That is a super old Mac you have there, bro! But what is the model name?

There are many 1st Gen iMacs released back then

Was your optical drive working fine before?

Anyways, on a Macintosh, the logic is that Mac OS operating system spits out discs that it can't read. Even when the optical drive's lens are dirty, this also falls under the same situation as a "can't read."

Other "can't read" situations are, but not limited to, the optical drive's circuitry is faulty, ATA data cable faulty.

Try these steps in order:

1. Insert another disc and see what happens (again, need to know your Mac's model, and whether it came with a CD or a DVD drive, just wanna make sure)

2. Buy/borrow a disc drive cleaner from a computer store. This is a special disc with a small cleaning brush on its underside that brushes off the dirt as it spins inside the optical drive.

3. If steps 1 and 2 doesn't bring the slightest hope, think you need professional help. Even then, the Mac service centres have to order a replacement part for your old Mac, and from my experience, it usually takes months, if not weeks.

Oh, so it should be the G5 iMac, dubbed the colourful iMacs right?

If you aren't PC DIY initiated after Steps 1 thru 3 to take your iMac apart, do take it to an Apple service centre. They know what to do, and parts for these usually take a few weeks.

hmm it have been long time i used that com...left it in my mum room and she used it to play those puzzle2 thingy games...lols...just now nothing better to do...so decided to have a spin with it...and it spit the cd i want to hear...frpm then i knew something is not right already...

haiz...yet to try step 3....but if all cant...then i may just leave it like that...not sure izzit worth repairing...or might just buy an enclosure lah...for external cd rom...at least can support my window too if i ever need to use...hmm...
