Not really true... Sometime companies do need fresh graduates for new projects that are in their pipeline...

 

Try searching today's "The Straits Times" Classified Jobs page C69... Poval Asia Pte Ltd is looking for Chemical Process Technicians... ORD personnel & fresh graduates with Diploma or NITEC in Chemical Process Technology are welcome to apply... No harm trying your luck...

Exxon restarts Singapore refinery unit

SINGAPORE, May 18 (Reuters) - ExxonMobil Corp. has restarted a 115,000 barrel per day (bpd) crude unit at its Singapore refining complex two weeks after a fatal fire forced it to shut the unit, two industry sources said on Friday.

 

 

 

The crude distillation unit, the smaller of two at the 300,000 bpd Pulau Ayer Chawan refinery, begin processing crude around midday, said the sources, who are familiar with operations at the plant. It was not clear when it would run at full capacity.

 

An ExxonMobil spokeswoman declined to comment. ExxonMobil had said after the May 3 fire that it would restart the unit "only when safe to do so", but industry sources had expected the CDU to operate soon since it had not been seriously damanged.

There'll be serious shortages of Operation & Maintenance technicians , and there'll be pay adjustment to keep existing workers.

SINGAPORE (Reuters) -

 

Oil trader Concord Energy is seeking to build a multi-billion dollar, 150,000 barrel-per-day (bpd) refinery in Singapore, less than two months after its plans for a smaller condensate splitter were shelved, sources said on Thursday.

 

"Plans are under way now to build a specialised refinery on the same plot of land which was originally picked for the previous project on Jurong Island," a source familiar with the project said.

 

It is still unclear how quickly the new oil facility will start construction, the source said, adding that the privately owned, Singapore-based company is in the process of submitting plans on the new project to the Economic Development Board (EDB) for approval.

 

Concord Energy and the EDB declined to comment when contacted.

IMO, opportunities are always there even for the 5 years to come...

 

The older workers need new ones to take over...

 

Thus the demand is always there...

 

Results are not necessary the sole thing people look at for a fresh grad.

 

Other factors like team-player, work attitude, abilities to follow simple instructions etc etc etc are taken into account too...

LOCAL electricity generation company PowerSeraya's push to become a full-fledged energy industry player moved up a gear on Wednesday, when it unveiled a slew of bold expansion plans.

 

The Temasek Holdings-owned company is diversifying from electricity into commodities, including steam - yes, it will be selling hot air - and oil and gas.

 

It also plans to apply for carbon credits in a scheme designed to cut the carbon emissions that are said to cause global warming.

 

Chief among PowerSeraya's new plans is an $800 million investment in a natural gas-fired generation plant to replace three of its nine oil-fired units on Jurong Island.

 

On Wednesday, PowerSeraya inked a deal with a consortium made up of Germany's Siemens Power Generation and South Korea's Samsung Corp, which will build an 800 megawatt facility - called a co-generation combined cycle plant.

 

It will take two-and-a-half years to build. The new power plant will be 30 per cent more efficient than the units to be replaced, each of which are more than 10 years old.

 

The facility will also be able to produce steam. This additional output has enabled it to enter the steam supply business. It has already found a customer.

 

On Wednesday, PowerSeraya signed a 15-year deal with Petrochemical Corp of Singapore (PCS) to supply ultra-high pressure steam which it needs to process petrochemicals at its Jurong Island cracker, for an undisclosed sum.

 

The steam supply is slated to start from the third quarter of 2009. PCS is half-owned by the Japan-Singapore Petrochemicals Co and the other half by Shell.

 

The third plank of PowerSeraya's growth strategy is to enter the oil trading business. To this end, the genco announced that it has set up a trading arm in April to deal in physical fuel oil.

 

Called PetroSeraya, the 22-man trading unit will also trade in gas 'in time to come', said the firm.

 

PowerSeraya, which currently supplies 28 per cent of Singapore's energy needs, is one of three gencos owned by Temasek.

 

As part of Singapore's plans to liberalise the energy market, Temasek said two months ago that it will sell all three by end-2008 or early 2009.

 

As the upcoming co-generation plant is expected to reduce PowerSeraya's carbon emissions by 10 per cent, the project will be the first power plant in Singapore eligible for carbon credits under the Clean Development Mechanism of the Kyoto Protocol on global warming.
