[Technical] Possible Solutions to your Phantom's Problem

Recommended Posts

hi pk's

my phantom is into serious trouble. Engine is ticking, i'm afraid its a bent valve at best, and a ring or two at worst. compression is all going out through the dipstick hole :((

where should i start from?

wat makes u tink ur valves n rings are gone? wat triggered this? a knocking sound or sudden bang? i tink we need more details. if prior to this there was already ticking, possible that the end result is ur cam-chain breaking, and ur valves have knocked into your pistons (bent/broken valve).. in this case, BIG DAMAGE to ur wallet, n i doubt the engine would even run.

a worn ring will only make the engine lose compression, but the engine shud still be able to run.

and wat u mean by compression from dipstick hole? if its air pumping out, thats normal since ur piston is moving up/down and pushing air around your crankcase. best is u can record the sound n let us hear it.

sandpaper will do fine, i did it for my ex phantom also. get varying grit amount so you won't tarnish the metal underneath.

start with the roughest and move on to the smoother ones last.

If its too much work can send it to rudy aesthetics ;)

I'd use a toothbrush and meguairs mag and alu polish.

ok i went to get this fixed, so its just a few dollars to get it done. Just to share a possible solution to the popping sound at the exhaust when throttle is closed, a possible fix is to change air filter.

Another thing, my mechanic diagnosed that my phantom popping sound is cause of the air suction. Which will cause 80-90 bucks. I did not want to change it as its too expensive so he help me block the pipe connected to the air suction valve to temporary prevent the sound. Anyone knows the theory behind it?

Skip your mechanic and get it changed at ah chong at $65. I had that with my phantom too. Whether it leads to other problems i dun know.

I didnt change. Cause ah chong say not a problem as long as the bike still can move. When i close throttle, got the "bop bop bop" sound. I think its similar to yours.

cam tension replacement or cub wash needed :) Ta200 is worth repairing and rider for another 10 years man :)

hi guys is it true that the wobbling of handlebar can be due to us having rear box? cause sometimes on the road i try let go of the handlebar, the thing wobble. ask chong if its steering cone problem or probably just need some tightening, but he say its the box. anyone come across this problem?

Posted

could be your wheel bearings or tyres.

i had wobble on mine when i let go, but after changing tires and wheel bearing, no more.

well what happened is that the bike was working smoothly as usual and then it started to miss, like when you have to turn the reserve fuel valve. And made a frequent tick-tick noise I limped home(about 8km) and replaced the spark plug. idling was at first fine, but after riding a few hundred metres, it did the same thing again and promptly turned back home.

Luckily engine runs but i havent started it since to avoid any further damage, so no broken timing chain!

Monday i will tow it to a locally renowned honda mech. Meanwhile i'm preparing myself for the shock!

Hello friendly people. Recently, I've been experiencing regular jerky movements on my TA200, especially if I go 80km/h and above. The feeling is similar to when the petrol tank is almost empty and you have to switch to reserve yet a split second later, moves forward as per normal. And then the cycle continues for every 50-100m. What can be the cause of this problem?

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Been trying to find the solution to a very irritating problem... When my bike starts cold, there is a 'tick' sound from the engine. It's fine after 5 mins of riding... Recently cannot hear the sound again. Spoke to @byon he told me should be chain tensioner spoil. Anyone knows how much planet will charge to fix the prob? If too ex think I won't renew Coe and scrap the bike. Appreciate comments.

check the spark plug and engine oil level;be careful, could be doing it more frequently the more you use bike. sounds like mine problem
