Hi guys!

I have a weird problem. My PC was fine until suddenly some time a few days back, it started to hang or restart by itself. It had BSODs saying stuff like NV4_DISP errors and PFN_LIST_CORRUPT. I know these errors point to a graphics card driver error or the card itself.

I tried reinstalling the drivers, uninstalling using Driver Cleaner Pro, updating drivers, using Beta drivers and rolling back drivers. I have killed ALL my overclocks and it still ends up with the same problems. Note that i have NEVER OCed my GFX card.

The funny thing is that, in SAFE mode, everything works fine. No crashing, no nothing. But as soon as i install ANY Nvidia driver and i restart, i get BSODs like nobody's business. Sometimes i cannot even get into the loading screen and the thing just restarts itself. If i get into my login screen, it looks funny, and if i get into Windows, everything loads slow and it eventually BSODs and restarts by itself.

I do not recall me installing anything or updating out of the blue. The thing was that system instability occurred about a week ago and i reduced my overclocks to stock settings. That gave me enough time to complete my essay paper. A day later, it got worse and i go these NV4_DISP BSODs etc.

My PC specs are below:-

MSI KT4AV-L

AMD Athlon XP 2000+

ECS Nvidia 6200

1 x Corsair 512MB RAM

1 x Kingston 1024MB RAM

40GB IDE HDD

That's about it. I know my system is old but i don't really need a powerful one. Just to do my uni stuff and surf the net and this system can more than handle simple stuff like that. I have been running this PC in a stable Overclocked and stock state since Dec 2009 (Almost 2 years) and this suddenly happens.

So my question is, what could be wrong. Could it be some driver conflict or my Nvidia 6200 is actually failing? Note that everything is alright in safe mode. Thanks.

Additional Info:

Multiplier and FSB Settings

Stock -->12.5 x 133

Default -->12.5 x 100

OCed -->12.5 x 160 (Max i would ever go stable. I would need to increase the voltage slightly)

RAM timing and latency

Stable -->333MHZ @CL3

*because there are 2 RAM sticks, each of different vendor, latency and capacity.

Corsair DDR400 CL2.5 512MB

Kingston DDR400 CL3 1024MB

*All other settings remain NORMAL when overclocked, except for CPU and RAM.

*Kingston 1024mb stick and ECS Geforce 6200 was bought NEW in Dec 2009.

if u did, and have set back stock clock and settings, best bet is to swap it out already. 3 more years renew COE already.

Hmm... Could it be? I'll give it a shot...

EDIT: I checked the HDD for errors. No errors found. Still same problem. Hmm...

Yes. Tried it with the original driver, still no avail. I killed my overclocks, used stock settings and even underclocked it. Still the same problem...

Safe Mode bypasses your graphics card when you login to the computer.

This is the reason why in Safe Mode, the colours on the screen looks....um, yucky, but at least Windows will still allow you to login to t/shoot your issue.

If it BSODs again in standard mode, try uninstalling the Graphics Driver.

Can't login because of BSOD? Access your PC via Safe Mode to do this.

If problem goes away w/out the graphics drivers, your Graphics Card maybe need to up-lorry already, considering the fact you mentioned that uninstalling/reinstalling drivers did not work either.

Did you stare at the graphics card itself? Any bloated or burnt stuff?

No bloated caps, nothing burnt. Card spoilt?

Card can malfunction even if there's no bloated caps or chips.

Try swapping with a working graphics card (and install drivers for it) to see if the problem goes away.

Anyone wanna give this chap a card to test?

road_[/MENTION]duke;7306980]my best bet is ur gfx card is preety old hence the caps might be overheat..

time to change a new one la..

log on to vr forums..

In the PC world, this is the same as asking me to get a new bike. I know my rig is old, card is old, cpu and mobo are old, and it doesnt take a genius to evaluate and troubleshoot to just buy a new rig altogether. Hell, its so obvious that i NEED to open up a thread asking someone to help me solve my problem and asks me to buy a new PC right? *Sarcasm* Haha. Just joking la bro. Don't take it to heart. :cheeky:

Come one! Come one! Give crazydj a nice AGP 8x card to test!!! I have 3 dead and one artifacting spare AGP cards with me right now. Argh. Haha.

I am still secretly hoping that its something to do with windows/nvidia drivers. :(
