Well, just to let you guys know that Kallang KFC is installing an ERP paid parking area for bikes and cars and the system should be up and running by end Dec or sooner. Directly opposite KFC, Madonald's parking is already in operation with the 1st hr free for cars, followed by $0.80cts for 30mins thereafter. As for bikes, so far Macdonald is still free.

Another one further down at S'pore Sports Council is per entry basis with 10 mins allowance for cars. For bikes will be 65cts per entry.

I just lost my 1st attempt at writing this due to some quirks with CCleaner. Lucky for you guys, the 1st attempt was long and rambling.

So here's a re-write:

I encountered a little clutch issue with my deauville 650V. Its was getting harder to shift gears and I suspect a broken clutch cable. Turns out there's nothing wrong with the cable. The metal end-cap for the rubber hose had basically snapped, resulting in a slack clutch cable. The fix is simple, just re-adjust at the end near the engine compartment instead. Mech will get me a new set by next week. But this temp solution will hold up even longer in event of any unforeseen circumstances.

I've been riding this deauville for over a year now. During this eventful 14 months, I'd experienced several wear n tear issues.

1. 1 month on, the bleed valve and the run-off for the fuel tank was clogged. The bike will stall as though there is no petrol. When I opened my fuel cap, the tank will "pop". Solution was easy, just use compressed air to clear both parts. Lots gunk.

2. After 3 months, the fuel tank's weld repair gave way. Suspect previous owner had done a cheap-ass job. Its one of those hack jobs that is difficult to detect. I tried the same solution twice but they lasted no longer than 2 weeks before giving way again. something to do with the position of the hole. Its located length-wise along the bottom edge of the tank. Luck has it 1 deauville owner decides to scrap his silver 650V and I was able to pick up an intact one on the cheap. Silver blends in well enough with my Deauville's Black. So I saved quite a bit on the re-spray as well.

FC immediately improves from 16kml to 18kml.

3. The lid on my left pannier has some difficulties locking properly. I'd the misfortune of having the lid pop open during a particularly bumpy ride. Lost my stuff twice, luckily stuff of no economic value. There is a need to push the lid hard to make sure the lock is engaged fully. I guess the lock mechanism is too worn out.

Now I just keep a spare set of clothing in the left pannier + an instant camera + First aid Kit. Things that you hope you will never need to use.

4. New Rear Tyre. I kept to the same Dunlop Arrowmax GT-501. The old was turning pine-apple shaped pretty fast.

FC improves from 18kml - 19ml

5. New front tyre. Dumped the old Arrowmax. I am having problems trying to keep to my intended path at higher speeds on the more gentle curves on local expressways. The front wheel feels as thought its "slipping" away from the turn. Went for Metzeler Z6 on my Mech's recommendation. The grip's much better but I can't tell whether the extra $50's the cause or that all new tyres worked great initially anyway. Full synthetic EO change and Oil Filter change at the same time.

FC improves to 20kml and a bit.

I'm happy about the FC improvement over the year. At least I am getting the same average FC that other bros are reporting. I should reach 21-22kml if I tone down my throttling. (not that you will ever see me doing that. I like riding hard too much)

For my 120kg 1.83m frame, the Deauville suits me and my riding style very well. I alternate between leisurely pace and outright show-of-speed depending on whether I feel alert.

The deauville's apt in that it has a rather wide power band across the RPM.

I can quickly up-shift my way up to the last gear (5th) and take the bike from 40+kmh all the way to 120kmh, and stay in 5th across 3 different expressways until I exited. Absolutely no shifting of gears required. I do not even need to down-shift to get past that pesky road hog. A quick twist of the throttle and I am already riding past 130kmh before I know it.

Or I can drag the RPM near to 5500rpm and leave most cars in my wake after the 2nd gear. Only a determined 2.4l can outrun me. (Heheh... still leaves a lot to be desired when I can't even keep up with a GTR...)

650V can stroll leisurely along at 90kmh, its most fuel-efficient speed. Its just ticking along nicely at this speed.

It can cruise comfortably along at 120kmh, my de facto speed on the expressways. (sorry, non-existent TP)

I've tried varying speeds above 120kmh. These higher speeds felt decidedly strained to me. I still await a chance to take the deauville for a higher speed run up to Malacca on NSH. Maybe after the CNY next year. I hope to allay my doubts to the deauville's ability cruise at 150kmh or even higher.

I find 120kmh to be "zen" on the deauville. Its a pace that's perfect for my off-peak hour commute. The windblast's still tolerable at this pace. Any faster, I would need to keep a death grip on the handles and tuck my long torso in for the ride.

As you can see, there's no major problem with a bike nearly 11-year-old. Most of the repair issues concerns peripheral parts or wear and tear.I'm expecting the fuel pump, rectifier and maybe the fuel cock to go next. All spares on standby at my mech. =p

The way I see this, so long I keep faithfully to the servicing schedule, this bike could go on indefinitely.

The big problem's mostly aesthetics. The brittle fairing's starting to crack. There's more and more cracks and chip-offs with every servicing. I lost a small plastic panel already and am still looking for a replacement. But I'm not bothered by this. Worse come, I will just send the bike for a body mod. (No frame alterations, just the outlook.)

All I wanted was a reliable bike that will transport me to work and back without fail. And i got it.

Now if only they placed a 6th gear in the deauville. Now that would make it the perfect Commute-touring package for me.

PS. I will settle for Honda HFT in the next NT700 though.

Max speed? Does it matters in Singapore? Beyond 140kmh, your license gets revoked anyway.

max is about 180.

i tried to reach there with my NT700, but could not.(on NSH)

cause my tail start wriggling (maybe bcos i got a top box).

Deauville is more for a relax ride/light touring machine rather den running super fast.

seat is comfortable, i can slp on it (with my legs on the handle bar).

:p

if u like to get to places fast, this bike might not suit u.

but if u r looking at something relax, n would burn ur pocket with petrol, can consider taking it.

;)

So i guess this a relax bike with petrol burning behaviour...

Wishing all DV bros a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Leaving for Genting Highlands early tomorrow morning.

Happy Holiday... Ride safe with all the rain and crazy singaporean driver on NSH.

Yup agree with the report above... I also have been riding 650 for abt 14mths already and so far did quite a bit on the coolent system, basically I have change everything you can find on that system, water pump, all the O rings, repaired the radiator, change the whole themostat kit, temp sensor, fan switch :) Now no matter how hot the day is, how slow the traffic is, how long I get stuck behind traffic lights, I only hear the radiator fan working hard and never see the red temp light ever again :)

With the recent renewal of COE, guess I am going to stick with this steed for a while more to come... its not a beast that blast all the way, its not a gentle lamb that throttle slowly... its a steed that ride and ride and ride and with occasional speed run :) Me too hitting 20km/l maybe cos my 70km round trip everyday to work consist of 90% highway, but of course its hard to keep at 90km/l on this steed, 100-110 is the norm... even with heavy traffic! haha :) This bike still can squeeze quite well, comparable to my old super4! Even the sports bike - R1, CBR couldn't squeeze as well... or maybe its the rider!! ;>

Merry Christmas everyone!
