I think this just boils down to discrimination.. Even on expressways there are signs that say motorbikes and slower traffic keep to the left. Why?

I think the management at vivo assumes that bikers go there mainly to hang out and chill with friends and don't really buy stuffs that will exceed $50? Since they charge us for parking, we also have to right to enjoy the redemption benifits right? Either that or just revert to giving motorbikes free parking

To put it short, obviously no one in the vivo management rides a bike. Big shot people what, all drive BMW and their mercs. What for bother about us bikers?

This is my mail to Vivo:

I was a frequent visitor to your mall, Vivo City, until I get disturbed

by your policies for visitors by motorbikes.

Firstly, I was put off by the unfair parking charges. As a working

adult, I'm likely to visit the mall after 6pm to have dinner and

shopping with my friends. Motorcars pay $2.50 per entry after 6pm on

weekdays and $3 per entry on weekend. Bikes pay $1 for the first 3

hours, and subsequent hour or part therefore at $1.

Thus if I happen to reach at 6.50pm to go for dinner, shop and

subsequently catch a 2hr20min movie at 10pm, I would have spent 5hr

30min at the mall. This means that I have to fork out $4 for parking,

higher than a car. This means that I cannot shop at ease in your mall.

If I were to catch a movie, I'd have to time it such that I reach 10

minutes before the movie starts and move out when it ends. I won't have

the time to shop, and to enjoy a meal. A car lot takes up equivalent the

space of 4 bike lots. Why do I have to pay more?

Furthermore your bike lots are situated in locations where a car cannot

park, such as underneath the incoming slope at B2. Thus, you are not

sacrificing any potential revenue from car parking.

Next, on the 9th I visited Vivocity as my friend needs to collect some

stuff from a shop in Vivo. In the process, we decided to go shopping at

Challenger. After 30 minutes, we came out with a bill totaling $141.

Aware of your promotion of 'Convert your spending into cash to offset

your parking', I decided to go and register for this service. I was

directed from the basement service desk to the 2nd floor customer

service counter. After a long queue, when the staff started to process

my registration, they told me it couldn't be done. This is simply due

to the fact that my IU number starts from '0' due to it being a

motorcycle, whereas cars IU no start from '1'. The counter girl cannot

key in my IU number. According to her, she can't do a thing because

management has only offered this rebate for cars. Not bikes.

I want to know why your mall has such a severe discrimination for

bikers. We are definitely not poor and have low spending power. Some of

us decide to ride due to higher convenience we'd get than if we drive.

I, for one, like the convenience and think that a car, which might be

carrying myself only most of the time, would be a waste of resources. We

bikers do eat and spend as well or even better than car owners.

At this rate that your mall is operating, I'm not going to be surprised

that your revenue would drop due to the mass exodus of bikers shopping

at VivoCity. I've seen that at 8pm on 9th Dec that there were only 5

bikes, including mine at the B2 carpark. Such a sight is rare before you

started implementing the unfair parking charges. I should know, since I

used to visit on a weekly basis as VivoCity is on the route home from

work. As the moment, I'd let you know that VivoCity is on my avoid list

since the mall does not value any revenue I'd bring to them. I'd

rather eat and spend at places that are open to my choice for commuting.

This is their response:

Thank you for your email and we are sorry to learn of your unhappiness.

Before setting our new parking charges for motorcyclists, several

factors have been taken into consideration which includes the trend of

shoppers who ride and park at the mall and the limited number of

motorcycle lots we have.

The situation now is that motorcyclists who could not find parking space

before the implementation of the rates, have now appreciate being able

to find lots to park their bikes.

Currently, our Car Park Redemption Scheme is for car owners and thus our

system could only accept car IU numbers as such our Customer Service

Officer was not able to register the motorbike IU.

Please be assured that we have nothing against people who rides

motorcycles. All our shoppers are our valued shoppers.

We hope to welcome you back to VivoCity sometime soon.

Yours sincerely,

Tis fellow replied me with the generic email: enquiries@mapletree.com.sg

I was blowing steam thru my ears when I saw it on sat.... Totally ignoring my questions... I bet I've been to vivo more times than she did... Heck... I used to visit minimum once every week. Sometimes even up to 3 times... You know, food, shopping etc. I was so pissed when I was informed by the carpark registration girl that I lost my appetite... n my whole face was black.

I am thinking of straits times online forum etc.... still planning my alternations to the original email. Not sure I want to reply her email or send to just send to straits times.

Any of you guys got more input for me to add into my mail? Or anybody volunteering to making the letter more perfect?

ur point about bike parking being more expensive than car is already a strong point... which she clearly avoided... and if u notice carefully their replies seem to be like a template.

should we be parking in the car lots since we paying more? lolz

A relationship is like a rose, How long it lasts, no one knows; Love can erase an awful past, Love can be yours, you'll see at last; To feel that love, it makes you sigh, To have it leave, you'd rather die; You hope you've found that special rose, 'Cause you love and care for the one you chose.
