Hi people, recently I just got fine from NEA for smoke emission.

Now I have tried many ways to reduce the smoke but to no avail. Here are some of the things that I have do to it...

1)Smallen 2T pump

2)Total Fully Synthetic Low Smoke 2T

3)Change Engine Oil Seal (Cost me a fortune)

4)Whack my bike 180km/h at 2nd link

5)Use only 870ml of Engine oil on my bike, some say KR cannot take 1Litre

Then recently, I have been reading something about carburator at 'HowStuffWorks'. They say that if a carburator is working not at its fullest potential such as the ratio of petrol in carburator is higher than the air intake that's not recommended, it can cause vehicle to become smokey.

So meaning to say, is it my last resort that I need to tune my carburator correctly so tha I can reduce the smoke from my bike?

Seriously would appreciate any good opinion on how to reduce the smoke. Thanks and may god help you and your bike have a good relationship.

You could ask NEA to show you a good workin condition 2stroke that does not emit any smoke..:cheeky:

Point 5 is true..Never use more than recommended..:nono:

Hi there. I ride a pretty old KR (7-8 years)

Firstly u didnt specify if ur smoke is black or white (or worse, other colour). The reason defers from colour to colour.

Let me try to adress the common causes that i know of..

Black smoke - Fuel to air ratio is wrong ( too much petrol thus incomplete combustion.) need to tune ur carb. I think other causes probably indicate engine problem/damage

White smoke - Too much oil (also known as lubricant). Too much 2T oil? Try tuning ur 2T pump to pump less. (this is partially why i prefer pre-mix). i have this problem too when i add too much 2T.. I think the other reason would be engine case crack thus engine oil leak into the combustion chamber.. (jialat + hong gan).

I not sure a carbonised pipe would produce what colour smoke though :cheeky:

just my 2c, please correct me if im wrong.

Just trying to help

for my premix i do 15 ml/l. and its good for me.

20ml/L still gives me too much smoke for my liking

hi what's premix?

btw i tot 1 bottle of 2t oil can last for 3000km like that? why the ratio to petrol so high(2:1)?

for original fittings, 2 stroke bikes have a 2t pump. it pumps 2t at a fixed rate( i think) to the carb to lubricate the piston.

Since this is a fixed rate, there will be too much 2t at low revs (lots of white smoke) and too little 2t at high revs (easy to piston jam at high spd). thus ppl started premixing.

premix is pouring of 2t directly into the tank to mix with the petrol. this will provide a even mix of 2t and petrol at all revs. partially this removes 2t pump and lightens the bike.. (faster maybe)

for the ratio, i think 2:1 is too much 2t. i go for 15ml/L.

can try shell 2t , the grey color bottle one.

i used it last time , almost no smoke seen...

YEAP! I have been riding kr for 4 years and i must say the shell 2t is among the best in low smoke emission. I use the semi syn one. good stuff and cheap.

my white smoke problem solved already. my 2t intake was too big. you go ask your mech to tune down for you. should be fine after that.

sometimes if ur 2T base plate was modified then u should have smoky bike...so ask ur mech to make it normal back by purchasing a new one.

dun go premix. premix oni make ur bike more smokey.

the purpose of haf a 2t pump is to control ur 2t intake.

for like, when u slight throttle den oni abit of 2t go in.

den when u full throttle, big amount of 2t will go in.

but when u premix, no matter how u open ur throttle.

same amount of 2t go in. n tat even when it is idling.

i haf the same prob wit u, but frm wat i haf seen.

i seldom see kr wit lots of smoke but oni sp wit tons of it.

jus tell ur mech to open ur 2t pump to the smallest n u may wanna decarbonise ur pipe n endcan.

but oni open small when u dun wack ur bike often or ur bike is not in racing mod or jus prepare for the worse.

but if the white smoke oni appear when u jus start ur bike den forget about it.

cause all 2 stroke will produce white smoke when the engine is cold.
