do we have to transfer the insurance too?

need to pay?

Hi runbird, yes u can choose to transfer insurance but usually that's a waste of money. More worth the $$ for the next owner to simply buy a new policy of his own. :D

And no, seller don't usually pay for the insurance of the buyer. Its usual for buyer to fork out the $$ for his own new policy.

so registration includes a transfer fee?

Hi Kele,

New bikes would need to be registered with LTA once, after which it would be legal for it to be ridden on the roads. Once it has been registered, this process usually isn't repeated again, unless the vehicle was de-registered for some reason. The owner would then need to pay yearly road tax to keep the registration valid.

Transfer fees r paid only after the the 1st owner had bought it from the shop & decides to sell it to another person, where there is a change of ownership. :thumb:

The transfer fee is $3.00 , but plus the addition transter fee this will

depend the year & the capacity of your bike.

When U go to LTA U will know the exact amount U need to pay.

normally quite low if 400cc. less than a hundren.

Hmm... u mean the sales guy highlighted to u, that u would need to pay for transfer fee when u were talking over the price at the shop?

Sometimes, the case is that the shop wants to keep the new scoot/bike in the shop, out of the warehouse. They were then register the scoot under the name of the shop. Then when buyer comes along, they do a transfer to the buyer's name. Might that b ur case?

Can check on ur vehicle registration card (commonly called "log card") & see the previous transfer date. If it's just 1 or 2 days b4 urs, then likely that's the shop's transfer entry. No worries yah! :thumb:

How to tranfer Insurance? The insurance company usually get the existing

owner to surrender his insurance, will refund the remaining money, & the new owner have to get the new insurance under the new owner name. They don allow tranfer, also the NCB.

It is Not necessary to be in this way, when I buy my TA200 from the owner,

agree that he pay 1/2 year of road tax & insurance, I only setter for the transfer

fee. We did that.

I think They R correct, the additional tranfer fee r based on U bike cc &the year

they will work out the market value of the bike , they will charge by the

percentage of the market value ( may be 10% of the market value). so they

charge U 106 should be the correct amount.

I think the bike has been registered under the shop name before they sell the bike.

if u buy 1st hand bike

normally the final price the shop quote u will include insurance premium and all the LTA registration fees

usually u need to wait for a few days before u can collect yr bike after paying deposit for it

if buy frm pte seller

1. take logcard of the bike from seller and purchase insurance yrself frm those insurance office branches....insurance paper w/ yr name etc on it can be obtained on the spot

2. proceed to LTA HQ at Sin Ming area to do the ownership transfer....new logcard w/ yr name etc on it can be collected on the spot as well

step 1 and 2 can be done in a single day within office hours
