hi just wondering if anyone can give any pointers on the following-

 

In my home country i've got a 78' Yamaha SR500. I'm now in Singapore and want to get a bike here and if possible would like to go with a classic/ cafe racer bike...

 

Can anyone give me a quick run down regarding having a similar bike here (are older bikes a lot more $$ for COE)? What about bringing in an older bike from somewhere like malaysia or thailand (say a 70's-80's yam or honda)?

 

Not going to be here for too long and also will be parked outside so don't want to spend too much...

 

Also any places/ people/ shops i should talk to if i'm looking for a classic?

summsumm99, with regards to your questions, vintage older bikes like you put it are scarce and extinct in our part of region (many have been axed by owners who couldn't care less due to COE renewals and many lie dormant (laid up) by owners who don't ride much. The only handful that you might come across still ride on SG roads... that would depend solely on your luck into bumping one.

 

I'll suggest doing your homework by doing your rounds in the industrial estates where most of the bikeshops are around here in SG - Autobay, Bukit Merah, Kaki Bukit, Ubi, Tampines, Ang Mo Kio, Sin Ming Industrial to name a few. Ask around.

 

Or hang around, maybe and perhaps there might another round of vintage biker gatherings by the old timers.

Not a chance for 70s cb400f, as far I know only got 3 in sg now. Cb350f still got quite a few running, so ur best bet is cb350four.

there's plenty of SR's and other cool old classics in thailand,,, would it be very hard to buy one there (send it to SG via road) and pay the taxes & coe to put it on the road in singapore?

Hi mate, I know 1 shop own 1 cb400f but bike is in pcs now. Also got another work shop own 2 cb350f but as far as I know, they do not wish to sell it.

I have a 1984 Kawasaki kz750, just rebuilt after being laid up for 5 nearly 6 years ( was playing with other toys )

Now, I need a set of four carbs for this particular model and the meter, can anyone help?

Would to search here n locally before I start gg eBay.

Above mentioned items are currently not in good working condition; albeit still running acceptably okay.

Ah that's not cool, i thought there may be provisions for 'classic bikes' beyond a certain age (as I thought i read that you can bring in classic cars into SG, shame it doesn't correspond across to bikes).

I have a friends with a kz650 here. Never see any kz750 so far in local road. Singapore wether is not good to store carb n I will rather get from eBay instead.

Yes, u can import and reg the bikes that is made during 1930 or below. Some people had did that.

 

But I find most of the sexy classic are from 1960-1970.

there is one more unit of same model kz750 laid up by a mechanic/bikeshop owner. his bike parts are 9/10 original but in a 5/10 condtion.

 

i reckon he will need to do a bit much more re-conditioning than me, if he were to start the rebuild project.
