Yap you can check if its spark plug fouled this way. If spark plugs replace and it still foul, need to check for the cause of it.

might not be the carb?

 

i saying coz i had two cylinders not firing coz of wet sparkplug too. i sent to bike wash, then i point to one side's spark plugs tell them don't wash, but they wash the other side. confirm, when take out, it's both sparkplug from the other side which are wet and short-circuiting (not firing).

 

so, that might be something too. bandit sparkplugs prone to getting wet easily.. it's something people on this thread have talked abt before, ya?

Not riding anymore. Once you pop off the fuel tank changing the air filter is very easy. You can refer to the manual, if unsure just drop by my place and I can demonstrate how to remove the air filter.

After reading your post twice I still dun get what you mean.

 

The bandit has this problem of water seeping into the spark plug recess hole, due to crack rubber seal, due to age and intense heat from the engine. Water can also seep in if the rubber seal is not cap properly.

 

Luckily the rubber seal are cheap to replace, i would suggest to keep a few as spare, so you can readily replace them if its worn while changing the spark plugs on your own.

i'm sorry. uh, let me try again..

 

i sent my bike for a wash, and specified to the washers not to wash "this area" while pointing to the sparkplug caps, but only from the right side of the bike. (and we later found out that they really didn't wash the right side, but DID wash the left and got the sparkplugs area wet).

 

bike worked okay til the next morning, when it wouldn't start easily, and kept stalling at low rpms. because it was slow traffic (lots of half-clutch driving), i gave up a short way from home and took the train.

 

at the bike shop, we took it apart to see what was wrong, already suspecting a sparkplug problem. took off the tank, and then there're these rubber caps (?)inserted into the sparkplug recesses (?) (but i'm not sure i got the technical terms right) and we took them out, and the two on the left side were wet. blew out the water with compressed air and everything was okay again. the mech told me it's probly a short-circuiting from the water inside the recess, so there's no damage to the sparkplugs and it's okay to re-use them.

 

so.. i was saying it might not be a carb problem that xiaowang is talking about. coz he describes sparkplugs not firing, and the water problem is a common thing with the bandit. just trying to help, sorry in advance if i'm passing out misinformation..

 

and ooops i didn't check my er, rubber caps, for leaks. but thanks for the tips with the rubber cap issue anyway, gary. remember guys, always keep spare rubber caps, you never know when u need 'em ;p

 

(btw xiaowang, you mention it sounds like some cylinders aren't firing.. from my experience, my bandit sounds a bit like a phantom 200 after being in the rain. just saying coz it might be helpful for ur troubleshooting )

Follow the spec 55/60w you will be safe. You can try the more expensive bulb like philip diamond vision which cost about $35 per bulb.

Try Repsol fully syn, you will be smiling. Not sure why but the oil seems to work better with suzuki bikes, its proven on my old gsxr750 and bandit400.

Hi Fellow Bandits...

here is a shocking news that happen to me last Sat am. Well I was at a particular bike shop getting an exhaust pipe (end can) for my Bandit, as the old one is leaking. After doing some research between wrapping a aluminium or getting an end can, I find the end can more feasible.

 

Hence the end can story goes ... Reach XYZ bike shop, bought the end can and paid for the installation as well. Wait for awhile b4 being escorted to a workshop to have exhaust fixed. Finally my turn, mounted my bike on main stand. A real season n experience mechanic started to saw off my old end can.

 

Took new end can and start n giggling here and there. DROP my new end can n scratch it. Mech jus act nothing happened and carry on his work. Start working again, next the exhaust pipe was able to pop back into the cut off part. * noted all these while the mech did not remove the front part of the exhaust fr the engine, eg 4 in1 part. I assume that he knows wat he is doing.

 

Here is the BEST part. After he manage to squeeze the new end can into the saw off part of the exhaust, he applied GLUE, yes i repeat GLUE ard the cut off part of the exhaust proclaim DONE. He instucted me to push out the bike n let it dry under the sun for awhile. To my amuse i thou he was kidding with me, i asked ' ain't u going to weld it ?' mech,' no need la, use glue can liao' i was so shock that i was loss for words.

 

This would be worst than before, leaking not so bad. But now is like a running tap!!! haiz ...

 

In my heart i tell myself, this fellow cannot make it. No point to talk more. I rode to my regular bike shop, which was not too far away n told them this story n they laugh their pants off... Anyway I ll be collecting my bike this evening after proper welding and a regular service.

 

 

Conclusion I will never never step into that XZY workshop to have my bike service but maybe to buy parts n accessories. * Noted i dun wish to publise that bikeshop name so as not to jeopadise their business. Guess fellow bikers might be able to figure out whcih shop it is ...

i think i know which bike shop, they gave me the same treatment too. installed my rear rack and box.. very rough with my rack, scratched some paint off the rack arms (those parts have started rusting now) and when installing freely hammering at everything. in the end the two racks weren't the same height, so i had a slightly sengeh box. a bit sian but heng it's just cosmetic. cheap parts, but horrible workmanship.
