A PX150. Or a PX200... or an Excel 150... or an Exclusiv 2 150....or a Bajaj, or an LML basically any Vespa that is not an A plate...

You're not going to be keeping it forever, so just make sure you'll be able to sell it later (Italian PX's will command a slightly higher resale price & tend to have slighly less troublesome mechanics)...

Read the wiki. Trust me... the info is all there for you...

So for a new rider like me what do you suggest..?

know what you want and go for it..my very first bike was an 'A' plate vespa :) was a terror learning how to ride it at first but was well worth the trouble once i got the hang of it

:: plan a: pour all your savings onto a vintage A-plater; a Super, Sprint, Sprint V or if you're lucky, a 150. Be prepared to pay between 2500-5000 (depends on the model and plate). Take this purchase as an investment. but make your rounds first before jumping into buying one...

plan b: get a classic restored PX vespa. may and may not be an A-plater (depends on your luck), but sure does live up to its classic mod look & image... 1500-3500...

plan c: get a PX150 or PX200 for well below 3k. a nicely done-up hardcore vespa and mod it up like the mods of brighton...

plan d: get a super retro not-done-up-crash-test vespa for below 1K... mainly the old PXs, excels & exclusives... but dun get me wrong... I am refering to well-maintained engines with ok-ok body outlook...

plan e: what the f**k are you waiting for?! go make a choice quick so that you can join us in future vespa rides & meet-ups~!!! ::

4000km since you last serived? or 4000km since new??

Check the wiki under maintenance....

I'd be looking at new oil $5 (or there abouts)... and a new clutch cable (if needed...) that and the normal carb clean and de-coke.... Should be less tha $60... Nearly free if you DIY... all this stuff can be DIY'd pretty easy.. just don't go pouring your old gear oil down the drain! (take it to a motor shop... they get money for recycling it...)

FU plate px200- i suppose it has 'Cosa Clutch Inside",that means its alot smoother.but not when its travelling at slow speed as you will feel slightly more vibrations compared to a 150cc travelling on slow speed.

px200 has more vibrations at low speeds but once you hit 70-90. it gets smooth...and its this really airborne kind of smooth....very hard to explain but u can ask around and fellow px200 will agree....fuel consumption is quite higher and might be significant in line with our $2 per litre.

actually that 50cc can only be felt when u go on long haul rides....then again i have had kitted T5's doing a much better job.other than that ,i guess 150/200 doesnt make a world of a difference.

FU...i suppose its fitted with a disc brake. i suggest u not to overwork the front disc..coz ultimately it will affect the fork...but this will take a long while..

and becareful with front tube installation...because the tube airneck is too close to the disc for comfort.

just sharing my 2 cents worth before lunch is catered for.,

It's easy to laugh...It's easy to hate.

Though it takes strenght to be gentle and kind.

What Modstar said...

Also... its all about the TORQUE....

The 150 and the 200 have simmilar top speeds.. but with the added torque, the 200 is better at climing hills and better at carrying passengers...

I am a 12 days old px150 rider.Got my AZ plate from old uncle at $500. Change the seat($60), box, CDI($197)Front rack($65) and now I am enjoying every bit of it. Do take your time to look around.

where did you buy the cdi from?

$500 for that scoot is such a steal :-)
