Hi guys!

The mechanic at UM told me something about reboring something in my engine (I think I heard carburettor somewhere in the sentence as well) apparently to prevent a certain piston valve from overheating which he says happens quite often in Pulsars. He told me it would reduce the fuel efficiency of the bike but increase the longevity of the parts inside. Anyone has heard something like this before?

just to share, i got into accident, tank got dent, exhaust a bit bent n scratched, box scratched n the holding bars bent, etc. till now still waiting to claim n i can't do much to mod yet. this is my case n in bad shape, it dont mean i dont take care. (actually recently lack of care from me, lol)

does any bike that went thur an accident dont suffer damages? is there such a "tank bike" that can survive without scratches?

for internal, every bike needs eo, chain lub, wear n tear parts. it's the same. at times i forgot my eo changing cycle n it's still running, ever saw an oil change that's super black, after change still running fine, owner got lecture from mechanic btw. do ur necessary n ur bike will serve u good.

Wah arthur..tis is like ur 2nd accident in a year rite? Or mebbe 3rd i didnt count..aniwae..vehicle damaged nevermind can replace..as long u nt damaged can liao..thank god for dat ;)

I dont think it is his 2nd accident. He is talking about his old accident. He is telling that he has still not fixed his bike because the claim is still not processed.

Hey guys,

When do you know that it is time to change your chain? My phantom, when I bought, the chain was really dry and some links were really hard and rusty. Then I have oil it and have tightened the chain. Right now the chain seems to be ok but if I hold 2 links and try to move them horizontally then there is some movement. The chain along the rear sprocket doesn't seem to fit tight. I can actually press it and it moves a bit inside-outside so the links seem to have stretched a bit.

I am not sure if I have explained properly. But these are the symptoms. Mainly the links have stretched significantly.I do hear some noise while riding, but its not excessive. So should I change the chain and sprocket or just live with it?

anyone knows of a red pulsar rider who works or study at SIM? im seeing one while going to school here and then. =) red pulsar. duno ug what. duno 180 or 200. didnt pay much attention.

the way i try to find out whether a pulsar is a member of the SBT is by checking out the sprockets. hehe. cos i think that most of SBT members have sinnobs. hahahaha.

saw a KTM duke 125 too in school!

anyway. i forgot whether i told u guys that i tried out my friend's 125. SIGHHHHH.

pulsar's speed really hands down. =)

ktm is a powerful bike i think. as the only other few bikes i ride were yamaha spark, and BBDC's school bike. hehe.

really really. i only wish my pulsar had that kind of power and speed. but the comfort wise, i think pulsar owns. i prefer pulsar's seat quality and sitting posture.

thats all! nites guys!

hope this info helps ....

"To test for this kind of elongation, attempt to pull the chain away from the rear sprocket at the back center. If the chain can be lifted to the height of the top of the sprocket teeth on any brand/model, then it is elongated enough to need replacement as soon as feasible and is causing undue wear. For most street-oriented motorcycles, replacement limit is around 1.5mm of play when measured like this (i.e. - being able to pull the chain 1.5mm off the rear center of the rear sprocket)." ....

http://www.motorcycleanchor.com/clips/ChainGraphic4.jpg

"FAILURE ANALYSIS:

The picture above is an example of a chain that is failing at 7800 miles, although it has not reached it's elongation limit by a far shot. Specifically, the chain has the following problems:

The red color close to the seals on the exterior side-plates is the sealed bearing lubricant normally used to lubricate the rollers. The seals are leaking, so the lubricant leaks out and dries into a red powder (red coloring is common to most chain brands, but not all; it's the clay carrier that is part of the lubricant package);

If you look closely at the seals themselves, you'll notice what appears to be lengthwise grooves in them; this is caused by using too hard a bristle during cleaning, one in which the material of the bristles was harder than the materials in the seals;

The inner side-plates are not aligned evenly, meaning that the lowest link in this picture is already compromised beyond the point of failure;

The rider said he diligently cleaned & lubed his chain every 400 to 600 miles. Based on what I see, he should have cleaned less and lubed more.

WHAT TO DO:

Replace this chain immediately! Failed seals cause chains to bind and break, putting the rider at risk. ...... " (source: understand motorcycle chain)

hahaha! well. i bought the bike for 1.3k :)

i estimated i would have to spent close to $600 to touch up on the footpegs,seat,rag,meter, bla bla bla bla. quite a no of stuffs. and the top gasket i think leaking? which i check with UM cost only $35. overall the engine is quite good. changing gear seems fantastic.

i guess, im still saving. cos most shops are selling machine for $2.3-$2.5k fba. thats what i noticed :)

anyway guys. i saw the post on upgrades. pulsar got upgrades? seriously or joke?

hahaha. and what are the things i need to take note of? the air filter? what do i change to ? the stock or is that any that you bros can recommend?

i will not call it upgrade or mod...

more of enhancement...

yours is UG2 so there are some you can't fit...

you can change the ignition coils,sinnob sprocs,hurrican xcs stab/exr stab,tdk surge protector/spark booster...

UG2 cannot fit protec air filter(there is 1 guy who cut his filter to fit if you want) but there is k&n filter but no news if got stock in singapore...

also some cosmetic ones...

aluminum hand guard with led light...

can DIY oiler,hazard lights...

Duke moves with low RPM and easily to balance for it's Low CG. On high RPM, 8k and above (13k max), it operates differently. It's not a apple to apple comparison with Pulsar as the latter it's a great all rounder especially a commuting workhorse. Yes, Pulsar 200 is better handling at speed exceeding 100kmph for that it's heavier.

Then again, most important of all ride safe, not cheong and cheong!
