FMF Pipe:

"Been running FMF's with the stock jetting with great results at all rpm's at 5,000 up to 9,500 ft. after 12,800mi. they are getting a bit loud , time to repack."

"Installed FMFs last week, good sound and they still have baffles in them.....noticed a low end bump with stock settings on carb.....front wheel seemed to come off the ground a little faster"

"I have them too. Fit easy. Weigh 11 pounds less than stock and none of the ridiculous heat from the stock cats. Quiet but with an authoratative deep throaty sound. Plus spark arrestors which are essential if you are going anywhere into USFS territory both from a moral and legal point of view.

Take the stickers off when you mount them and they look like they came on the bike. And they are in the $500 range.

I haven't even rejetted yet--though will do after the cannisterectomy--and the bike is running fine. Noticeable difference in performance with them on too--engine just feels much more eager to please and less restricted. All good."

Arapovic pipe

"Dyno runs before & after fitting Akra's

Stock UK bike 92.2 bhp 63.5 ft/lbs

Akra's with baffle in 92.1 bhp 63.4 ft/lbs

Akra's with baffle out 92.6 bhp 63 ft/lbs

The power and torque curves for all 3 runs are virtually identical all the way through the range.

The stock bike was weak on the mixture, KTM UK reccommended lifting the needles a notch when fitting the Akra's (they also say its a good idea even with stock pipes). No airbox mods.

The mixtures and CO2 readings were fine both with and without baffles with the Akra's after lifting the needles.

The bike does backfire more on decelration with the Akra's fitted. Do UK bikes have this cannister fitted which bleeds air into the exhaust for emmissions?

Conclusion. The Akra's look nicer, sound nicer even with baffles in, quite loud with baffles out, but very nice.

The Akra's weigh 59% less according to the factory info which i can believe having felt the weight of the standard cans, they also run a lot cooler without the cats.

Something that the dyno doesn't measure is the throttle response which is definately crisper without the baffles, front wheel comes up easier.

Could also be viewed as a lot of money for no gain power wise"

"My info from too many searches and talking to ktm-sommer is that when doing the airbox mod and/or adding the Akra cans is that the ONLY jetting change is to lift the needles in the carbs by 1 clip setting. All other jets stay as is - unless you want to tune the nuts off the beast.

The latest Cycleworld has a Leanings articele by Peter Egan that deals woth him adding the Akras to his NineFiddy."

Just found out some characteritics about the 950 today.

Too much heat around the ankle while running the bike, I believe, is cause by too much engine oil. I realise that when topping up the engine (close to MAX marking), the header and pipe will get extra hot! My habit is to top it up till near MAX marking, this is a wrong way of doing it. Remember my complaint to you about the heat Cyclop? Pilot has the same problem too.

According to the manual:

top up oil when engine is warm: at least 4 bars on temp indicator (I always check it when it has settled, incorrect too!).

Engine oil should fall between Max and Min Mark on the dip stick. Too much oil will caused difficulty in air flow(?) or combustion(?)that causes it to produce too much heat.

:sian: I never read the manual properly....
