then the magic hand will enter 474 bids at $6001. The 475 ppl who want to buy a bike didn't get COE this round will then bid higher next round.. COE rises, more ppl bid higher n higher n COE rises to 8k once again. Then govt come in to help by introducing VES on bikes which obviously will impact bigger bikes more, reducing pressure on COE to reduce it to 7k. LOL

If we don't get to buy our bike at reasonable price, we will crash and burn with everyone..:angry::angry:

Just kidding :p

Just like bidding for a piece of paper before being allowed to own ur vehicle, at 1 time it was over 8K for a bike n over 100k for a car. Ridiculous sure, but dat is reality :)

Guys, the last time COE quota available for bid reach over 500 is on Jan 2014. After that, quota for CAT D had stayed at the 300 - 400 range.

The next COE available should also be around 500 as well given the unused COE from the previous bid.

I might be wrong, but still - happy bidding :thumb::thumb:

No need guess, it's 552.

Wow!!! Where you get that figure?

Edited: Hope you are not referring to the current COE as the time I posted that, it was because I saw the current COE quota crossing the 500 mark.

This is the quota for this current bid, not the next 3 month..

This is the link that is showing the quota allocation for Aug to Oct: https://www.lta.gov.sg/content/dam/ltaweb/corp/PublicationsResearch/files/FactsandFigures/COEQuotaAllocationRV.pdf

Even with the link above, its not showing quota of more than 500 for each of the subsequent bids..

The news also released that the monthly quota is less than 1k, how will there be more than 500 for each bid for the next 3 mth? http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/dip-in-coe-supply-for-next-3-month-period

straits time link no longer valid or maybe I've exceeded the monthly quota. Anyway, I think the quota in the link have not added the unused COEs. Let's see the Aug 1st bidding to see number of COEs available.

COE still around 8k level... when will it reach 9?

Probably will skip 9 and go straight to 10. The past increases always seems to do it in even numbers....

No one. Who indirectly contribute to these numbers? I would say probably everyone.

- new bike buyers who don't mind paying

- old riders who renew their bike COE, thus reducing the overall quota

- shop dealers who do the bidding

- policy maker who control the numbers

- the rest who don't complain :p

Hi fellow riders, its the period of COE bidding again. Tomorrow is the result.

Upon hearing about all these dealers' possible practices of hogging COEs and jack up COEs prices and in the end all the end user riders have to pay sky high COE and interest fee for loans to dealers, think something needs to be proposed.

I for 1 do not wish to buy from dealer from now on who practices this. Wanted to get new one but no more, will get 2nd hand bike or prefer dealers who just sell the bike itself. I know its difficult.

It will do our rider community good if all of us can write in to LTA and MOT to voice out the concern of dealers' tactics, like how CEA and MND is now regulating property agents and agencies.  MOT and LTA likewise should start to regulate all motorbike dealers instead of sucking in the COE profit and disadvantaging the rider who really needs a bike.

We can band up as a rider community against all the motorbike dealers and hey we customers are king leh. I think we have more people than the dealers.

What other solutions can we use to stop dealers from jacking up COE prices tomorrow?

Who else bidded for tomorrow's COE?

My humble opinion after reading almost all the posts here.

The high price of COE may be attributed to dealers hogging into stacks of COEs because the dealers lose only $200 for each piece of unused COE, so one suggestion is for LTA to impose higher charges for unused COE, like $3000 to $5000. HOWEVER, it will unintentionally punish individuals who wish to bid their own COE, not many people got  $3000 to $5000 cash to spare.

HOWEVER, I feel the main driver of high price of COE is the HIGH DEMAND for motorcycles. The government has frozen the increase of COE quotas for cars and motorcycles, and with population increase and more IMPORTANTLY, the rise of popularity of ordering food online (it is becoming a lifestyle nowadays, people got legs but can't buy their own food), Grabfood, and Food Panda, these people need motorcycles for the livelihoods.

PLUS the price of cars COE is getting higher, those who can't afford or unwiling to pay for a high price for cars and got bike driving licenses will buy motorbikes instead, further driviing up the bikes COE price.

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Propose LTA

1.reduce dealer unregistered cat D coe holding period from 6 months to 3 months

2.increase the bid deposit amount for dealer to 2000 instead of 200. They won't feel the pinch if they have real authentic ready buyers.

3.limit all dealers combined can only bid for max 40 percent of total quota for that bid exercise, 60 percent for individual. Encourage self bidding.

4. Friends of dealer may lend their nric to them to bid so they may be able to hog more coe. Suggest minimum holding period before individual can sell their bike to resale buyer. Suggest 6 months to 2 years. Don't tell me buyer cannot hold their new bike for 6 months?

I agree that main driver for coe is due to possible huge amount of buyer. I think dealer should not interfere with coe bidding, buyer should self bid so we can then see the real market demand. Correct me if I'm wrong. Probably there are lots of unused coe on dealers side.

This issue can write a full page of report analysis one haha.

Wirte no use if authority don't take in the suggestions.
