1)is there any fairing possible to equip to p180 like sp?

In India, maybe yes. Here, no. Even if can, dun forget gotta go for inspection. 1st & foremost, the Pulsar is a naked bike. If u wanna spend $ putting full fairing on a naked bike, might as well buy a sportsbike.

2)which sprocket is best for riding on exp way frequently?

Pulsar's stock sprockets are 15T front & 43T rear. To have better cruising/top speed (at the expense of pick-up speed), change to front sprocket with more teeth and/or change to rear sprocket with fewer teeth.

3)im 20yrs old and p-plate, if i were to get p180 the insurance for 3rd party is appro how much?

No idea. Gotta check with motorshops, or insurance co., or other riders who are 20 yrs old and p-plate.

4)getting a 3rd party insurance better or 2nd party(3rd party fire and theft) insurance?

Of course 2nd party better cos of more coverage. But gotta pay more for it lah. For hire-purchase, minimum insurance is 2nd party.

5)p180 on shop now mostly is UG3? or there's still UG1 and UG2? im afraid of getting cheated by the bike shop if i juz told them i wan p180 and i don't know how to see the difference between them.

There's no 1st-hand UG2 in shops, let alone 1st-hand UG1. Dun think there's any 2nd hand UG1 either. UM might have a few 2nd hand UG2.

To tell difference between UG2 & UG3, look at the meter console. UG3's is digital, UG2's is analog. If from a distance, look at the tailboard. UG3's is sharp. Anyway, I dun think any bike shop dare to cheat u on something so obvious lah.

6)where can i get the cheapest p180? getting 2nd hand better or 1st hand?

For 2nd hand, buying from pte owners is usually cheaper than buying from shops. As for buying from shops for either 1st or 2nd hand, u gotta make some effort lah by checking out the different shops. My advice is just buy from UM lah.

If u're upgrading to 2A bike in 1-2 yrs' time, then just buy 2nd hand. If u buy 1st hand then sell it 1 yr later, u lose a lot cos depreciation rate is highest in 1st yr. If u intend to use for more than 3 yrs, then better get 1st hand.

Roadrunner ... the best piece of FAQ answered..! Thanks for the informations given.. it seems our friend milktm knows alot about specs... I must learn from him.. can i ??

I don't really know about specs ... maybe inexperience.. or lack of asking... hmmm

anyway milktm... I've asked David from UM... insurance for "our group age " stands like this...

Insurance for 1st Party is $1309.68, 2nd party is $856.00 and 3rd party is$588.50.

I don't know about the fire and theft thing... but i assume it is..

good luck on your TP then..

The only difference btwn you and me is that.. I've passed nearly a month ago.. and having this urge to get the pulsar... but financially im not there yet.. and its quite irritating.. cause I still haven't get the real feel of "freedom riding"...

anyway..

i use my bike for work purposes.

ive tried VPower from singapore as its first full tank.

Then i went on to SPC RON95 for the next subsequent full tanks untill running in is complete.

After running in was complete i went on to Petronas Primax3.

After a few full tanks of Primax3 (and one warped Diaphagram), I went to swear off premium fuels.

By now the odometer reads over 10,000 km.

Now i only pump either 92 from Esso or Shell (two closest pumps to my work place)

The entire way, i didnt notice any difference in performance or millage.

Except one.

SPC RON92 petrol caused knocking. O.o

Thats very bizzare, since 92 is more than enough for the bike. Maybe its a one off affair, but since then i didnt pump 92 from SPC ever again.

