Hello bikers,

I live on Phuket and I am in love with the Honda DN01, riding a Silverwing600 ( with sidecar).

The DN01 has automatic , that´s what I need again.

http://www.motorcycledaily.com/01may08_2008honda_dn01_p1.htm

Where can I buy it?

In Germany the price is €12.000 , in Japan about €8.000 which would make up a good portion of the Thai import duty.

And Singapore ?

How would you go about it?

Cheers

yes, that´s mine = Rayong 111.

My luck was that here on Phuket is an ex-sidecar champion from Switzerland who put SilverWing from here and Sidecar from England together. A 3 wheeler requires a special expertise to make it run straight.

What made the real difference in acceleration is a J Costa variator. Neither the Honda nor the Malossi variators did it.

Reason I bought the bike: Because it is there...

Ok. Seriously... the reasons are:-

1) It has a low seat height... I'm only 1.58m and getting shorter thanks to gravity...

2) I prefer shaft final drive... clean and almost maintainence free...actually lazy to lube and adjust chains...

3) It's fully automatic with tiptronic style "gear" shift, impossible to stall the engine...less things to coordinate when in a tight situation... actually afraid of stalling the engine while making tight u-turns...(I have an embarassing situation last time, but that's another story...)

4) Styling, ok this is subjective and is a matter of taste... at least it looks different from other bikes...

First riding impressions:

After starting the engine, it idles around 1000~1100 rpm, even when cold. Moving off entails pressing the 'D' button on the right handlebar, just like in an automatic car. And this is what I like about this bike...there is no gearbox 'clunk' when you engage first gear as in a normal bike. This will greatly prolong the driveline, IMO. The bike can be ridden off without much warmup since throttle response when cold is very good, no hesitation or flat spots.

The bike is very easy to operate. Much easier to drive than an automatic car in terms of it's transmission. Just twist the throttle and go. If you are travelling at a low constant speed, the transmission will automatically select the highest 'gear' or lowest ratio numerically that suits the particular engine rpm.

Just like in some car with automatic transmission, there is a 'S' sport button if brisk acceleration is needed. It just simply allows the engine to rev higher for any particular 'gear' ratios. And if you want to change the 'gears' yourself, just select 'manual'. There is a + and - button on the left handlebar to shift up or down respectively. There are 6 preset 'gear' ratios. There is also safety mechanisms to prevent the selection of inapropriate 'gears', for e.g., at too low a speed you will not be able to select 5th or 6th 'gear' to prevent lugging the engine. And similarly, at too high a speed, you will not be able to select 1st or 2nd unless the speed reduces to a level that will not over rev the engine. One good thing about this + and - selection is, you can do rapid engine braking without much jerking if engine rpm and speed mismatch.

Got to go... more next time...

Ok. I try to answer your queries as short and sharp as possible...

I'm still on my first tank, so fuel consumption figures will have to take a while..

You can visit this website http://www.ibike.com.hk for some excellent detail and close up pictures... (actually I've yet to learn how to post pictures here...)

As for storage space under the seat...if you take away the toolkit and manual book, you may be able to store a pair of gloves there...there is practically no storage area in or around the bike... does carrying pillion considered storage space??...

Yes, I bought the one and only DN-01 from Looi's for 27K OTR.
