to o'ren.. my exact sentiments about servicing with other bike shops.. but sometimes we cant reali blame them as our bike is just not as common like honda or gilera and our bike manufacturer somehow decided to design the bike just a little different from most bikes.. even our mirror screws were opposite of most bikes and i had to buy an adaptor to fix my mirror.. so.. chill out and we'll have a great evening tml!! :cheer:

to kira.. the pic of alvin is hilarious to me.. haha.. :cheeky:

Yeah, I quite like that picture as it was taken with no preparation.

:) enjoy tomorrows trip.

hey guys anyone here can explain to me:

1) when i buy a 2nd hand bike, does it sometimes include insurance from the previous owner?

2) insurance for pulsar 180 p-plate around how much?

3) can i get an experienced rider to buy the insurance for me? den i ride. any taiji will the bike still get insured?

thanks pulsarians!

1) no it does not unless the previous owner adds you to be the sub-rider which is unlikely. normally the previous owner will not let you be the sub-rider unless he/she is your relative/very very good friend

2) pricing depends on which company you take, what coverage and are you paying full amount/installment(new bike)/COI(2nd hand). normally if new bike buy with installment shops will want you to take min 2nd party which is range from about $800+ to $900+ for p plate. i think if 2nd hand COI the shop may also want you to take up min 2nd party coverage(depending on shops)

btw currently there is still no stock for 180 UG4,if you are looking for new bikes.

3) yes you can do that by adding as sub rider and he is the registered owner of the bike but his premium will also go up cos you p plate and if anything happen you will still be covered as you name is inside as sub rider.(Make sure that your NAME is inside the insurance if you do this as bike is not the same as car. car can the name not inside but still drive but bike in SG cannot)

BTMO 14 AUGUST 2010

This month , just like last year we will gather to make a TAA donation at the Tajoing Katong Complex and meet up with fellow bikers from the Phantom Group :thumb:

What is TAA?

About TAA >> History

Tabung Amal Aidilfitri (TAA) Trust Fund, or Hari Raya Charity Box, was founded in 1992 with a mission to help the poor, needy and less fortunate Malay/Muslim community during the holy month of Ramadan (fasting month).

The idea was first mooted by the late Dr Tay Eng Soon, the then Senior Minister of State for Education, who had suggested that Malay/Muslim organisations could organise a public charity drive during the Ramadan / Syawal season as an annual affair

VISION

To provide financial assistance to disadvantaged families

to enable them to celebrate

Hari Raya (Aidilfitri) with dignity.

MISSION

To foster the spirit of giving in our multi-racial community,

especially during the month of Ramadan,

through various fund raising activities and programmes for the

benefit of the disadvantaged.

Many people come to this thread to ask about which bike shop to go to if they want to fix something on their Pulsar or repair/service it.

We usually recommend UM and people often ask us why or they say they prefer to go somewhere else because they heard that place has good mechanics. We then usually say, well, UM knows the bike like no one else in SG so it's your safest bet.

I have some recent experience to share with you guys to sustain this point of view:

- Installed a voltmeter lately: the guy turned off my auto-cancellation of signals so I had to go back for them to make it back the way it was, and now I don't know what they touched, but it cancels much faster than originally. I turn, right away the signal is canceled, it's now too sensitive.

- Changed my brake line : Now my brake is very loose. I could've told them to tighten it more, but honestly, after 1.5h spent there watching the guy try his best, I just did not have the heart and energy to ask for touch ups. And I have no idea what kind of brake fluid they put there, is it DOT3 or 4 or what brand. By the time I thought of asking, it was all done and I just didn't want to be disappointed... But I think when people do things to your bike, they owe you communication and clear explanations.

