I just hope it's worth the wait. So Yohji, how's the bike so far? I'm also wondering how's the agent service? Is there anywhere else that we can send our Triumph for servicing other than the agent? Any good mechanic to refer to?

Hey minime, the Street Triple gets top ratings from bike journalists and riders all over the globe so you can be more or less rest assured :) The bike feels something inbetween a vtwin and an inline4. Best of both worlds I would say. Smooth, yet torquey enough.

I'm still getting used to the bike's sensitive throttle. The cornering capabilities are excellent! Don't have to worry about your foot pegs scraping the tarmac (well maybe I didn't go low enough, but I know I went quite low hehe). The Dunlop Qualifier tyres are very confidence inspiring once you learn how to lean the bike. They are actually track/road tyres! Right now the only complain I have is that I have to tip toe (not very cool, especially at traffic stops with girls looking haha!) but that's not the bike's fault  As for the hot engine and exhausts, I think I've got used to it already (but I don't pillion, so I don't know how comfortable the pillion will be on this bike). When you are riding and having fun, you won't be bothered about that. Just ride faster if you feel too hot

As for servicing at which shop, I think it is a sensitive topic. All I can say is I have not done any servicing at the agent so far. But all I did was oil and filter change. Any reputable shop can do it. Nothing major that requires the expertise of the agent so far *touch wood*

Wow man .. 2 months .. I totally understand how you are feeling right now. It is not easy. Try to do something which can kill time (watching youtube, sleep more, work OT) hehe!!

A couple of pics from yesterday. Went riding with my bro-in-law.

Simple reason, the less on the road, the more exquisite. So means you are keeping the Tiger for touring and maybe getting the 696 for play? So lucky .. wish I could do that.

O'right man, green colour? What accessories are you getting (or plan to get)? 2 month's wait, you might be getting next year's model?

exquisite? true.

theres no other bike for this price and this rare.

but now theres 4 green streets. whahaha

the little birdy says next yr has matt lambo orange

infact the tiger is more rare then the street. :D

but the prob is parts, tips, advice locally.

696 for play. not really play but project bike?

u can play 2, i add u subrider.

the new s4r is coming out with the new design, maybe better wait for that one?

Ok lah 4 greens still not so bad. Just don't become 40  (agent is going to curse me for this). What I saw from website is there will be yellow colour next year and a 'R' version with adjustable forks and better rear shock AND radially-mounted brakes (actually I don't know why it is better than normal mounted brakes). Orange should look good too, as long as it is not too dark.

Tiger (your model) is definately more rare OTR. Parts maybe can get online. Maybe Speed Triple uses the same parts? Need to ask those who are more experienced for advise. As for riding experience, bike behaviour, I guess it'll be more or less the same as our foriegn counterparts, except for climate (less hot engine for them maybe).

696 for project! Wah lao! I don't have that kind of $$ man. The 696 looks good enough for me out of the box but maybe got to change the funny looking headlight and exhausts and add some carbon fiber bits. New S4R? That I got to see man. But if the exhausts are 2 by the side then I won't like it. Must be symmetrical!! Hehe.

This thread is alive with constructive stuff for all to read. That's good! :D

no way will there be 40 GREEN MEAN streets la! its not easy to get gather half that no. of monsters already not to mention truiMPHs.

u mean your forks are not adjustable? what abt the daytona's shocks?

do u all share the same fork with different settings?

next yr will also have a 675 tiger.

baby tiger. what a cub!

tigers def. more rare. its because of me lah!! ha ha!

i know u know what i mean.

seems like the engine is the same only

eg tiger & speed & sprint

675 & street & upcoming baby cub

so engine parts no issue

its the other bit & pieces that is harder to source

also not sure whats the diff between radially mounted and not radially mounted. im also not sure if mine has it. specs says floating discs and radial calipers. even with the abs, no chance so far to really test it. i think after riding for so long, we are mentally inclined to never lock the front wheel by braking. self conservation practice. best kept that way i think

oh yea, where in the manual did u read about the tool kit?

might is lacking something i suspect!

http://www.webbikeworld.com/triumph-tiger/

scroll to the bottom.

and in the website above i quote u something that may explain the handling u are facing,"The only gripe is the strong bottom end and reasonably sensitive clutch combine to make low speed manouvering a little tricky until you get used to its habits. No great drama, but something that might initially spook a new user. A little experience soon cures it."

