Hi fellow riders, ask u a question regarding the clutch lever for the FZ1.

Recently, the freeplay/ travel on the clutch lever on my bike feels abit too much, resulting in the engine dying off in 1st gear/ during moving off.

So i adjusted the lever freeplay to about 1.5cm as per the owner's manual.

My questions are a few, actually:

1. We adjust the lever freeplay as per the manual (give and take), but length of the biting point is actually more or less fixed, right?

Meaning, the adjustment is only for the lever freeplay.

We are not able to lengthen the biting point of the bike, other than to release the lever slooowly and reving the engine.

2. The biting point of the FZ1 seems to be rather short, so gear changes are quick and snappy. Cannot really drag the clutch changes. Cos sometimes I feel like dragging the lower gears more after moving off, round a gentle corner, rather than upshifting too fast to a higher gear at low speeds. Anyone feels the same?

3. How long does the clutch lever usually last for Fz1 for a normal user? Any indication to know when it about to go?

Thanks!

Look at your clutch adjuster and imagine that it's a bottle cap that you screw in and out.

Clockwise = screw in, clutch will feel slack, biting point goes in. You need to clutch in all the way to disengage.

Counter-clockwise = screw out. Your clutch lever will go outwards, biting point also goes out. U only need to pull it in a little bit to disengage the clutch.

Of course, don't adjust it too far out. I did it once to get a fingertip biting point, but the tension of the cable at the clucth casing end became too slack, and the entire cable dislodged from the clutch connector down there with a big *SNAP*.

I had to struggle at the roadside to reattach the clutch cable with my bare hands. LOL.

Your lever should feel springy somewhat. If it feels dead or loose like mine did after adjustment, it's time to change your clutch cable.
