Yamaha FJR1300, Honda CTX1300 and Honda VFR1200X (DCT)

Hi all,

No, I'm not comparing these 3 bikes, I'm just here to share my dreams and let go my frustrations. He he.

You see, I'm dreaming that there is a bike that possess the best of all these 3 bikes.

I like the CTX1300 style and relax riding position, its audio system, its wide rear tire, low cg and fuel economy.....

I like the VFR1200 DCT, why can't the CTX1300 take the VFR1200 engine and DCT? Are they sharing the same engine?

I like the Yamaha FJR1300 electrically adjustable wind shield, big panniers, lower prices....

I guess I'll need to continue dreaming...

Any views? Please share.....

People ask me, "Why ride bike?" I ask them back :"Why drive car?"

Heyyyyyy. Why are you intruding into my dream. hehehehheh

Why, you have the same dream?

What bike or bikes are you riding now?

To be honest, I just bought a new Vietnam burgman 650, only 2 weeks old...... Haha...

wow. did you sell your old burg? or you had it scrapped?

practically, our dream coincide. out of the 3 bikes, if given the option , i would just chose the ctx1300. i agree the vfr 1200 has that dct but its height and riding posture make me feel very ackward . the new yammie has traction control but I dont know how to use it. give me ctx1300 please for my weekend journey but for going to work , I would love to have a dn-01 or at least just the humble silverwing 400

I traded in my old burg, it still has 1 year COE left. The new burg is more nimble and better fuel economy (5 to 8% better), but it suffers from less under seat storage (about 10 litters less), other than these, they are about the same. In fact I like the old burg digital speedometer.

I'll also buy they CTX1300 if it is available in Singapore. I like the relax sitting posture and big and wide seat and rear tire, must be very comfortable for long distance touring, but I want a DCT (important for me as I've not been kicking gears since 13 years ago after I passed my class 2, haha), it would be even better if it has 6 gears, electrically adjustable wind shield, bigger panniers.....

Do VFR and XTX share the same engine?

From what I read VFR and CTX do not share the same engine but the DNA is there. I remember in 2008 when it was first announced that Honda would produce a totally new VFR but with shaft drive. I was so happy and dreamed of buying. But in 2009 when it finally came out and reading many magazines and online comment, I was disspointed. when it finally landed here, I never thought about it.

I also am wondering why wouldnt they install DCT on the CTX. But with a few problem arising from the new African Twin with DCT, I hope they can solve the problem within the next few years.

You mean the new Burg650 is made in Vietnam?

No lah, make in Japan, it is a typo.

Heated seats and grips in the new burg are useless in Singapore.

If CTX1300 with DCT every comes to Singapore, how much do you think it will cost? Hope it is not higher than S$40k. (ST1300A already S$38k, with manual tx).

the price of CTX is around i guess. I spoke to a few people who said if Boon Siew dont bring in, then we can actually ask certain bike shop us to bring it in for us. I suspect the price will be slightly more than.

Rode a FJR 1300 (Gen 2) back in 2006. Clock ~48,000km in less then 10 mths with no complaint.

During that period I made numerous trips up North. Of all my rides till date, the FJR is my favorite tourer. It is Fast (no prob cruising ^200kmh), Comfortable (cleared NSH into Thailand in comfort), good FC (local 20km/l, NSH 18km/l), sufficient luggage space (enough for both wifey & me) easy & low maintenance (just simple EO & filter change every 8000km), nimble (splitting lane same same like my Sparks. 👍
