Thanks Nights,

Actually saw this before.....think they are having some MO going on in the garage sale.....

Wat i was thinking was to somehow hide it from obvious sight or use a battery and leave it in the bag or soemthing......

Always thought it was fugly.....just wondering if any custom guru here did anything with it......

cheers

If you are riding a cruiser/chopper, it is almost impossible to find a good and space efficient place to hide your IU. Location to mount your IU is either on your handlebar or crashbar. If your have saddlebag, you could try placing it inside. Detection may pose a problem if you were to hide it somewhere out of view.

PS: LTA is in the mist of re-designing a smaller version of the IU unit.

When I had my IU change at Vicom, the guy saw my P plate pasted on the IU top and told me dont put there cos might pose detection problem, but I've seen so many pple putting it there and also with the IU leather casing, so I think what he say is crap :p

This is true. Reflective material above your IU unit can cause detection problem as the sensor would have high chances being reflected especially under sunlight.

IU cover on the other hand, do not pose any reflective issue thus, no detection problem, but I would not say the same if the IU unit in leather cover is being placed in the saddlebag/box/pannier or at lower potion of the bike.

Hi Bro,

I do agreeds with nights, regarding the reflective parts.

The IU cover will not reflect the sensor but any reflective stickers will, because I have ever pasted a piece of stickers on the IU and at the very day, I have error reading or not reading passing 2 gates. for this, you will have to automatically go to the IU center to inspect your IU or you can wait for a few weeks till the letter for inspecting IU comes. either way you will need to inspect the IU.

can the iu install upside down or upright ?

Upside down may pose a detection prob even though its at a area of clear line of sight.

Just went for IU inspection 1hr ago n thats what e technician told me.

Why four strokes when all you need is two?

What kind of technology does the reader/IU use? It's not magnetic, it's not IR... what then?

Most likely it’s Radio Frequency (RF)

If it's RF then I guess we can figure out what kind of stuff is going to block the signal... i this case you can customise or relocate your IU to any sensible part of your bike.

Assuming it’s RF, no metal in between the IU antenna face and the antennae at the ERP Gantry. The IU antenna face has to point at the direction of the Gantry antennae array in order for a good transmission and reception.

So technically it can be concealed in some plastic container...

Should be no problemo as long as it's plastic and no metallic sticker on the plastic container blocking the RF link.

Our IU is using RFID (Radio Frequency Identification).

Is there a way to mod an antenna onto the IU so it can be stored elsewhere?

Nope. And you would be volating modification of in-vehicle unit.

LTA is currently in the process of planning for the next stage of development of the ERP. Solutions involving the use of GPS and the use of EZ-link contactless RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) cards in place of CashCards are currently under study.

I have an idea, those who fitted side panniers/top box on their bike can actually relocate the IU to mount it at the underside of the lid of the pannier/box.

Looks like there'll be a flood of upgrades to these smaller IU.
