock tyres always skid. As you are newbie try to get Battlax BT45 cause your rims are 18'.

I'm able to go either branch coz I stay Tampines but work at Jurong Island.

Good for you.

I'm totally new to bikes so any help will be much appreciated.

Good. Hope you like your bike and always be careful when riding.

Happy riding.

Thanks for your help. Read that you're riding the FZ150. Was considering that too but the wifey didn't like it as it looked too small. So settled with the humble CBF. Loved every second riding it.

I asked UM and they quoted me $159 to change both tyres to Michelin Pilot Sporty, 90/90/18 front and 100/90/18 rear. Also planning to change/clean airfilter, change to HEL brake line and EBC brake pads and change the rear brake shoe/lining. Quotation for total damage is about $330. Is that ok?

Anyways, had a flat rear tyre yesterday so I went to change my tyres at Toh Guan immediately after work. Service was excellent. Before I stopped my bike outside the shop, the boss (i think) already made his way to me asking how he can help. Changed to Michelin tyres and they also found that the rubber in the rear hubs (i think) are all melted. Changed it all. Now the bike feels way better than before. Still a lot of work to be done to the bike before i'm happy with it though. Need to wait for pay day and bonus to change all at one shot. Also what's the optimum pressure for your tyres? I'm using Michelin Pilot Sporty 90/90 front and rear.

which UM did you go? who did you speak to ? if you are free, arrange to go down with me. call me, should be able to me you there for a chat.

I work near the shop, give me some lead time before you go.

I think the prices are ok , as there are some labour costs involved.

Since you are doing a handful of stuffs, why don't you get your carb serviced($20 to $25) at one go.

and change you EO(take the oil package change with iridium plug, choose a 10w 50w grade oil, better for your longer journeys) .

Your traveling distance is tremendous. It was definitely very wise of you to choose the CBF for your long ride.

Go home and thank your wifey for influencing your choice of bike.

Remember, most of the things you are changing, is more for the long run,

Tyres should last about 20 to 30k km

Brake line - long term

Brakes - mine lasted more than 30k km

Air filter - abt 10 to 20k km

SO the $330++ is a very small investment for the next 30 to 40k of hassle free riding. It will depreciate, at abt $1 per 100km traveled.

My mods were done by one mechanic at one place. He did tell me that he will do only once for me.

He might do it again for someone i know or regard as a good friend.

He shares the same philosophy as me,

In the end,

there can only be one!
