Hi, i just bought a KVR400X64C25/1G KVR to throw into my current ailing rig.

Previously, was on a 2 X KVR400X64C3A/512 KVR

Problem when i throw all 3 sticks of ram in, i get only 1G of ram.

However when i remove a 512mb ram, i get the full 1.5GB ram.

Is there a conflict? My board is a 4 yr old gigabyte RZ series motherboard.

dude you might want to add me in msn, I have a file which might be useful to you after you install your rams. But let me find where I dump it first

From experience, most likely its the RAM order. For example, for a four-slot motherboard, slots 1 and 3 work together, 2 and 4 too.

I'm guessing the third RAM stick got deactivated because its other pair wasn't found cuz nothing's inserted into that slot.

TIP: While handling RAM, be careful of insertion/release pressure stresses, it being completely inserted, and also ensure adequate grounding. I fried a RAM stick because of improper handling.

EDIT: I see that you bought that gig of RAM with a different CAS latency speeds than your 512s. The former being CL2.5, and the latter being CL3. While it's alright to mix and match RAM, mobos usually have to apply speed step-down compensation techniques to get all of them to work properly and to avoid system crashes, and maybe automatically deactivate those that can't be used. That may be the contributing factor to your problem.

My MB ram only runs at 333mhz

i found out my board is 81845PE-RZ. only 3 slot for ram.

So i should slot my 1GB ram in the middle while the 512ram at the sides?

Bro jB, my msn is [email protected]

jus try rearranging the rams, or u hav to read the mb manuel for more accurate advice where to place it.

well.. if ur mb only allows 333mhz, n u r usng 400mhz rams. u r shortchanging the rams. may stil work but not efficient.

i rather hav nightmares den sweet dreams of u

I understand that my ram will be lowered to 333Mhz by the MB.

Anyway, the 1GB ram was bought during comex and they only left 400Mhz.

i went to gigabyte website to look for the manual, no mention of how to arrange the rams..

only got instruction on how to install the ram into the slots correctly.

In your BIOS settings, what is your CAS latency? Is it set to a number or is it "AUTO"?

There's so many sources around the web that state that mobos have the ability to step down the speed of the RAM, but only if the mobo supports that. Sorry if we can't give you a definite answer, but all of us here will try to pinpoint the problem.

Or you can give that dude with that "lobster snake" siggy a PM :D

see what's his take on your problem
