We got our new Suzuki DR200 yesterday (my choice since I'm a newbie 2B, my husband think it's a downgrade for him, he's a 2, bah!). Anyway our 10 year old love it too, being a pillion of course but the little man complaint that the right side is hot (I believe it's the engine below the ankle level). Having that bike as his mode of transportation to school too, we pity him and me also since I'm a pillion too.

Is there anything we can do to minimize the heat (which I believe cannot'lah) or any measures we could do/wear/guard/mod/add/etc and enjoy riding the DR200 without having to feel it's torturous? :help:

Hope you guys can help.

Thanks ~Arwen

i ride it too and would feel the heat ever so often. Maybe what you could do is to mod it in a way that i will not let the heat penetrate through, maybe adding plastic covers or something like that.

From the pic, the right footpeg is next to the muffler.

You would need to deflect the heat away by using a perforated metal/aluminium sheet (in red).

In addition, you can also richen the jetting, so that the exhaust will be cooler. The down side is lost of some power and slight increase in fuel consumption.

You can also re-locate the footpegs to a higher position so that the heat is be blocked by the side board. For kids, the higher position footpegs is ideal as they have shorter legs, but for adults, the knee may be bend too high.
