Thks for the advise. Currently fitted with fresh tyres after gotten the bike from private. Realise when i clutch in 1st gear with main stand, the rear tyre continue to turn. Not too sure izzit due to clutch housing wear and tear that cause the whirring sound at 5th gear. If it's due to gear box then die liao.. haha.. Haben had chance to go bike shop lately. Haiz.. But then, 800 bucks for overhaulling is way too much for small bike. What did u do then? What are the symptom before overhaulling?

clutch in first gear.. ur rear wheel will of cuz turn.. connected to engine n engine running ma.. ha.. u go higher gear the wheel will turn faster also.. haha.. but as for ur whirring sound.. u can listen to gaban and go UM check.. our bike no doubt overhaul is expensive but its good for ur long run..:thumb:

btw i got 4 diaphragms still hanging in my rm. anyone wants them?

$12 a pc. i brought in 5 @ S$69 after conversion. keeping 1 for myself so other 4 pcs letting go.

Have seem this diaphragm word appearing many time here. May i know what is it used for? How do i know it time to replace?

Posted

diaphragm is found in your carb. it's attached the needle used to control flow out of the mainjet. works by moving up and down depending on the pressure difference caused by increase/decrease in airflow controlled via the throttle plate.

diaphragm can develop holes over time due to wear and tear and degradation. normally needs replacing when you find that you open your throtle to wide open throttle and the bike doesn't seem to respond or accelerates very sluggishly past a certain point. rpm doesn't rise as well. there can be other reasons as to why that happens, from dirty carb causing parts to jam/stick. clutch plate worn, but can tell cuz the RPM is going up but bike is maintaining speed.

in other words, can be a variety of problems. biggest telltale, like above, is whack open throttle, no or low response. low or no RPM increase.

*Disclaimer, information is my personal knowledge, anyone have different ideas regarding the symptoms, please do add on.*

edit: btw, lindavw's price is way lower than UM. Good to get if you wanna play safe. Buy and then ask UM to wash carb for you, then just replace the diaphragm at the same time.

Smile! Tomorrow will be worse.

aint washing the carb = top overhaul?

Sport fishing, strictly catch and release!

no, washing the carb is a simple procedure. the carb is outside of the engine casing. between the airbox and the engine casing. the funny looking thing with a semi-circle bottom. mech will just take it out, open, remove the parts, wash and clean with petrol then reassemble. have to do once in a very long while because petrol can leave behind a varnish.

u mean the 2 pilot light or the plastic covering the pilot n main light?

if it's pilot light, need to disassemble the whole head and chg the bulb.

if the plastic cover, it's glued to the whole head. if u really want to chg, just stick some color plastic sheet over. but be warned, u sure get summon if spotted by tp.

Accident can happen anytime, anywhere.

However ask yourself, do you want to fall at 120km/h or 60km/h?

i didnt know they can develop holes

usually lost of power is due to the rubber expanded. higher octane of fuel cause the expand faster. usually when it has expanded, it's time to change. but if it's holes, i dont know what will be consequence, fuel will be leaking thru, perhaps causing major damage.

yep, it can, due to various reasons, including careless replacement of the carb cover, and pinching the rubber. if there are holes, no harm done, mainly no response. the diaphragm just seperates a low and high pressure area.

http://www.bikerenews.com/Stories_Archives/Carburetors.html

look at CV carb.

low pressure above it causes it to pull on the slide and needle.

so if got holes, airflow will equalise at a certain pressure, then you'll find that the slide won't rise any further. therefore, constant rpm no matter how much further you try to open the throttle.

best 2 leave ur bike der for 2-3 days or more so d workmanship would be better. dat time it took me a week to overhaul mine. i told d mech to take his time. wen i got my bike back, i tested it n felt sooo happy i danced around like a monkey. well, i lied abt d dancing part.:angel:

Thanks everyone for adding comments for the BTMO, I went with your suggestions and updated the timing.

MJ I agree the route you suggested is nice :thumb:

...

I'm also worried that my rear break isn't really powerful enough, is that normal ? I think it was responding much better before, now I press down the brake with my foot all the way, 1st gear and I can still move - I noticed it today, only once so I'm not really sure.. Maybe I'm just being paranoiac over little things !

As they have all mentioned you can tighten your rear brake easily. Do test it after tightening in the car park. Do note that having a pillion and without a pillion affects the rear brake. I once tightened to a point where it's ultra sensitive and works nicely when I rode on it. Once I pillioned my dad (my weight or more, should be more :cheeky:) the whole bike went on a permanent braking mode, the rear brake was engaged slightly all the time.

So check the rear brake with a pillion on if you're going to make it very sensitive (and if you're going to be having a pillion).

For overhaul usually it's part of the engine process right? That means replacing the entire 'heart' or partial of it, top block or whatever... Not sure what it means but basically the bike is almost as good as new since the 'heart' is brand new, is that correct?

Safety tips:

Always STOP at the STOP LINE!

Don't rush. You're not racing for a record.

Always look in front, especially when trying to change lanes, the vehicle in front might jam brake.

Don't be easily offended, a**holes exists, mingling with them gets you sh*t.

Tried to calculate just now. From Bedok to Pasir Ris i travelled 106km..:(

Like that servicing how much??
