Hi Everyone.

My name is Jan and I'm new to this site. I've been in Singapore for 1 year and working as an IT professional, I always wish that I can ride my dream bike which is Yamaha R1. So I went and signed up in this site and I was hoping to ask help on how to ride in Singapore and also on where to buy and how to buy my dream bike. So I listed down some few questions that I hope you guys and gals can help thanks.

Questions:

1. Is it true that if I apply for a new license in riding a motorcycle I will only be allowed to get a 200cc license?

2. If true? should it be okay to wait and get another license until I am able to get one suited for 1000cc bike before I buy my dream bike?

3. What site can you suggest that can help me prepare in getting a license? like study materials aside from knowing how to ride?

4. How much is the usual price for getting a driving license in Singapore?

5. How much is the usual price for an Yamaha R1 2008 here in Singapore? Do they accept financing?

6. How much is the lowest DP for an R1?

7. If yes em I required for a COE before getting one? I believe in getting a car you need one? so I was thinking it's the same?

8. What is the best store that sells Yamaha R1 for a good price? with good service? any website or phone number?

9. I live in an HDB do I pay for anything if I park it outside? or is it free?

That's all, thank you.

$17 if it's a Multi-Storey Carpark.

:btw: to ride a R1 u'll need a Class 2 license.

tt means u must pass ur Class 2B 1st, then u can ride a bike up to 200cc.

aft 1 yr then u're allow to take ur Class 2A, upon passing u can ride a bike up to 400cc.

then u have to wait for another 1 yr to take ur Class 2.

once u gt ur Class 2, u can start looking for ur R1.

1. If you are able to prove that you have been riding big cc bikes in your home country with ownership certs or the like I believe you can get an exception and jump straight to class 2. Otherwise, you'll have to start from class 2B like the rest of us.

2. I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but its perfectly allowed to take riding and driving licences concurrently.

3. From experience, its not really needed to do so much extra work. As long as you pay attention to the instructors during the lessons you should do fine. Or, you can always ask on this forum.

4. Cost is quite subjective, depending on how good you are and whether you are taking private or school lessons. I got mine for less than $1k, but taking it at the school will probably cost much more.

5. Most, if not all bike shops provide loans for purchasing a bike. I'm not sure of the price, but from past years prices it should be about $22k?

6. Depends on the shop.

7. All vehicles in Singapore need a valid COE. If purchasing from a shop they will usually obtain the COE for you, though it is also possible to get one yourself.

8. Shops that are heavily patronised in Singapore include Bike Production, Looi's and Mah's. Best that you go down and check them out yourself.

9. $15 for open air, $17 for multi-storey carpark. Alternatively, you can park under the void deck and hope no one catches you. Not recommended though;)

Hope this helps!

Thanks for all the help, back in our country I used to ride 100cc to 150cc and a friend told me that 1000cc is no different in handling except for the speed and the gear shifting? In our country, driving license is unified for both motorcycle and car so if I know how to ride a car and don't know how to ride a motorcycle I still have the same license and start learning to drive a motorcycle without having a problem about a different license for a motorcycle. I really wanted to drive one here is it allowed to have my license be converted here? I guess LTA will still have to test my skills right? thank you so much.

Well, your friend may be right but unfortunately our government doesn't think so and its their opinion which matters. I think you can get a 2B licence straight away at best, if you can show them that you used to ride small bikes.