Yah Street Triple is like the "budget bike" in the Triumph catalog. It doesn't come with adjustable fork but I don't think I need to adjust it lah. Daytona comes with all the bling bling because it is Triumph's flagship race bike :)

Wah Tiger 675!! Won't it be under-powered? Unless they can make it very light. Should look cute!

Found something about radially-mounted brakes here: http://www.motorcycledaily.com/13november02radialbrakes.html. It says that

"A radially mounted caliper is stiffer, and is better at maintaining alignment with the rotor. This means the pads stay in alignment better, making better contact with the rotor and exerting less lateral force on the rotor while generating less heat for a given pad pressure." Maybe it matters to racers, but I guess normal brakes are good enough for me? You can try the ABS at a heavy vehicle car park hehe. But better don't lah, it's not a cheap bike.

Manual didn't say what is in the tool kit. It just says tool kit. Smart eh? My tool kit is just a piece of allen key and a metal stick that holds up the fuel tank. Pple in other countries are getting the same thing. Tool kit (two kit) indeed!!!!! Wow the Tiger comes with so many tools?? Better check with the others who own the same model Tiger as yours. Those tools come in very handy when you go touring.

You need to tip toe when you stop at the traffic lights? You must be of very small build. Just like me. How tall are you don't mind me asking.

The other bike looks just as good as the Street Triple. What make and model is that?

I hate to admit, but yes, I have short legs  I'm ard 1.65m tall (or short). The Street Triple's heat height is 800mm. But it won't affect you once you are on the move. That yellow bike is a Kawasaki ER6n. 650cc parallel twin engine. Comes in green too :)

So minime, what other extras did you order with the bike? Which colour did you choose? :)

Hahaha... I'm shorter than you Yohji. If that's any consolation to you.

I've not ordered any extra for the bike. Just told them that I want a green Street Triple. I don't believe in paying for something that is not in the shop. It doesn't give me any bargaining chips. Furthermore, it doesn't motivate them in selling the bike when the physical bike is not in the shop. If you know what i mean. Will ask for accessories to be thrown in once the bike is in.

Hehe ok don't worry bro, height is not really an issue as long as we can still tip toe.

Green one also. Ok good choice of colour hehe. Ok man that's your strategy but don't post it in the open. The agent reads this thread too hehe. Maybe they know that people WILL buy the bike. If you know the bike well enough, chances are, you will get it. So in that sense, they don't have to worry. Demand is so high ...

The TriuMPH agent can sell a green street anytime w/o the bike arriving on our shores. not to mention waiting for it to arrive and bargaining for it.

Do u have alternatives choices if do not get the street in the end?

There are plenty of choices out there. It really depends on how and where I want to spent my money. It's like spending money on a pair of new shoes. There are so many nice and different model out there. Would you pay for a pair of shoes which is not on the shelf and to wait for another 2-3 months for it to arrive?

Yes, there are plenty of choices out there, variety is good for the consumer.

The question is, how badly do you want the green street?

If there are only 5 green ones allocated to Spore, I know a few ppl who will down a deposit before the order is made to the UK.

what bike are u riding now?

did u buy it when it was only in the stores?

How badly do i want the green street? The answer is not so badly until I can't live without it. Or my wife and kid will leave me if I don't get it.

Update:

Found a screw missing from the raditor cowl yesterday while washing the bike

Checked coolant level and found that it is way below the minimum mark :faint: But engine didn't show any sign of overheating. But better be safe than sorry. Topped up with tap water for the time being.

Will go to the agent by this week to sort these out. Maybe adjust the chain also. Other than these, everything's still fine so far. I'm finally over the 1000km mark!! Haha!!