Bro.... why u feel no different is because u neber "wack" ur bike mah... WAU LAU ! cannot everything go by book lar.... i actually forget the most important point.... you neber wack... haiz...:faint:

the test is the same as the diy session where merc put to test the Power abuse. Solar dun feel the different after two round is because he neber wack the bike... where else "I forget the nick" feel the different after a single round of test is because he use to go fast.

same go to sprocket and petrol. if you dun play pickup, you neber feel the different.

bro... feel is not imaginary... it is a fact. you need it when come to riding. riding in top speed, riding in traffic jam... infact "feel" can help to avoid accident also.:thumb:

Sometime thing need not sciencific to explain. or best, Science cannot explain everything.:p

"Feel" your bike.... your bike will tell you if it got problem or not. :thumb:

If the rider cannot "feel", irregardless what petrol you pump into the tank... is all the same. :giddy:

BRO, dun get offended by what i have post. you can do a test on those who travel fast and those who travel normally. you will see a the different.:thumb:

Since you downgraded.... why not this time you upgrade again ? i'm sure u feel the different.

That sounds like me, not liking to whack.

But i have another bike to go fast with. My pulsar is for work purposes now, and it doesnt make sense to whack the bike when i get paid so little, and my orders are so far and few in between.

On weekdays i get paid 80c for sending an order thats in the junction of tuas south ave 9 and tuas south ave 14.

Almost 20km just to go there, and another 20km to get back.

about a liter or so of petrol for that one order. for 80c. and esso RON92 costs $2.15

I think one upgrade that my bike would need is three point grounding. my damned signal lights keep blowing on me. -_-

i have 2 more noob question

1)is installing of light under seat legal or illegal?

ILLEGAL

2)inspection of bike is how long once?

1st inspection is when u've had ur bike for 3 yrs. After that, it's once yearly.

Since you downgraded.... why not this time you upgrade again ? i'm sure u feel the different.

Of course I'll feel the difference - my pockets!

Officially, it's called Third Party, Fire & Theft (TPFT). But since it's a mouthful, drivers and riders alike just called it 2nd Party.

It's not a question of whether u buy 1st hand or 2nd hand. It's whether u pay for the bike in full or on hire-purchase. If u pay in full, u can get watever insurance u want. If on hire-purchase, minimum is 2nd party.

was that me? haha

coz after mercenary fix the power abuser, i whack, can feel ah the difference in pick up. usually that's how i "test stuff". but scared whack so hard later wheelie, i donno how to control liao. haha.

but then ryt, on the topic of fuel, I do feel difference in Caltex Platinum but not so much in VPower. then again, as someone mentioned, it's all about FEEL, no scientific evidence or watsoever to back this FEEL-ing.

bro, may i know which part of the exhaust you're refering to? have a pic to show. thanks

sorie ah bro, slip of my mind to actually take picture of the exhaust. but its the part that connects with the engine lah. (sorie if this is not the exact term to it.)

u need to remove the whole exhaust, then look into the hole. maybe i post a drawing of how the damage looked like. I did look into the exhaust of some of those who cam for the DIY, but none had the damage.

This morning before starting my bike, i had a look at engine oil level which i do every few days. To my surprise, the oil level is empty!!! :giddy: Cant see any oil through the inspection window... Normally its between the upper and lower level, I just changed oil last week, recently never notice any oil leak before riding off... I parked on main stand overnight, so it cant be that the oil does not flow back to the reservoir right? For safety, i didn't ride to office this morning. I dunno now i should go buy and put in oil myself or tow to UM... For your kind advise... Thanks in advance!

maybe some stoopid dumb theft told your engine oil. maybe his intention is to steal petrol but dumb enough, not knowing where the petrol is located.. haha..

anyway you can just pour a new engine oil. should be a problem. maybe also check of any sign of someone open the engine oil cap.

No need V-Power or other premium grade of petrol for Pulsar lah. Doesn't mean feed with V-Power, will have more power.

The octane rating is a measure of the anti-knocking capacity of the petrol. The higher the octane no., the higher is the petrol's ability to prevent engine knocking.

Sports cars and sports bikes have engines with higher compression ratio which results in engine knocking. So they need petrol with high octane no. to prevent this.

