Aftermarket Exhaust Inspection Procedures

hi guys just want to clarify if i buy a new bike with an existing aftermarket pipe.

is it if you buy a bike with a legal exhaust with cert, the cert is given to you but previous owner's name on it, you don't have to do anything? just keep the cert with you at all times can already?

Its Akrapovic, its avail in SG and it is street legal. Just that buying it online is about 20-25% cheaper. I just wonder how to get it done n inspected..

go to akra dealer, to get the paperwork done.

not inspected, you are still liable to be issued a summon for illegal exhaust.

good luck to you if you get stopped by LTA.

fine is 750 for illegal exhaust, even though it is street legal. no paperwork = not street legal.

Archer- before i call the dealer, would u also know if there is a need for the bike with pipe to be present when new owner is there to do the pipe transfer documentation? Thanks.

depends on the dealers.. most will require the ex-owner of the pipe's ID to confirm not a stolen pipe. unless you bought the bike from bikeshop, den you will not need the ex-owner's ID.

check with the dealers, just in case.

Ok. Thanks. Looks like no clear procedures that is consistent. Just wondering if the bike needs to be physically present for dealer to see during the transfer process. Will check and update here.

different dealers work differently. but all will require your logcard to process.

the general guideline is tat previous owner IC will be required for 2nd hand exhaust, unless its from bikeshop.

Yup. I will be having the prev owner's IC (photocopy) to do the transfer.

I will update again. Thanks much.

Hi guys, just wanna clarify something. Recently I bought Super 4 from X shop and I bought a 1st hand Yoshimura Stainless Steel from them as well...I have been waiting for about 3 weeks now and still they have not given me the documents for me to go inspection... I am chasing them for the documents now...In any case, if I decide to handle this myself and get those papers myself is it possible? I understand one of the required documents is tax invoice for proof of purchase which I can request from shop...Btw how much do I need to pay to MotoWorld to get the pipe transferred to my name? Need advice as to what to do now.

get the necessary papers from them. MW need to process internally before you can go for your inspections.

in short, chase after the shop which you got exhaust from, not MW. chances are they forgot about it.

They didn't forgot abt it... They have been reminded a couple of times by me... All I can do is wait and keep bombing their phone...I was just wondering if there is an alternative way to solve this.

Update: problem solved. Found the alternative way.

Went down to Motorworld and got the necessary documents to go Inspection. Receipt also received.

All that's left is to go down Inspection centre with the documents i got + Insurance + NRIC.

Thx archer for trying to help me. Cheers!

Update:

I called Gmax (mine are a pair of LV pipes that came with the bike) to check on transfer procedures, and was told by the angmoh-sounding dude on the other line that I will need to bring (1) the booklet (which is essentially the certificate from the manufacturer) that came with the pipes; (2) the bike with the installed pipes; and (3) the registered bike owner has to be present. The transfer fee is $53.50, and the transfer will be done on the spot. Chop chop chilli chop.

For the benefit of any new LV pipes owners...

Cheers.

I called Gmax (mine are a pair of LV pipes that came with the bike I bought over from someone else) to check on transfer procedures, and was told by the angmoh-sounding dude on the other line that I will need to bring (1) the booklet (which is essentially the certificate from the manufacturer) that came with the pipes; (2) the bike with the installed pipes; and (3) the registered bike owner has to be present. Update 2:

Brought the booklet and bike to Gmax. Also had to show the vehicle transfer confirmation (or logcard) to prove transfer of ownership to your name.

Didnt have to show the bike in person (because of the particular pipe I have). But better to ride it down in case Gmax needs to confirm.

Very fast, filled in a couple of forms, and then paid the $53.50 and that's it. You will receive the invoice and a letter to LTA (pls keep both carefully) so that you can go to the inspection centre for pipe inspection.

Cheers.

Update 3:

Brought bike to Vicom with the above docs for inspection. Approved and even got LTA letter in the post only recently. Now, everything is street legal yet again.

Good to keep all these docs safely somewhere, as well as having a photocopy with you while riding in case some LTA officer wants to play punk.

Hey bikers,

Heard that GMAX has shifted from Jalan besar to Paya Lebar. Any info on its exact new location? 2nd question, how long do I have to get my exhaust approve after changing it? I got caught by LTA few days after I installed my pipe. Answers very much appreciated. ;)

Google Gmax Race and the exact address is there. Somewhere at Ubi in Frontier building.
