Hi,

welcome to SBT

curious how much you paid for the bike and how old is the bike?

is your bike still on stock tires?

front suspension i not sure(anyone can comment on this?)

for the rear there are a few options you can look around

a few of the pulsar riders have already changed their rear suspension

our bike is not built for speed. it is built for good fuel consumption & endurance. however it does not mean that our bike cannot go up to high speeds

but in singapore we do not really need the speed and with better speed = higher fuel consumption.

this is really up to individual. wacking/pushing your bike to the hight limit will not only do harm to your bike but also increases the risks of the rider getting hurt.

for bike workshop if for changing of tires/changing of eo most workshop can do it

but for more complicated servicing/repair will recommend you to go back to UM at Bt Merah...

Hi alvin & o'ren,

Thanks for the warm welcome.

My bike is a 2yr old bike, having just clocked 15k on the road. Seems like everything is as original as you can find. As the previous owner told me, nothing has been changed except frequent engine oil. He mentioned that the tire can be slippery during rainy days & advised me to be careful. Must be one hell of an experienced rider cos there's not a single scratch on the bike & kept in tip top condition. So I bought the bike for 2k.

Alvin/O'ren....as I ran through this thread, seemed like quite a number are unhappy with UM & the charges/cost they imposed on bikers.

So I'm actually looking for alternatives....

Would you be able to recommend what sort of tires should I change & how much it costs at your recommended mototiam?

How about the front/rear suspension? any recommended brand besides showa (expensive leh)..... how about the cost..?

I don't mind going into JB if it's cheaper there...

Thank you so much for accepting me into the community....

2K is quite a good deal for a 2 year P200...

we do nag about the prices of parts at UM but that is the only place in singapore which brings in pulsar parts

even if you go to other shops they will still go back to UM to get the parts

like i mention before for basic change of tire and EO can go any workshop they can do

but for makor servicing/repair/electrical/engine parts go back to UM as the mechs there know our bikes better

for tires the front you can still keep to stock tires if you don't want to change

as for the back, most of us here are using battalex. but it tends to wear out faster

cheaper alternative will be IRC tires that UM is carrying also

not as good as battalex but it does its job and $better than the stock ones on wet/slipery surfaces

i can't comment on the suspensions as i am still on my stock ones

y u want to change the suspensions?

Hi Lumberjack I would suggest u go for bridgestone BT39 for front 90/70, rear 110/70 or 120/70 Price will be $200+. This kind of money just spend its really for your safety....

I've skidded a few times on stock tyres at a speed of only 40 - 60, especially on those mental surface like drain cover so be careful get it change asap.

Hi Lumberjack :) To add to my fellow pulsarians input above, daaamn 2k is an excellent price for a P200 ! Congrats ! Was he the first owner ? Do you have to pay installments ? If he was and you paid only 2k for it, you had a great deal, and if the bike is still in excellent condition, well, you're a lucky fella indeed - all the more reasons to be all :lovestruck: with your new bike :) Hey, post photos of your bike here if you can !

I changed my stock tires even before I put my butt on the bike. Being a baby rider, with 0 experience on the road, I didn't want to take any chances (and yes also because because I am a safety nut). I had battlaxe tires installed on my bike, the ones recommended here. I'm absolutely happy with them: excellent grip on wet roads, even when going up/down slopes or taking turns (I don't "corner" but I have quite a few turns and "S" shaped roads from work to my place so I experienced the grip at different speeds (even saw other bikes slip, skid or flinch while mine was super steady!).

I don't think you should pay more than $200, I paid $180 for mine, so it should be around there +-$10 for you- as usual, bargain !

Agree with Alvin, UM can sometimes be frustrating but if it's about something very Pulsar specific, they are still your best bet. I would still pick them for anything that has to do with inside parts or electrical stuff.

JB can definitely be cheaper, but when going to JB, a few things to consider:

- time taken to travel back and forth and customs jam

- safety when going there by yourself (and safety for your bike too)

- you can be chopped on the price there too if they see you as newbie :)

Now if you know shops there, already been there, know your way around and are indeed built like a lumberjack, I'm sure you don't have to worry

Hi Tarwin, by right the stock mirror should be damn damn solid even at 90 - 100, I'm using a KOSO. Quite suay as i bought a faulty 1 and it vibrates like hell, I'll let the old bird guide u on the mirrors, just my 1 cent!

hey Gaban, could u give me a list of problems with ur bike when u travelled to thailand and came back. Is it due to the constant high speed travelling at 90km/h to 100km/h?

I was reading the posts abt the time u went to thailand with nemesis and a few others. did anything happen to nemesis's bike?

Cos i maybe planning a trip next year jan or sth. just want to know more information first. dun wan to spend alot of money overhauling my bike if there's too much problem involved.

The price of the new bike is about 5.8k. Within 2 years how can the bike depreciate by 60%? Either the seller is filthy rich and doesnt care about money or he is ur friend. Heck the COE of a new bike itself is 1.5k. Either ways you got an awesome deal!

Edit: I just read your original, so it was ur friend who sold it to you. That explains it.

Unfortunately yes. Malaysia is not part of Singapore so we need to get stamped when going overseas.

I don't think you'll find something for that price. You need at least $40 for the pair to get something that is of good quality - maybe you want to wait a bit more and upgrade later when you saved enough ?

I agree with what was said, stock mirrors will not vibrate at 70, maybe at 90 and above - when i was using mine I didn't have any problems at 90km/h. Are they installed differently, did you change the handle bar or their position maybe ?

I'm interested too in knowing what can affect the bike on long trips !

I think everyone gets their passport stamped when entering Malaysia. SG are considered foreigners for Malaysia :) But if all your passport pages are really full (with no space for the small MY stamp), then you can renew it, it's easy and fast to do.

Oh Ok. I thought there is some kind of electronic card for frequent visitors to Malaysia. There are many people who stay in JB and work in Singapore and travel to and fro daily. I think they dont need to get their passport stamped everytime. I am not sure though, I just read it somewhere.

The new passport for Singaporeans has a biometric chip which you can just use to scan instead of chop..
