I'm considering between Harley or Triumph. I dunno which make to go for. I'm looking at the entry level of a Harley like the Sportsters 883 or the Triumph's America or the Street Triple 675.

Which model will have a lower running cost like Fuel and Maintainence. Performance wise I think the Street Triple will win any of the models hands down.

I still can't make up my mind to go for new technology or just go and fulfill my dream of owning a Harley.

Hope to hear some comments from you guys!

Thanks for reading this!

Hi minime.

Just my opinion. While harley has been over rated, Triumph is a real work horse. Their entry level is 865CC and is more than enough for road use.

Regarding The "triple" is a real beast and unless you are using to tow trucks then there is no point in having such a powerful bike.

Triumph america is rather normally priced at 22000 on the road, and is cheaper to maintain and petrol consumption.

Personally was taken by it at Mah and even did some research and here is something to share http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/01/triumph/index.html

But hey I am biased coz I don't like harleys so you have to listen to their points too.

All the best

I just love the looks, feel and sound of an old good Guzzi, though it has been around since the time of my Grandfather. I guess "they" don't do things like that anymore! Well it's not true.

"They" still do URALS

Hi Mamduh

Thanks for you input on this will consider the option. I've no doubt about Triumph being a real work horse. It's tough, I know. I just want to put my money on something that's worthy.

If you were to consider resale value, then your choice would be clearer.

Hi Gerald

Harley has a better resale value than Triumph? Anyway, once I've committed to the ride. I should be keeping it for the next 5 years at least.

Hi all

Just like to find out what's the insurance premium for a Harley Sportster 883? I'm 33 this year. Any rough figure will do.

Thanks!

I think it really depends on which style of bike you're looking for; cool cruiser or powerful and unique street bike...its your taste, none of us can really help you make up your mind. why not try out the sportster at the HD dealership first?

Hahaha... Yup, I totally. The style of the bike is important. I would like to have something that's powerful, unique and yet be able to go for short trips too. I'm really contemplating. Should I get something that is old in technology yet with many years of proven track records. Or should I go with something with newer mechanical parts and advance engine?

Fengdrew,

You are right about riding a Harley alone.

Hi minime,

You ever considered the Speed Master? Personally I prefer the looks of it over the America. Somehow it looks neater and slicker, with nicer exhaust, nicer rear seat, twin discs in front, without too much chrome to take care of. But who knows? Maybe it's the chrome of the America that you are going after :)

On the other hand, Street Triple is a totally different bike. It's a bike for going fast, not for cruising around in comfort. It's the baby of Speed Triple and Daytona. Like father, like son hehe.

Of course in a perfect world, it would be best to own an America/Speed Master and a Street Triple. Different bike for different mood. :D

hope you can arrive at a decision that you won't regret.

and based on the above comments, if i were to be in TS shoes, i would choose triumph. resale value might be not that much, but since TS has no intention to sell the bike in the foreseeable future, then go with the more hardworking triumph.

ToiléTmaster | Seinfeld is still the best show ever!

Triumphs are more "precious" here in Singapore too .. less than 100 pieces OTR. Harleys are just too ... "over-rated" to me ... oh I hate it when they rev their engines on purpose when circling round the car park looking for space. It isn't nice anymore, it's kind of blunt and rude IMO.

So now the choice is ... which Triumph? :D

hogs are lifestyle bikes, and with the exception of the v-rod, they have had minimal development/improvement to their bikes, when they are compared to the european/japs. Granted they may have "refined" the v-twin, its still not up there technologically as the twins of the other motorcycle manufacturers.

However, as a product/lifestyle/image, they have done a superb job in marketing harleys around the world.

I have owned and ridden a number of marques and have yet to own a hog ( i have ridden quite a few of my friends), primarily as i think they are overpriced for their technology and most bikes can do what a hog do many times better and as such at the moment and not willing to pay for them...that said, i would like to own a road king or road glide someday.

When it comes to buying a bike, there is no right or wrong, everyone will have their opinions. Also assess why you are buying the bike, what kind of riding are you going to do before considering the type of bike you are going to buy.

Finally, buy and ride something that will put a smile on your face when you ride it!

Go for HD since it is your dream to own one, remember to get ready some tools in inches.

Can't really give you any advise as bikes from Triumph and HD are not apple to apple comparison. Know what you want, buy what you like and enjoy your ride. :)