- Changed my stock balancers and hand grips : no problem with the left one, but it took the mechanic more than 1 hour to fix the throttle one. I kid you not, ONE HOUR. It was quite painful to watch: at first the grip was too tight on the handle bar and the throttle wasn't released when turn fully. Then he oiled the handle bar, put the grip back, still not releasing the throttle when you let go of it. Then he took sand paper and sort of worked the handle bar, then put back the grips, then only the throttle would come back to position when fully turned. Then when he went to close the throttle box, it was too far away from the grip, and the box didn't close well, I could see a space. So I asked him to redo it. Then after that when I tested it, I turned the throttle, the grip would take the throttle gear box with it and turn it too! So redo again. At the end, I had to leave, but now I have a very loose grip, so it turns too fast when I put my hand on it, and it's literally sliding from the throttle gear box to the balancer (there's about 0.5cm of space there).

The other problem I have is I don't speak chinese nor malay. So sometimes there's ZERO communication with the mechanic possible as they don't speak english. So they have to call someone to come and translate to answer my question or understand them. It's now becoming very painful for me because although I'm not particularly interested in mechanic stuff, I do want to know what is done to my bike and why, I want to understand how it works, I want my questions answered and I want to be able to ask anything as it comes to me and explain my opinion. But girl + doesn't speak chinese = nevermind she doesn't know anything. And yesterday I realized I just didn't have the energy after a long day at work to try to get my newbie questions across.

Even if the staff is trying to help and very nice, it just doesn't work, and at the end, I come across as fussy (Fussy Ang Moh, that's me!) or just too newbie to understand. I feel like a blonde, and that's a lot to say.

So, as much as I would like to find a shop that can take care of my bike without trying to charge me more than the right price, and as much as I want to give different mechanics a try to see which one will take care of my bike well, I can't tahan anymore the feeling that some of them just NEVER touched a Pulsar before and just go blind and do things without experience.

OK changing a handle grip is common to all bikes, but see, they struggled with my throttle gear box (when it looks really easy) and I think it's because they never tried to fit these grips on a Pulsar before. And it's horrible to have this feeling that the mechanic is doing things on the bike on his gut feeling, I don't know if you've experienced this before ? When you can tell by looking at how the guy is searching for the screws and bolts location, that he's just figuring things out as he's working? To see my bike in such hands is just pure heart pain.. I'm not saying they're not professionals, they are, but they just do not know the bike.

It's like giving your brand new phone or gadget to a kid: he's gonna figure it out because you know he's damn smart and like to do that. But you're constantly worried he's gonna drop it or do something bad, without realizing, even though he is full of good intentions.

So yes, you can go to any bike shop to do the above or to do normal servicing. But after experiencing first hand these events, I would recommend UM even more. Regardless of their pricing policy - and I say that openly knowing they will read me - (Yes Jason, I know you lurk around :) ) that puts me off sometimes. I'd rather give my money to specialists who are not training on my bike, and who actually developed a real knowledge of the bike and will not only be good at troubleshooting it, but also at communicating and explaining the bike to me because they actually care about the bike and know exactly how to work on it.

Hope this helps fellow pulsar riders.. I might just be having a series of bad luck and my case can be isolated. But I did 3 bikeshops and the 3 gave me the same feeling that they didn't know what they were doing when it came to working on the bike. And I went for very simple things that are very basic, nothing complicated.. so for me, my mind is set...

Totally agree, I got my grip and balancer done at W.Y at amk, left grip was fast nice and neat, the trottle oso took an hr with alot of grinding. As he grind i felt the pain of my wife, quite horribily done with 2mm space from electirc start.

But sometimes when i go UM to install or do something they recommand me to SENG motor which is their sibling shop....which i die die will never go there.

I think it's probably because they're very busy and don't want to make you wait - must try to go when less busy, morning and lunch time maybe ?

I went there yesterday after work: They fixed everything ! :cheer: :cheer:

My grips are now perfectly fitted, my brake and gear clutches are tightened and they saved everything that was not done well by other mechanics -> :thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb: (And it took them 5min to fix the throttle grip..no comparison with that other bike shop where they fought with it 2h :dozed:)
