Hey, everyone,

With the cooperation with the management of SBF, we've decided to start a SBF donation drive for Mohd Raiyan Shafiq & family.

 

Here's the details:

I have started a list below. This list is updated as frequent as possible (at least once a day).

If you wish to make a donation pledge, post in this thread. Indicate your contact details and amount pledge (for transparency). Please do not copy or quote the entire list into your pledge post.

I or one of the mods helping out will update your nick and amount pledge into the list as well as store your contact for reference.

For those who wish to remain anonymous, you can PM me the details as well as the indication that you wish to remain anonymous and I will add in a nick / name of your preference. However, for transparency's sake, the amount will still be displayed.

 

There is no minimum amount. As Muslims like to say, give from the heart.

 

ALL (100%) of the proceeds will go to the family this drive is targetted to.

No deduction, admin fee or service fee is transacted. This is a private donation drive for the family and what you give is what the family will receive.

 

The deadline has been updated as below.

 

The collection process will be a meetup at a centralized location where each donor can sign on an official list as confirmation of the donation.

This list will be given to the family to show those who have participated and donated to this drive.

The list in this thread will then be updated to indicate the status and final amount of the pledged donation as well as the total amount collected. This is to provide a form of transparency for all donors involved.

That's one half of the intention.

The other is that hopefully the family is able to raise the necessary funds to finance the medical procedures required.

Me and my wife are thinking of something to help spread her message out futher other than via newspaper.

I'm particularly touched by the appeal because the baby has the same name as my own baby boy: Raiyan (mine is spelled Rayyan).

I see the way the boy's sufferings are described, reminds me of my own worries and concern everytime I see my own boy cry.

For two years, Raiyan is bed-ridden due to a serious infection by the virus that causes HFMD.

For 2 years, Mohammad Raiyan Shafiq has been bedridden. He has no strength nor will to play like other kids of his age. To just breathe, he needs a respirator.

 

The only food that he can consume is infant milk that has to be channeled into his stomach via a tube that is inserted into his nose.

 

This fate has befallen Raiyan, aged 3 years, after being infected by the EV71 virus that caused a serious form of Hand, Food & Mouth disease (HFMD).

 

He is understood to have gotten it from his sister whom at that time was attending kindergarten in 2006.

 

The infection has damaged part of his brain that controls the respiratory system, the ability to swallow, digestion, eye movement and heartbeat.

 

Doctors who have treated him at this point have said only a miracle can save him.

 

A glimmer of hope has surfaced recently in the form of a treatment involving the insertion of a pacemaker in his chest to control his breathing.

 

But the treatment will cost between $50000 to $70000.

 

When contacted yesterday, consultant Dr Prem Pillay, who have seen Raiyan, believes that treatment is the only chance he has to be free of being dependent on the respiratory system so he could undergo rehabilitation treatment.

 

"My team and I will be performing the surgery without any fees. The only cost that has to be charged is for the necessary equipments", she clarified.

 

However, Raiyan's family is at wit's end considering the treatment cost which is financially too high.

 

"I almost fainted when told about the treatment costs. But we have no other options at the point. We also cannot bear to see Raiyan suffering," Raiyan's aunt, Ms. Suhaidah Sutarman, 32, said.

 

She, and her younger sister, Ms. Julaidah, 26, Raiyan's birth mother, take turns looking after him 24 hours a day. Raiyan requires milk every 4 hours. Sometimes, his face will become blue when the respiratory equipment suffers a glitch.

 

Ms. Suhaidah currently works part-time at the National Library while her younger sister works full-time at a soccer facility in Jurong.

 

"We honestly say that we do not have enough money for Raiyan's treatment. Because of that, we sincerely hope and appeal for those willing to help us to cure Raiyan. We really hope that he can be cured and live a normal life like other kids," Ms. Suhaidah said with tears.

 

She has also made an appeal for help via email.
