Sir, what's the purpose of WD40? Someone told me must use WD40 to lubricate throttle cable and all other nuts and bolts. True? How often?

And any of these used for cleaning chain?

yes .. you can used WD40 for lubricant but it is just a temporary measures cos WD40 dries up very fast. It also used for loosen up tight bolts and nuts.

I used that to clean my chain and sprockets during bike wash. WD40 does not damage any O ring if you are using O ring chain as many people claims and thoughts. Since kerosene can be used for cleaning chains too, WD40 contains kerosene too. The only flaw that WD40 has is that the oil dry very fast, That is why it is not suitable for lubing the chain but being said that too , there are also WD40 fan still using it for lubing the chain and claims it did not damage the chain.

Whatever it is, it is still better to use for lubing no doubt it is just temporary measures rather that not to or lazy to lube at all.

As for me as mentioned, I cleaned my chain and sprockets with WD40 first before I wash and rinse with water. Once the chain clean and dry, I will lube with either Holts chain lube or now I since I DIY my Oiler, I lubed and oiled with my DIY oiler.

Oh .. for rusty bolts and nuts, one way is to change them for stainless steel one suggested by our previous pulsar rider here ..

but for me I just sprayed on the rusty bolts and nuts with Voltronix M10 Anti Seize spray.

Key Features

â–º Constantly stable at high pressure.

â–º Reduce Friction and prevent seized.

â–º Prevent from stress crack on rust steel.

► Working temperature from - 60°C to +1,100°C.

â–º Formed stable sturdy film.

â–º Excellent anti-corrosion agent

But the cons .. it will be slightly messy cos the spray coating did not dry and happens if you touched it .. it is a like a paint.

But yet again .. the cool part to see is when you sprayed on rusty metal parts, you can here the 'seeezzz' sound and 'bubbles' effect and the rusty parts gone like magic hehehehe

My version 3 DIY Oiler ... I LOVED IT!!!!

Alvin > thanks for sharing about the valve and brake fluid reservoir :thumb:

:cheers::cheers::cheers:

mj,

Great job!

oiler tip

But from the pic, the tip looks kinda too close to the sprocket for comfort.

Will it get dragged into the sprocket. Just basing from the pic view only.

Is it safe to ride with the red light on? Mine is lit up almost all the time and I just ignore it now.

The meter is totally bonkers. The fuel gauge can go down to 2 bars right after I ride out of the petrol kiosk after topping up a full tank.

Sam goes here. My fuel meter oso bonker. Red light on but open tank still can see my petrol still high.

Wah, thanks a lot for this ! I see what I'm missing, some heavy degreaser !

What is the Tyre Foam for

This is what I have :

http://img707.imageshack.us/img707/9581/47957448288e5e483721b.jpg

[Turtle Wax] Chrome polish And Rust Remover (I use it on the exhaust pipe mainly, but also the break disc and handle bar sometimes, or on rusty bolts if I spot any)

[Turtle Wax] Rubbing Coumpound (Used on scratches if any, anywhere on the bike)

[Turtle Wax] Wax & Dry (I use it after the bike is washed and rinsed, while still wet spray and then wipe with clean cloth)

[black magic] Tire Wet (I use it on the tires after the bike is dry, wipe with cloth to avoid tire being slippery. Gives a long lasting shine and keeps the tire black not dusty)

[black magic] Engine Shine (To degrease and clean engine or greasy parts. Spray, rinse with water)

[Holts] Chain Lube (after the whole bike is clean and most of the water dried off, I lube the chain. I also lube it after a long ride or riding in the rain)

[MAXIMA] SC1 (I spray it EVERYWHERE except the tank and wheels)

To wash the bike, I got myself a portable washer:

http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/878/mcor35fronthose.jpg

It runs on a rechargeable battery or can be hooked to a power socket or car socket.

The container is removable to go get water from the source , then you plug it back and voila, you're set !

Cost me $110 USD (retail price $199 USD)

So if I get the pod + lights, I only have to hook the 2 together, then connect the pod to the battery + and - , is that correct ?

Tyre Foam similar like your Tyre Wet (oh .. TW I still have half a bottle left), the good thing of TF is that you just sprayed and leave it, the tyre will shine itself once the foam clear. Good for lazy and old ppl like me hehehe

Lanzer > yes I purposely placed close to the sprocket. This is because I'm using sinnob. I did explained to Alvin, why the need to place the tip close to the sprocket too. If you observed the Scottoiler tip, it does not place on the chain but on the sprocket itself (see pic). This is because of the centrifugal force by the wind when travelling. Similar principles with our DIY oiler, if the tip is too far from the sprockets, the wind will blow away the droplets oil and will be scattered all over and not fully drop on the chain.

MJ, I think I will wash again the bike this WE Sunday maybe. But you don;t need to wait for me to wash, just drop by I can lend you my products and the portable washer to try on your bike ! And after that, kopi I promise no more orange peachy stuff to drink

Really like your Oiler btw, both yours and Alvin I think are great, excellent job: you guys should open a shop "UM 2" :cheer:

Friesplit without head is a bit heart breaking, but the pictures are very interesting, didn't think the cone was something like that. In french we call that a "Ball Roll" because of all the tiny little balls that help with the movement.

I think I will change my oil to the one you're using next time I do the servicing, usually my oil gets out very dark when they purge it, while yours is still very clear..

Ok thanks, and can I add a switch to only turn them on when I want ? Would that be too complicated or add more stress on the battery ? (I have a feeling this is a very silly question somehow..)

I don;t think they are illegal. It's not like they're used as source of light, and they are tiny not big enough to blind someone coming opposite traffic, so my guess is they should be fine.

For those who want to have a closer look at the fenders MJ have kindly helped us get, I took photos when I went to UM to have them installed.

The rear fender had to wait until the mechanic fought against a very tight bolt at the suspension to finally manage to get it out to put the hugger in place.