CMYRS, what does your average fuel consumption gauge show? Mine's 6L/100km all the time. But when I observed the instantaneous fuel consumption gauge, it is around 4.5L/100km to 5.5L/100km. I wonder if it is updating or not .... 6L/100km is like 16.6km/L. That's pretty bad. Though I must admit that I blast the bike for short periods sometimes ... Maybe I should ride super slow tomorrow and see if it shows any difference.

U got a screw missing, I have screws loose plus a nut missing.

Since then, I have gone round the whole bike tightening every single screw, nut and bolt.

Mr Alex also reported tremendous coolant drop.

Best to top up with bike coolant. Previous bikes I topped up with water, ended up rusting, water was red when a radiator flush was done.

Water has a lower boiling point than coolant, so in the end, most of the water disappeared after a few more rides.

I think the 6km/L u see all the time is the AVERAGE Fc.

That one takes a long time to update.

try this, find a stretch of non-stop expressway, say abt 20km.

Switch yr gauge to show avg fc, take note of fc. before moving off.

Ride at a constant rpm and speed thru out.

IF u ride leisurely, your fc will drop.

Keep your rpm low.

IF it still doesnt drop, got to get it checked.

What does your bike instant FC show when ure moving off, slowly or just using the clutch?

Hi all

Just curious. Did any of you guys send your Triumph regardless of any model back to the agent for any servicing before? Any problem with the parts and service backup?

Cheers!

Normal, oil, filter change can be done anywhere.

Parts so far not an issue.

Its the problem solving part that is of concern.

Triumph is a 'rare' bike.

So is the Duke, but with the duke, more mechs are more experienced with it.

In Spore, who is familiar with triumphs?

Triumph is a 'rare' bike. This is a major concern. Having said that, when one buys a Triumph. You have to pray that it doesn't break down after the warranty period. That's worrying... Now having second thoughts. Yah, in Singapore who is familiar with Triumph?

Wow are the screw and nut from somewhere critical? Mine was from the radiator cowl, not very important if one drops off, so still ok.

Oh man! The mechanic told me water is fine!! The coolant is actually pink/reddish in colour. Looks like I better go back this Saturday again and ask them to put in real coolant for me. I hope they don't charge me for that. Sigh!

Hey you got to watch your Tiger's engine oil level. Also ask Alex to watch his. I was flipping through an old issue of my BIKE magazine today (pg. 160 of Nov. 2007 issue) and it commented abt the new Tiger and Daytona "drinking" engine oil! It seems that the warning lights didn't come up even when the oil level is dangerously low! So some of the bearings in the cylinders got fried and screwed up the engine! So don't depend on the electronics. Better check manually.

One thing I hate is that the bike does not have a window for me to check the oil level (like Ducati has). I got to literally pull the stupid oily stick out to check. They say they used different pistons for the Street Triple (same engine as Daytona) to reduce oil consumption but I am still not letting my guards down!

Yah 6L/100km is my average FC. Today I checked, it dropped to 5.9L/100km. Slight improvement there haha!! Cos I have been riding a lot of expressways last week. So it does change, nothing wrong with it. Ok one less thing to worry.

I haven't been checking the instantaneous FC for quite some time now. If I remember correctly, when moving off, it was like 14.5 - 15L/100km. It then drops to 4.5 - 6L/100km when you are at constant speed. The rest I can't remember .........

Hey minime,

I went to the show room last week and saw the Black Street Triple still sitting there haha ... it could have been yours if it is green. Then there was another green one sitting there with Arrow low-boy full system and Triumph bar-end mirror, waiting for collection. Looks like green is still the more popular colour choice

something for you to read:

I seems to have the same problem as well. Might be what those guys were saying; that plastic elbow thing or radiator cap. I suspect maybe also due to loose radiator hose. But so far i too busy to check.

I haven't top up yet, I think no big issue as long as there is coolant in the reservior. Personally I dont like to mix the coolant with water, I suggest u change ur coolant while tighten those hose clamps.

My coolant in the reservior is just below the LOW mark, but not as "tremendous" as CMYRS said lah. haha. I tought the coolant was green in colour when we 1st got our bike, red doesnt look healthy leh. I have change the coolant since my 2nd oil change. Think its time u change urs.
