How much do i need to pay if i send the bike to the mechanic to check? Which shops are recommended for pulsar?

universal motors. it's at queensway.

http://www.umpl.com.sg somehow i can't access their site...

iirc, it's $6 for basic checks. but i advise u to view at least a few bike n choose the best one from there. those u shortlist then sent for checks, so not to waste ur money. ;)

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

COE: Normally the previous owner paid for it already so I suppose if second hand, you should pay what's left of the initial COE price he paid - but wait for the others to reply, I'm not too sure , sorry

So i pay around 1.6k-1.7k?

Buying and selling used bikes is just like stock market. Demand and supply.

If seller is desperate to let go then maybe you can get at that price you mentioned. Lowest I saw a bike selling is about 1.5K for 2006 Pulsar. Highest about 2.5k. So there is no fixed pricing. Depends on your negotiation skills, how much time you have for searching etc. The condition of the bike is a totally different aspect.

His question is what should be the price of a bike which has is COE ending in 2016, meaning a 5 year old bike. Normally bike buyers and sellers, here, use the COE ending date as a reference point as they can use they bike for the number of years COE is remaining for, unless they renew the COE after expiry.

- Overall outside look and : look for rust, bended pieces, traces of touch ups, scratches, different paint color (to hide something),

- When was the bike last serviced, how often is it serviced

- what's the mileage of the bike (number of kms it clocked - this will show on the dashboard when you ON the bike, can't be altered)

- how many owners before you ? How many riders ?

- Where was the bike sent for repairs and servicing ?

- any accidents ? drops ?

- How much COE is left on the bike ? any installements left to pay ?

- any major work was done to the bike ? Any overhaul (to put it simply it's opening the engine to change or repair key internal pieces or readjust them, not necessarly a bad thing)

- What's the last woner's experience with the bike ?

- Look at the tyres: do they look new, look at the tracks of the tyre, on the rubber, are they still deep or does it look a bit like sandpapered and smooth ? (worn)

- Any changes were made to the sprocket and chain ?

- What oil do they use on the bike ? What fuel ?

- Start the bike and have a ride around: hear any suspicious sound/noise? How's the gear lever at your foot ? smooth enough? Try to go to the fourth gear at least, ho many RPM do you clock on the dashboard for what speed ?

- How do the brakes and clutch feel ? How does the throttle feel ?

- Does the bike have a box, or sideboxes ? Was the rider pillionong someone on a regular basis ?

- Did he do any mods to the bike ?

- check that all lights are working

- Any change of battery ? Ask him to open the side door of the bike soyou can see the battery - you can see how wires are plugged to the battery, someone who takes care of their bike will try to put things together neatly, do you see open wires, not isolated, or old / in bad condition ?

Now, i might be picky on some things. And obviously the seller will want to only show his bike under positive light. But take your time. Ask questions, let him talk about it, bit by bit, he'll share more.

I recommend you take someone with you who knows bikes or even better, who knows Pulsars. it will help you make a decision with confidence.

At the end of the day, you can never be 100% sure of what another rider did to the bike. When riders love their bikes and take care of it, you see it right away by the things they've done to it, and by how much they can tell you aout the bike's specs, performance, and feeling. They will also give you advises on where to service it, what to put for oil etc.. Someone who's taking care of their bike is not necessarily someone who waxes it every week. But it is someone who knows the bike, knows when it needs something and also knows what the bike is for and how to use it.

I believe by talking to the seller, you will get a good sense of that.

It's like if MJ sells his Splitfire someday (you never know, with KTM and all..), I want to be there when he's gonna lecture the buyer about how to take care of the bike and about the bike's history hahaha....

Also, you can ask the seller if he's keen on sending the bike to UM for a check up. if you buy the bike, you can offer to pay for that (you'd have to do it anyway, you don;t want to ride a 2nd hand bike without having a mech look at it first) to convince him to do it. Then UM mechanics will let you know if there's any major issue.

Hope this helps :)

i suggest u do a medical check up just for ur fingers.. its probably few millimeters shorter than its original size! (that was a compliment btw)

admire how much u type each day!!

i dislike typing.. i wish there was machine which auto typed out my thoughts.. :p

depends on the version and age of the bike

yes UM will be slightly more expensive

but they will check the bike, service, touch up the paint work, wash before putting it up for sale...

which i think is ok since they do it up for you
