Hi everyone - long time no see.. just starting to try to make some time to come back and be with you guys here..:)

Alvin, sorry to read about your accident. I'm glad nothing serious happened to you - by the look of the scratches it wasn't just a minor thing, it scratched metal parts pretty, you're lucky to have escaped with no major injuries.

I agree with MJ, I don't think changing the bike is going to make a difference for the skidding. However, clearly our bike's rear brake tend to give us a bad habit of pressing too hard too fast to get a better result. I realized it when I went for Class 2A, my rear breaking is way too hard, and on a bike with better brake reaction, I can feel it's too much.

I told you the other day how it happens to me from time to time to lock my rear wheel and almost skid ? Well, it never used to happen to me before, just recently, and I think maybe the drum pads are less efficient so I have to press harder - which is the last thing you want to do especially when it rains.

This is a good reminder for all of us to always keep in mind that we can't rely on our rear breaking. If you need to make an emergency or last minute or surprise stop, reach for your front break first. The rear breake will be more efficient when the bike is already slowing down. Otherwise, it's wheel locking that's going to happen.

And yeah, everyone go get yourself proper gear please. Y'all have boxes all over your bike, just get damn riding boots and jacket/pants and be done with it : you can put all that in your giant boxes ! :D Even if you don't have a box, you can still wear riding gear. And trust me, it is not a problem of price or money...if you wanna be safe you can find cheap options if you really want to gear up.

That's it for me, gotta get back to work.

Oh, welcome to all new pulsar riders who joined while I was M.I.A, it's nice to see new people joining :cheer:

just had a near accident, this white car came into my blind spot, i spotted it, then immediate in my front, cut into my lane, i was prepared for it, give the horn n brake, saw behind clear, so no worries. i think i gave the car driver a bit of scare. after i catch up n guess what, a female driver, . she's going to the same area where i'm working. next time see her must say hi. :D

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

SIAN....

just had my 1st ever accident

light was turning red so i slowed down and started to brake

just then my rear wheel locked and skidded...

i hope u dont have phobia of riding :cheeky:

I've slipped a few times, mainly due to slipperly surface, have chance of front n back. thus i have the tendency of not braking too hard. if u see the red light n traffic is clear, speed too fast, better not jam brake, esp in raining time. some old birds say that if u're within the 3 arrow of junction, it's safe to dash the red light, so if need be, just dash, but dont brake n dash, then u wont make it.

btw, i just changed my battery, using wet cell now.

mj, the battery u mentioned, confirm it's dry cell, what ah boy said, he asked me which i want, dry or wet, recom me the dry, even showed me the battery, same as what u describe, pour in water, wait for 5min, bubbles, then seal. but i demanded i want wet, then he lppl. cos wet cell troublesome, need to pour in water n charge 15-30min. then i waited patiently n he keep chasing me out, ask me go outside wait. :faint:

Hi,

Thanks for the warm welcome back :)

@gaban: there's only a few boxes to take care of, everything else is unpacked and the apartment now looks a bit more like a home and not like a storage room :shy: Thank you for asking :)

@Fredd : since you mention it.. I chanced upon these photos, this guy had an accident, he was wearing jeans, a t-shirt and puma sneakers.

With just gloves, and a riding jacket, he would've basically protected himself from this. Just some pictures to give something to think about, to those who ride without gloves because "it's too hot" :slapforehead: - please, please, reconsider. After you ride with gloves a few weeks, you will never want to go back riding without them ! (Me I can barely move my bike from the parking spot to the washing area without gloves !).

Also, those who ride without proper boots or shoes, and put on their slippers or crocs (yes, you know who you are ), think about it : you think everything is fine and you're worried about your head and your bike. But remember, it is your arms and legs that will hit the road first, any way you fall, your feet, arms, knees and hands will hug the road.

ps: sorry we see his butt - not my fault he got injured there too ! :shy:

Now that I live a bit further from my work place, I get to spend more time commuting. And I must say - drivers are insane. Woman or man doesn't really matter. At the end of the day, if you do enough commuting during peak hours with high traffic, when people are tired or stressed, you realize that :

- You can never check too much

- Blind spot, before turning, hell even before signaling, check check check

- Always be ready for the dumbest most dangerous reaction from drivers and from cup kias (hello over taking you while you're lane splitting!)

- Take time to check before doing anything - there will be a moron doing something moronic right there

- Be more visible: wear flashy colors, wear reflectors, add front and back lights, ride during the day with high beams

- Always assume the worse of others. Be prepared for dangerous behaviors on the road like people are out there to kill you

- If you think the car saw you, think again: flash your lights, horn, and always slow down. You will often realize they did not see you. (especially minor / major road intersections and junctions where you have the right of way)

- And the most difficult part: be patient. Give yourself time, give others time to react. Patience and calm will help you stay extra sharp and focused (I find this to be the most difficult thing to do especially when crazy people do crazy things)

Just some feedback to share with everyone. Hopefully it will help us all take time to think about how we ride and how we can better adapt to others. I don;t think other road users will improve, I have made my peace with the fact that some people on the road are real dangers to others. But we can anticipate and always remember to assume that people have not seen you, will not give you way and will not signal in advance their intentions.

@Alvin, the set of gear is it related to your accident, or a maintenance you had planned before it ? Did you change any fairing parts ? What about the crash bars and exhaust pipe - I don;t suppose you changed those, did you ?
