Hey all,

I need some help in buying my first motorcycle in Singapore. I have been in singapore for almost 2 years now and am planning to buy a motorcycle soon. I have six years of riding experience, hence am looking for a powerful motorcycle to start off with. Also, I'm planning to give class 2A a pass, hold on to my 2B motorcycle and wait till i can buy a 600 supersport. Therefore, I need a motorcycle that I wouldn't easily grow out of.

I have narrowed my choices down to two. The Aprilia RS125 and the Honda NSR 150 SP.

I earn a fixed salary, therefore I would prefer to buy the bike on EMI (called COI in singapore? )

My first question is, if I am to buy a used motorcycle (the NSR), will I be able to get it on COI?

As for the Aprilia, I would prefer to buy a brand new one. If anyone here has bought the same on COI, please let me know if the monthly payments will be between $200-300. Anything more and it'll be a bit hard for me to afford.

Lastly, the most important question. I understand that the RS125 comes off the showrooms in the restricted version (15 BHp). Is it legal in singapore to de-restrict the bike to its full power? If not, it'd be a waste for me to spend such a large sum of money on a 15 BHp bike.

Also, I'll be extremely grateful if anyone can suggest reputed dealers for the two bikes.

Thanks everyone in advance. Hope you can clear my doubts. :)

If you are buying from a shop, you can pay by COI (carry on installment) for any bikes. Private sellers usually prefers full cash payment. A shop will ask for a downpayment, to cover admin and insurance fees. It is advisable to downpay as much as you can, so that the monthly installment fees won't be too expensive due to interest.

The newest RS125 here cost about SGD13K, just downpay a good amount and it should offset the monthly to less then $300. Am pretty sure the RS125s here are not restricted like the ones in the UK market, so you don't have to de-restrict them.

Thanks a lot, mate. That was really helpful. :)

Just one more question if you don't mind. I know that Gianelli and Arrow make aftermarket exhausts for the RS125. Are there any similar models for the NSR?

There aren't any aftermarket exhaust system for the NSR SP. Well, there are, but non are legal. Should be a SGD700 fine if you're caught riding with an illegal exhaust system (that's sinkapur for youuu!!).

Haha, I'd rather not take that chance!

I've been doing some research for the past few hours and found out that Tyga performance of UK has a performance exhaust for the SP. Maybe that one can be approved on a case-by-case basis.

Thanks again for all the help. :)
