Anyone knows where i can get a rectifier and coil for spec 3 and roughly how much?

Recently got problems with my spec 3 [earlier post on ticking sound}, went to 2 workshops, mech bullshit here and there, change my rectifier to the small one which was used in VER S, told by another mech my rectifier for spec 3 is the bigger type.

Anyways recently overhaul the whole engine, new block and pistons [ticking sound was from pistons rubbing against block] top service done.

@ramsnake, thanks for the advise on getting to a reputable mech. So now left with issues of charging... recharged my battery and found that voltage around 13.8V even after revving and on high speed around 12.5V [ voltage while idling is measured using a proper voltmeter not the display one we usually use on our bikes]..

I guess, I need to change my rectifier to optimise my charging, the mech I went to quoted me $165 original Spec 3 Rectifier[big Type]

Anyone with any advise?

Thanks

You're welcome, @chainteef

You can buy the parts at the following OEM parts dealers:

FJT Parts & Accessories

63925928

15 Rowell Road

Singapore 207973

Chong Aik

62942532

45 Desker Road Singapore

These guys supply parts to most of the workshops in SG. I prefer FJT because they are like a one stop shop for Honda parts.

I suggest you call them to check the price for the parts you want. Then ask your mech for a quote. Allow your bike shop/mech some mark-up for profit and labour because that's what they are there for, to cover overheads and pay salaries. If your shop quotes too high, you can also try to ask if they allow you to buy the part yourself and charge you labour cost.

I usually know how much my parts will roughly cost and just let my mech do the job for a reasonable profit. That's how you build a relationship with your trusted mech. The more jobs you give them and the more you become friendly with them, the easier it is for them to give you a good price. Sometimes, my mech even do some stuff for me FOC

Thanks in advance.

You should ask this question at the other CB400 thread.

Members here all ride the Revo which is an EFI bike. Revos also come with "rabbit" throttle response as standard issue and we definitely won't tolerate or live with turtle throttle response.

Sorry, couldn't resist that... just kidding :p

Please note that I do not have any interest in any bike shop nor am I related to the people (mech or salesmen) that I recommend. I am only doing so because I believe that if I find something/someone to be good and reliable, I should share. That's all it is.

WIDE and TALL HANDLEBARS

I tend to grip very near to the edges of the handlebar, basically half my hand is on the bar-end weights. I guess due to my touring bike position, I am used to it. I find the narrow bars of the S4 a bit constricted at times. My hands just naturally unconsciously drift to the ends. Been thinking of swapping with a wide bar and a more upright position.

I wonder if I do this: Do I have to change (1) brake hose, (2) throttle cable, (3) other wirings ..due to change in height and width of the bars, pulling on all the existing length of the cables.

If that's the case, I will just stick with stock. Too much things to change.

Anyone has experience upgrading to wider taller bars?

Half of your hand resting on the bar ends is quite bad. Especially if this also happens to your right hand. Do you feel any cramps/ache in the arm or shoulders after a long ride?

I'm using the stock handle bars and my riding position is such that my left hand grips further outwards so that about 1in of my left palm is resting on the bar-end (R&G, like Motovation type). My right hand grip is ok. Maybe it's because its gripping the throttle. Nevertheless, I'm comfortable with the stock grip positions. Even with the left hand gripping slightly outwards, I don't experience any cramps or numbness in the hand and shoulders.

If you fit the wider bars available locally like Renthal, you should be able to use the same hoses and cables. If you do fit wider bars, do remember that your ability to filter traffic will be reduced.

Have you tried rotating the stock bar towards you? You might want to try doing that first.

Bro, you need to give us more info such as:

How old is your battery? What is your typical ride distance? Do you often ride short distances and stop, start for short ride then stop? Have you left the bike for more than 10 days or so without starting?

Without knowing the above, no one can pinpoint what the problem. Everything else is just speculation.

Also, do read my post re-produced in the FAQ thread on meter needles 2nd sweep issue and battery charging.

Cheers
