Window media player problem

Hi Guy,

 

My fren just dl a movie and he lend to me...when i open the file from my window media player and its stated "error downlaoding the codec"... but my fren able to view it on his pc.....

 

i already dl the "DivX Media Codec 4.1" but still unable to view it... so any 1 can help????

 

Hope expert can help me solved my problem... thanks in advance....

why???

this is the best decoded to view using wm, maybe u need to config with haali splitter avi support.

 

click start > all programs > cccp > settings > next > check "enable haali splitter avi support" > apply.

 

open wm n happy watching.....

btw...my windows media player cant read chinese characters...how can i rectify that? i already downloaded and installed the simple chinese characters for windows XP..but my wmp still cant recognise chinese characters.

wat do u mean???

wm just play movies viewed as coded, movies+sub-titles r encode together using encoding softwares.

if u r playing dvd movies, it is better tat u use wincinema or any dvd player which can select different languages for it's sub-titles like english, chinese, thai, malay, etc..

u annot install too many player de..it will crash or error prompt u..depends yr player got support any extention mah,..i delete media player.my comp got real player version 10 only.cos it support most of the extention...clear n great

Whenever i opened a song to play, the WMP will convert some files in the background.

I will only know of this converting when i want to close the WMP and a prompt will appear telling me there's some conversion of files in the background and if i close the WMP, the conversion will stop?

What conversion is that???

I never allowed any conversion!!

sorry, i dun use wmp at all. i suppose its converting the songs into a format so wmp can play. no harm done. no worries.

Nope. the songs i play is already in MP3 format so is just plug and play.

But the problem is the WMP is converting something without my authorisation and is making my computer system lagging.

Suggestions to make WMP sit still:

 

In the Tools > Options pane

 

Player tab

[1] Uncheck "Download Codecs Automatically"

[2] Check the "Prompt me to back up my licenses"

[3] Uncheck "Add music files to library when played"

[4] Make sure no music CD is in your drive when you turn on your PC. If it is, please remove it.

 

Privacy tab

[1] Uncheck "Update my music files (WMA and MP3) by retrieving missing media information from the Internet".

[2] Most importantly IMO, uncheck "I want to help Microsoft software and services even better by sending player statistics to Microsoft"

 

Media Library tab

[1] Uncheck "Update my music files (WMA and MP3) by retrieving missing media information from the Internet" --- yep, this is another one too.

- It is a free cross-platform media player

- It supports a large number of multimedia formats, without the need for additional codecs