This may cause many people to have the misconception that using a higher octane petrol will increase the engine's performance. The fact is, engines perform best when using fuel with the octane rating for which they were designed.

Hmmm, well I think differently for the octane part.Have anyone of you all tried different types of octane level of fuel.

Have you all tried V-power,98 and Caltex techron 100 platanium in Spore?

The feel i got from all 3 since all 3 is the highest grade petrol in Spore. The Caltex techron 100 is the best.Octane level i believe is 100.The higher the grade the different kinds of additives are being added to the petrol. The higher the octane level, your throttle response will be much better.Better acceleration.:)

By the way,I did the welding of the head of the exhaust pipe. DEFINITELY better torque and less noisy. didnt actually think of the repercussions of not welding it, but after reading what tony said, can heave a sigh of relief

The inner exhaust or the outer exhaust?Do you mean the inner metal meshing with alot of holes?

bro... to chim leh....

Engine Knocking ??? I dun understand..... care to share ?

Anyway.... this what i pump & tested and feel...

Normal petrol = pickup not that good, need to oopen more throttle to achieve what i want. MOre petrol burn to reach certain stage, in a nutshell = more power less mileage.

V-power = good pickup, open less throttle to get what i want. Less petrol burn, better combustion = more mileage

caltex Platium = I tested when i hit reserve, pump in 5buck. somehow the engine feel much more smooth. the feeling damn shiok but very ex....

I tested with car also... UL 95, power not there... V-power = power is there, mileage is there also...

But ONe thing for sure... I neber pump caltex in JB.... the last time i pump for my car.... totally can not make it.... :cheeky:

Bro,you should pump full tank for caltex Platinium techron 100,you would love it.You may even get addicted to it.

That's the thing. It's a FEELING. Such things need to be substantiated with hard data from scientific tests, not from guts and feelings.

Fairer method of test using guts and feelings:

Get someone to fill up ur bike with 2 different grades of petrol from the same company on 2 different occasions without u knowing which is which. Then u test ride and see whether u can tell which is which.

:cheeky:

I didn't say we CANNOT pump premium grade petrol into Pulsar nor that we MUST pump this grade or that grade of petrol into our tanks. Wat u pump into ur tank is up to u lah. No prob watsoever in using petrol with higher-than-required octane rating. Just dun use lower-than-required. I'm just saying any increase in performance by using petrol with higher octane rating is minimal or even imaginary.

RON92 is good enough. The minimum for Pulsar 220 is 87!

But I've never tried 92. I'm a Shell loyalist. Not all Shell stations here have 92 so I pump 95. Initially, used V-Power. Then downgraded to 98. Now using 95. To me, no significant difference lah.

Bro,first of all dont be offended of what i am going to say.Just sharing my personal experiences and thinking.I maybe wrong of course.

About science and hard facts makes sense, end of the day its the rider's overall feelings and thinking.I believe actions speak louder than words.Thats why i prefer letting people test the power abuser rather talk too much about the product.I can say until the cow come home and etc.End of the day its the feel, ask Lancer i believe he is quite doubtful of my product until he tried it himself. Why at first he dont feel the difference,my guess is that he doesnt accelerate as hard as some of us.Take for instance the other malay guy,the way he ride.when he came back he immediately says it got difference and mind you the distance he rode is much more shorter than Lancer.

-For the Feeling part of octane for me is true.

-Shell's petrol is good, tried any other brands?

-End of the day its up to the individual's riders requirements

Thanks to all who responded on fuel grade query.

I am a Caltex loyalist though I tried SPC once in a while. When I had Yamaha-RXZ, the difference between 95 to 92 was quite evident. With 92, I had trouble to start in the morning and warm up used to take a minute plus. That wasn't there in 95.

Presently I have 95 in my bike (Caltex again) and will try out 92 from SPC. I will let you all know my experience.

Have a nice day !

FYI got many bad reviews for SPC petrol and its not not cheap either.Maybe for convinience sake?o_O
