tank bra will scratch ur tank, if you dun frequently take out and clean. As small stones or something might have gone in between tank bra and tank, if never take out, movements and vibrations will den scratch it...

are u all refering to the booklet of servicing records from yamaha?

If it is, you will only receive it from yamaha after u go to the first servicing. I got my bike from Asphoon too, and I collected the booklet there.

Hey Guys,

I'll consider myself a newbie, so be nice.

history

I've been riding a phantom for 2 years now, and i'm on my way to get my class 2. I've also have some long-distance experience, rode my phantom to malacca twice and to KL once (three ass breaking moment, don't ask why).

So i'm planning to get a new bike.

Essentially the new bike has to meet the following needs

1. Commuting

2. Occassional Long-Distance

3. ABS-Ready

Two bikes come close, to my decision, a Fazer 600 S2 ABS or a Super4 VTEC.

1. Commuting

Currently I commute mon-fri from AMK to Buona Vista. But in the next 6 months to a year, i plan to commute from JB, via the 2nd link. So anybody who's got experience in riding class 2 bikes up and down the 2nd link every day, do let me know. Most bikes are kap-chais or super4s.

(this is the part i need some advice)

Other questions that come to mind under the topic Commuting,

a) Is it easy to park a Fazer? - I'm 5'4 and sat on one at ASP. it's between a full-tip-toe and on the balls of my feet, when i put two legs down. One leg down shouldn't be a problem.

I can't reverse the bike seated. If i do, it moves really really slowly (compared to my phantom)

b) How does a Fazer compare to a super 4 in terms of commuting? Super4 is 2nd on my list, easy to handle and powerful enough (No ABS though, are there after-market parts/specialists for ABS on a Super4?)

2. Occasional Long-Distance

My hometown is in KL and I'm home about once a month, sometimes twice a month on the weekends. Having a good bike for long-distance, ie keeping to 120kmph comfortably, etc. I think the Fazer easily meets this need, not too sure if the super4 can handle this sort of thing monthly.

3. ABS

As i've said earlier, it's bloody scary when it rains, especially if one commutes everyday.

Super4 doesn't have ABS.

The way i See it,

Commuting - Super4 wins

Occassional Long-Distance - Arguable, depends on how fast you want to go, and i don't speed much (getting older, slower reflexes)

ABS - Fazer 600 ABS wins

So any advice guys? PM me if you think this post is too long.

cheers

i'm too new to comment much too.. but can share wit u the feeling of changing from a phantom to a FZ6. i used to ride a TA200 for 4yrs before i changed to a FZ6 last mth. main diff are, its higher, u wont get the old feeling of both legs on the ground flatly. its heavier, especially when its full tank, but u wont feel any weight once it starts moving. reversing is a problem to me too when it comes to slight slope. i aint tall too. i am only 1.66m tall. so when u need to reverse, please get off the bike to do it.. ^_^ maintenance wise u really need to spare out more damage as compared to TA200 la.. :cheeky:

comparing to S4, i think this part u need those ppl who rode both bikes before to compare. travelling far, u need those bros that went for far distance riding to give u advices. but u :thumb: leh.. can ride TA200 to KL and malacca. i nvr dream of that while my 4 yrs riding leh..

Oil Filter

Gasket

nah washing bike was not done, no big issue to me actually

i prefer to wash bike myself as i know the clothes i use are 100% clean haaa

Think u only need to carefully think thru whether is there the need for u to get the 600cc or u can make do with the 400cc, thou the maintenance cost and renewal fees are somehow pretty close, but if u are not utilizing it den wat for waste the money. touring both the s4 or fz6 have not much of a problem esp when u say u dun really go for the speed... problem bout u unable to full foot on the ground, this is not a big issue u can simply soften the rear shocks if its not affecting u. reversing is a big issue, not jus for u think alot of ppl encounter it. so jus get off the bike and push it.

Machine price alone is abt $18K plus last mth for ABS 09 version.. Non-Abs 17K plus...

as of OTR price with insurance n coe, etc...depends on which shop u getting from.

Best is to ask a few shops for quotes...before u decide...

thanks for the info. Do you have any shops that can recommend?? I was quoted 24k for the following setup

FZ1 Fazer with lower fairing.

Insurance, Road tax, IU included, COE also included.

Judging from your info. I think i has been duped. Any comments?

Hey there bikey, thanks man. But i will definitely be using the machine often, it's a daily commute, and in future JB to SG (30kms+ one way, 60km per day, or 300+km per week)

I don't mind spending slightly more to ensure the bike meets my needs, the regular commute, occasional long-distance and it's a safe ride (ABS).

Thanks. That's nice to know that everyone has more or less that problem of reversing a bike while seated.

some swivel the bike on its side stand to add mobility of the bike. wonder if that's possible for the FAZER, any guys done that on the side stand?

The last I heard, after adding in insurance and sh!t, an OTR FZ1 should go for about 21+ to 22K+. This is of course higher than what I paid for, which is 19K+ OTR back in mid 2008. But that was before the economy went to pieces and the USD and Yen took a hot iron up the ass and shot up.

Your lower fairing.... we're talking about FULL fairings right, and not just the belly pan.... should cost over $1K for sure. So if you factor that in it should hit 23+ to 24K.
