yahs, sometime, its really not about de dog, but de owner.. though i dunnno anything much, but to me, how de dog behave since young, is learn via owner. same as new born baby. if de owner took good care of de dog, it'll certainley be a good doggie.

but if owner no heart to take care.. hais. :sian:

wads with these people. :pity:

well, no choice. time to go for petrol session. jam jam jam. :giddy: :giddy:

That's really overwhelming to hold the pathetic little creature while the vet kills the little animal.

Why can't the owner just let the animal go to the SPCA for shelter or put the little creature up at your place for adoption? I'm sure there're kind hearted souls around who will be more than willing to take in the little animal.

Do you always have to do this dirty job?

not always. this is the 2nd time i encounter such case. first time was 2-3 months ago. Owners, a couple were under pressure from AVA to "get rid" of the dog. the owners reside in HDB flat and dog was a border collie, an unapproved breed. the first day, my boss advise them against it, gave them contacts of boarding kennel which also do behavioural training. (dog is aggressive). at least, board the dog until it gets a new home.

so they gave it a try, went down to tt place. the next day, they returned to the clinic again, decided to put down the dog. i asked the husband why? first - even if the dog gets rehomed, he don't think he will adapt well. second - he doesn't like how the kennel was doing the behavioural training, quite harsh.

my colleague and i were very hesitant about doing it. we delayed the consults and tried to contact this patroniser/friend/dog rehomer to see what can be done. she helped out checked it out for us. found out tt the husband is receptive to the idea, but the wife is not.

it's their choice, what can we say. they insist putting him down.

for today, i looked at the owners address. their dwelling is a HDB flat. is it the same reason as previous case? i don't know. she is relunctant to say more.

i don't understand why they don't give their pets another chance. at least, try.

the new AVA license ruling and stricter implementation is intended to deter pet abandonment and control pet population in the long run. but now, we have dog owners either euthanising their pet or abandoning their non approved dogs

i think the owner have this thinking "if i cant have it,i rather put it down than let pple have it"

this is sick. then there is a chance they would do that to their spouse?

we handle all kinda things at job. its all part and parcel working there. to me is de 1st time. to her, it isnt. but well, its still de same isnt it? de owner doesnt wanna rehome de dog. despite vet's advise & suggestions.

blurling... i can tell you. this is the hard aspect of the job. all these emotions of having to deal with living things. having to put down healthy dog just because people get pets on impulse. the animal get stripped off a chance at life just because of human err. there is more. sometimes we get animals abandoned at our clinic. it puts us at loss many time.

It sounds very much like an executioner's job.

Leaves a crimson stain on your days ahead...

I cannot imagine a cute little doggie ...

but i try to tell myself, the blood is not in my hands, it's in the owners' hands. it's their dog, it's their call.

Hi juvena, on one hand i envy you have the opportunities to interact with cute hairy little animals. While on the other hand, i'm quite disgusted with the most ghastly jobs you are entrusted to accomplish. Have you any cases whereby there're happy endings to the little animals? Call my effeminate but I'm very attracted to doggies, kitties and hamtaros. The sight of them staring blankly at me melts my heart.

of cos theres happy ending. some of de dogs are down with liver/kidney problem. yet de owners are always coming back, willing to spend de money to let their darling baby leave jus a lil' longer. they are de REAL owner with tons of enthu.

it's fun to work with animals. they don't shout vulgarities at you or call you names like people do, which can hurt your pride and esteem. the most they can do is bite or scratch, it's just physical damage. the owners however are the ones capable of the former.

there are definitely satisfying aspect of the job. having animals coming in really sick, and seeing them getting discharged, happily wagging their tails as they leave the clinic.

seeing an abandoned kitten coming in with skin ripped off its tail, recovering from it after surgery and a year later, when they come back for their yearly check up, knowing that they have grown up to be a really fine affectionate house cat.

and also having a dog running into our clinic, with cataracts, weak legs and maggot wounds. not knowing what to do with him, contemplating sending it to spca but no one could make the call. in the end, we got him treated and rehomed. the fosterer brought it to spa and dog cafes, he was enjoying life. thankfully, we didn't surrender him to SPCA then.

also delivering puppies or kittens, hearing their first cry. however,i don't condone breeding animals though. because there are too many around. if one can afford to keep more dogs in his/her house, why not adopt one that is bound for death sentence.

oh sorry didn't know :giddy: why did you give up the comfort in the office? better pay?

I'd let my pet die asap to reincarnate to a better(hopefully) life instead of allowing it to suffer

too bad there is no medisave for pets. veterinary care is not cheap and it's not subsided some more.

sometimes i ask owners if they want the receipt. they just shrug it off saying, "what for? cannot claim also."

yes of course remember.... baby's owner, even they are GPs, they don't act like typical doctors in vet clinics (arrogant, think-they-know-it-all, act big shot etc etc). many times, i noticed, if client is nice, their dog is also of nice character. if the client is of ****ed up character, the dog is also of ****ed up character one. lol.
