Hmmm, gets me thinking, what is the main disadvantages and advantages of buying from a dealer?

We always associate buying from dealer as worse, is it because they are not willing to neg on the price or something else?

i guess it's deal to the fact that they take a cut, which could hurt your pocket. :)

plus with pvt owners putting their ads up in the ever accessible internet, who still needs a dealer, eh?

Or maybe dealers tend to be too pushy? I'm in a car hunting period right now so I am at lost sometimes when the agent seems to be "encouraging" me to buy over their used car. But in the end I always tell them that I need to think abt it carefully.

Coming back to the question, if the dealers can lie about being private owners, where is the integrity in that? If they can lie about that I don't see why they cannot lie about other things just to attract buyers to get rid of the car and earning the prospect of the sale in the end?

But I have to hand it to these salesman. Their commision is off the mark but the hard work that comes before it is unbelievable. Its a difficult trade to be in...

i also dun understand why then wan pretend as car owner...

1 case i noe was, i called for a 2nd hand car under direct owner, then the owner was actually a new car salesman, he said he helps his customer sell, so put under direct owner lo... lol

but back to the fact tt, be it direct owner or car dealer, as long as its a good deal, host deal and problem free deal, it doesnt matter buy from who rite ?

getting loan is much easier from dealer as they provide in house loan for old cars that are 15 or 16 yrs old. but the interest rate is high. 4.625% - 5.5% P.A.

No more regrets.

Yeah last I heard UOB or OUB is offering 2.6 for brand new cars. Thats a big difference.

This already shows their dishonesty.

Happens all the time, when you call, they will give all sorts of excuses such as selling for cousin, wife, brother, sister, uncle, aunty, grandma, friend's girlfriend. All crap.

Dont deal with such people. Let them rot.

I dont wanna start a new thread so I just place this here. Around 3 days ago, I went to Geylang Serai to shop for Hari Raya stuffs. Went round & round until I bumped onto this car fair. I looked around saw a Mitsubishi Lancer GLX with a premium of $300 plus per month. I got attracted & went closer just to have a look.

Then the salesman approach me & zapped on about the details of the car, how much per month lah, this free lah, that free lah.... When I told POLITELY with a BIG SMILE that I'm not interested, he gave me this stare & said in Malay:

Next time u dont want to buy dont look!

I was shocked by his response & I apraoched the fella again before he got away. I asked him does he need to be that rude to me? He gave me a blank look & say that if I want to complain I can go ahead. My wife who witness the whole thing pulled me away not wanting any trouble..

With due respect, do you think he was making that remark based on racial or wealth discrimination?

Frankly speaking, based on what you said no matter what I think the sales representative has a very poor attitude and I doubt he has integrity towards carrying his sale. It was a good think you aren't interested. Buying from such people will be extremely risky.

When I went for my car purchase at Peugeot and VW, I didn't face such problems. Perhaps this is the difference with the manufacturer or a large agentship against a pasar malam car sales. You were just plain unlucky. And your wife was right to pull you away. Makes no sense to quarrel with the unreasonable sales man.

Seriously bro I'm not sure if his remarks is pointing out at me coz I'm a middle class Malay. I admit its kinda hard for me to own a car but I feel he shouldn't have retort to me like that. Some more I wasn't rude in any way at all.

Just out of kopi talk, I mentioned this case to my boss who drives a Lexus. He told me the same thing as what u mentioned. Its not safe to buy from these pasar malam deals. He told me that next time when I'm ready, its better to buy from the "big boys" (the agents) instead as its more reliable & safer. It might be slightly expensive but at least I will have the assurance that I won't be cheated or most importantly pressure to make my purchase.

This has been a very important lesson for me. Makes me be more careful next time. But then again I believe not all of the pasar malam guys are like that.

See him next time and tell him that you have a 323i at home. Why should you be interested with low end cars.

Part time or not, service giver or customer, I believe in courtesy. You be nice to people, they will be nice. You talk nicely people will respond the same way. All these boils to one word: upbringing.

And I am not the type to complain these losers to authorities or whatever. Doesn't benefit me at all...

I agree. It is not a matter of professionalism now. It is a matter or courtesy. I will never do that to anyone. Someone I detest or not doesn't matter. If one need to use an insult or violence to get his message across, then that person will have a questionable integrity.
