When i go there or any other shop i will stand next to the mechanic

and see everything he do....

As repect i will tell the mechanic that i will like to see because i can learn from him

I will ask everything he do is for wat....

1st i learn more about bike

2nd i will know whether he doing the right thing

even when change type i will follow him to see wat he do....

ask wat is the number on the type he going to change for me mean wat ?

if date too old i will ask again...

whether can don change to that anot

but normally at HKL very hard to find old type as i think they sell it too fast...

i will stand there see that the balance is "0R0L"

than see him pump the type pressure...

and follow him back to the bike make sure the chain and other thing is

fix back as wat it is to be....

i will demand for standard....

if they don do as wat is to be done i will go find ah keong

and ask him to do for me....

wow. That's quite time consuming. Have to take whole day leave just to get your bike fixed. I would love to leave my bike at the shop in the morning and go to work. Evening come back and collect. But that would mean having to find a very reliable bike shop and good mechanic which isn't easy to find. Got good and bad la I guess. Sigh.

I also quite scared go to shops cos all I know about bikes is from what I read or what people tell me (if I remember) or I ask my friends. Last time I first time go servicing also didn't know anything. Didn't understand why must service every month or so or change oil 3000km or 3 months and all that stuff, went service at 6 months when bike like wanna die already. In the end pay so much. Also dunno what they did. Another 6 months later my wheel gone and I changed it. 1 year only change engine oil once. Of course in that year when my 'P' plate over my bike also over. Sprocket, chain, gear, brakes all gone. Can scrap already. hahaha

When something funny happens to your bike, you should first check with friends, other bikers, and even the Internet... before you panic and go running to a bike shop. Of course, if you have a trusted mechanic, life is easier... but not everybody got this luck.

I once had a prob with my bike. Didn't run to mechanic straightaway. Checked with friends riding similar bike. Then I went to an Internet discussion group. Finally I checked with my regular mechanic (who's honest BTW, but I just wanted more feedback from elsewhere to verify), and they all said the same thing. I fixed the problem with the help of a forummer here.

So just fish around for information first before you run crying to an unknown bikeshop. If your problem is not serious, it won't hurt to do some research first. Otherwise, take the bus for a couple of days. Better than being chopped to bits.

Honestly, I feel that quite a number of local bike shops are just waiting to chop you to little pieces. Probably due to the high competition here. They're trying to earn every little penny they can get off their customers.

A lot of them believe in squeezing every customer that comes their way. Nevermind if that customer never ever comes back after a bad experience. No need for regular customers wat...

.... After all, there's always the next newbie 2B rider that just passed to chop.

Singapore culture? ;)

Yeah, it seems that they do not feel that there is a need for regular customers. Makes me wonder how these shops manage to survive for so long just chopping those still new and less knowledgeable.

Everyone starts as a newbie. We gain experience as we encounter problems and mistakes. So sometimes its really better if we can learn these mistakes from others and not make the same ones when it happens. Tat is what this forum is all about. Learning more about the bike you wish to purchase, making an informed decision.

I do not completely agree that we have to ensure that our bikes are ok before leaving the shop but in the land of the cut-throat, slip-shod workmanship, we do have to keep an occasional eye on the mechanic. Even for my regular mechanic, i'll look at him do my bike, not to ensure that he does a gd job but rather to learn more about my bike. At the same time i ask questions or doubts raised in the forum to get a clearer picture. In the case of a real screw up, I do expect the workshop to take responsibililty, after all, why am I paying for them to screw up?

If you think its ok for them to screw up, let me fix your bike at the void deck instead. I'll charge a lower price o_O , mabbe leave a screw or 2 in your crankcase, throw away your fuel tubes "by mistake". What? How can? C'mon, pple make mistakes........Sorry Sorry k? $Kaching!!!$ Easy money.

So for those that met with unpleasant experiences, dun blame yourself. We were all young once.......

Tat sounds pretty gd.... But with all second bikes, its a gamble to purchase whether its from private owner or with a bike shop. Whether or not the bike shop will honour the repairs for the bike in the case of anything spoiling is another thing altogether. ITs not always a clear cut thing, which is frustrating for new bike owners....

if u can discover any major problems within the first few days they will contact the previous owner and see wat can be done. my gearbox 1st day 6th gear cannot engage liao next day ah zh*n called the previous owner down and after some discussion the owner paid the price of a new gearbox for my bike.

Just curious here... you mentioned that you bought the bike from the shop. So shouldn't it be the responsibility of the shop to do whatever repair is needed on the bike? Why would the previous owner be implicated in any way? If the previous owner is liable for such repair costs, whether or not he knows about the issue before he sold the bike, den who would want to sell to a motorshop?

For all you know they may call you up to ask you to pay for a repair on the bike months after you sold the bike....... Meaning the warranty being borne by the previous owner, not the shop.... So y sell to shop? might as well sell to private owner, get more $$.

If you were doing a reloan on the bike i would agree that it was a gd way to settle the issue but if it was bought direct from the bike shop no matter how short a time after the previous owner has sold the bike to the shop then it sounds preposterous to me.
