I heard of people using kerosene to clean their chain .. but isn't it dangerous? Kerosene is highly flamable ... Sekali ... caught fire .... whole bike on fire ...

Cyrix

petrol is highly flammable as well... and to make it worse the tank is just between ur legs where ur balls are... shouldn't you be more concerned about the petrol catching fire? :p

kerosene is flammable so when you're cleaning your chain make sure u take a few precautions like not cleaning it when the engine's still hot or smoking a cigarette when cleaning... the chances of it catching fire should be quite low. unless someone flicks a cigarette butt out his window and suay suay it lands on the kerosene

edit: heng ah... i think i'm the last post before 444 :cheer:

Go for a bike wash at JB at least once a month should do the trick of removing excess buildup of oil from the chain bah .... they used those high powered spray ... I always stand there and direct them where to spray ... chain... hard to reach areas ... under belly ... underseat where the muffler is ... etc ... secondly ... install a scottoiler ... to re-lubricate the chain automatically after the wash ... (that's my solution... )

To me ... I dun do all these technical stuffs of removing screws ... and parts becos I am too lazy to do all these ...:p

Cyrix

do take note that jet sprays r for overall washing. cleaning of chain, i dun recommand to use jet spray. reason is simple. the jet pressure is high n water may seep into the links of the chain with the help of the jet. so its even worse then not cleaning cos water replace the lub in the chain then will rust very fast. that applies to bearings' dust cover. u wun wan water to seep in.

hehe...done it 2 weeks back on the afternoon when we met up at kkfc.

yah..have to unscrew a few stuff like the clutch cable and gear lever..

it's really dirty...but now it's all clean and nice.

thanks to skateboy's help too...

oei... tot u say its between u n me? :giddy: urs is dirty cos u used the wrong type of chain lube. now u know wat type to use, so u wun have that kind of chain again. :D

wah...

u use wd40 to clean ur chain???

good luck to u...

anyway, if u got paddock den it ll be much easier lah...

haha...

=P

use WD40 to clean is ok. but must wipe it off after cleaning. then apply chain lube subsequently. but if u know how to clean the chain, its very easy. hougang saw it already. WD40 is not O-ring friendly. X-ring still alright.

paddock stand? hougang will tell u an even better stuff to use. bet he is looking out for it.

using kerosene is recommanded by the chain manufacturer. but of cos when u use kerosene or diesel or petrol to clean the chain, its common sense not to smoke else if catch fire, alot of ppl suffer.

not sure if it can degrease the kinda oil we had. i had tried those kitchen degreaser, sucks big time. i end up have to use other type of oil to strip off that degreaser. anyway, no harm trying. use abit n c wat does it do to the chain lor.

dun wan. i learn the hard way. cannot so easily teach ppl one. but to b frank, its not that difficult as u think it is. u just need to have the right type of cleaning agent, rags n chain lube. paddock is a bonus but dun have oso can use other methods.
